Thorpe Park: General Discussion

Re: Thorpe Park

The latest on the fireworks, courtesy of "Ask Thorpe Park" over on TPM:

Thorpe Park said:
We're currently evolving our events line up with a focus on Sun SCREAM and Fright Nights at the moment. We should have some more news on Blow S*it Up in the next few months

Seems a little vague, but with late opening advertised on the website and the way they've worded the comment above it sounds like they should be running, just aren't fully organised yet.

You have to laugh at the complete lack of class shown by actually writing it as "Blow S*it up" rather than the "Blows it up" they usually go for.

Re: Thorpe Park

It just seems odd that from what we can gather Fireworks at Alton Towers have been commissioned and the major aspects organised at this point (*source towers staff) when Thorpe are dithering. Suggests to me they are looking at costs and will make a decision at the last minute. Either way can't see the show being that good if it is last minute.

That said last year they beat Scarefest for me so if they focus on that then they could do very well.

Re: Thorpe Park

A few minor updates from my visit to Thorpe on Thursday. The park was fairly busy but that was mainly school trips, but by mid afternoon the park was empty. It was a 6pm ride close. All rides were open apart from Slammer, which looked the same as ever really. Swarm went down a few times but not for too long (I also like its themed breakdown and opening audio!). However 2 seats were closed on both ride cars, both on the same side but different rows.

- The new remote control racing cars in the "showcase" have now been removed and the seats are back to normal. However as far as im aware there is no shows in the showcase.

- All signage for Saw Alive has now been removed including the entrance and information signs, and the ones near Saw. The only signs left are on the side of the boat.

- Videos still dont seem to be working on Swarm or Saw.

Re: Thorpe Park

The sign outside the ride says it will be back for Frightnights. I guess we will have to wait till then to see if it really does return. I can see it being totally removed next year. It just looks a bit of a mess having this fairly new attraction next to a major coaster closed.

Re: Thorpe Park

Just a general comment on Thorpe Park, is it just me or when you return to Alton Towers, are you envious of the flat ride selection? Maybe I just need to move 100 miles closer to Rush.

Re: Thorpe Park

I was really impressed with my trip to Thorpe Park in April - first time I've been even remotely impressed with the place for good couple of years!

One thing that is baffling me about the place though - female toilets. WHY have they taken all the mirrors out?? You can't have toilets for females without mirrors, especially at a theme park!!

It's a bit of a non-issue but I honestly agree. There aren't any mirrors to check your appearance at Thorpe Park, the most that you have is the mirrored glass behind the Guest Services desk or the varying degrees of water!

Re: Thorpe Park

Kaycee and Rowe - you're at Thorpe Park, both of you will look better than all the rest of the clientèle put together anyway. :p

It's one area Thorpe do far better than Alton on, Towers need to boost their flat-ride selection.

Probably to stop the delightful clientèle braking bits of and stabbing each other.

Re: Thorpe Park

Another thing that I never really noticed before but certainly noticed on Thursday was how diferent the staff and attitudes are compared to Alton Towers. There seems to be a much more relaxed approach at Thorpe that Towers. The staff seem to have much more of a laugh at Thrope and probably get away with more than they would at Towers.

For example the staff on Detanator were both laughing around all day, and kept teasing the guests by not dropping them for ages, or dropping them when the countdown wasnt complete. Also at one point they were playing games, giving a person a cup of water, then when it got to the top they told them to pass it all the way round. I could never see anything like that happening at Towers in the million years, but it seems the norm at Thorpe.

Finally there seems to be a really relaxed uniform policy at Thorpe, pretty much 90% of the staff had their own jeans or trousers on with trainers. The only proper uniform I saw was the navy blue shorts, which seems to suggest the staff dont get trousers?

Re: Thorpe Park

Thorpe really does have such a different atmosphere, it's just so chilled and relaxed, the staff are so casual, and I really like it! Also, one this I will say, despite how chilled and relaxed the staff were on Friday, they really were hammering the throughputs! I have never seen Colossus dispatch so damn fast, fantastic to see I must say! My love for Thorpe really does just keep growing and growing this year!

Also, a small merch update, the small Glass Block Skyline Things have been updated to contain The Swarm. I can't remember if this has been the case since March, but it's a nice touch to see them keeping it up to date :)

No different from the teasing on Ripsaw or the interaction on RMT, rides with some operator control tend to get a bit of interaction and play. As for the cup being passed around if Merlin see your post that will stop, it's not exactly H&S compliant :D

I don't like the idea of staff having a lax uniform code, it looks scruffy and doesn't seem professional. As for the throughputs i certainly like how they are pushing them now, they always needed to do that as well as Towers did.

I've always liked Thorpe though, the chavs spoil it but you cant have everything.

Re: Thorpe Park

I do think the uniform looks a mess, It seems to me the staff get a tshirt, fleece and some shorts. But if they want to wear trousers they just wear what they like. And trainers also look a mess espeically if they are bright white or another colour. Also the waterproof jackets they wear are just plain navy blue without any logos or anything, and with the staff wearing them they do just look like members of the public. Im not really a fan of their new uniform what so ever. It looks strange how the THORPEPARK.COM logo is in the bottom corner on the back, with a Twitter and Facebook logo. Then the tshirts dont really match that style with most staff wearing tshirts with the funny big head small body people that Thorpe have, then you add the rain coat and it all doesnt match. As for the rubbish collectors/cleaners, they just have a plain orange polo tshirt, which says "TP" on the side.

One slightly geeky thing however, the staff on the Swarm have florecent jackets that are really dirty looking with "Emergency Team" written on the back and other things on the front such as "TPLC12" and "150312"

Thorpe Park

^ Well the little markers that were put up earlier in the year at its planned location are still there. The only change seems to be that the grass over there is a lot longer!

Re: Thorpe Park

What about Slammer? Anyone know what's wrong with it?

Thorpe Park

Doesn't work :p

I think someone said that they are waiting for a specialist part that has a hefty lead time

Re: Thorpe Park

That ride has had nothing but issues since day one. I think about only 25% of the time I go there, it is operating. Is it the ride mechanical attributes which are at fault (ie design by S&s) or thorpe Park's mechanics? Seeing the downtime of the rest of the park, i do put a little bit of it at fault of the park's engineering team, however do S&S generally seem to produce rides too technical for their own good?
