BigAl's No Limits Coasters

That thing looks Awesome! Completely mental, but still bloody awesome! Cant wait to see the finished article, I'm keeping an eye on this.

:D
Maybe a good idea would be to make it backwards to attract more guests and money obviously? *cough* Thorpe *cough*

;)

This started out as a bit of fun after a few of us on the last couple of meets joked about how it'd be funny if RMC tackled Big Dipper as an alternative to it being ripped down (whenever that day comes). Now I'm quite interested in making this one of the most insane wooden coasters ever. :p

I present to you all...

...(another coaster that probably won't get finished)...

Details (so far):

  • 50 mph top speed
  • 82 degree first drop (would be steepest woodie on the planet ;) )
  • 4 planned inversions
  • ridiculous amounts of air also planned
  • will follow the exact route of the Big Dipper
  • RMC topper track woodie, not an I-Box hybrid

Just in case NL2 doesn't include a bobsled track...

It's a bit of a mess, but please remember that it is my first attempt! :p

So that was posted in August, and I've only just seen it... :p

Now finish it. Will it be imported into NL2?

If NL2 lets me, then yes it will be. And sorry for only just making that video public rather than being exclusive for my FB friends! :p

Wow! you knocked that up quick! Did you import it or use the new editor? Either way, its very accurate! Bing maps by any chance? ;)

Thanks! :)

The basic layout was made in NL1 a good while ago. I spent today fixing it in NL2 (banking, height of the track in various areas, smoothness of transitions (or roughness, in the case of Vampire :p ), etc...). I originally used Google Maps for the path of the coaster, and for the height and banking I used guesswork (based on my own memory and videos of it).

This is what I've been making in NL2 from scratch:

Not exactly much to go on yet, but I'm still thinking of a layout. It starts off like any Mega-Lite.

:)

Loving it! Nice colour scheme too, don't think I've seen those colours on any coaster before! I take it you're gonna put a vertical loop it that? Mack loops look ridiculously awesome!

Still cant work out how to get a lift hill straight and keep the station straight too in NL2. Its like a domino effect with the new editor. Just too much faffing for my liking! (Mind you I guess its just something to get used to!)

Reason I suggested Bing maps is that it gives you Ariel & birds eye perspectives so you can get the banking perfect etc.

:)

Looking at coasters in colours that aren't grey, black, grey or grey is one of the reasons I love this kind of software! ;)

Best thing to do is add a few nodes so the main straight bits aren't affected when you move other nodes to begin curves. Then once you think you've sorted the curved bits, take the pumps out automatically and continue.

And on occasion I use Bing. It really depends on which has better images for the particular thing I'm looking at.

:)

It's a bit of a cliche start, don't you think? And I reckon the banking into the first turn starts too late. Love the colours, though.

The Vampire recreation looks pretty good to me, although I've never ridden it, so won't really know the details to look out for.

It's not going to be spectacular as it's more of my first full test (it was originally going to be an Intamin Mega-Lite but then I decided to make it a Mack and go off after the first part of the ride), but I did think the same about the first part and I have been fixing it.

I'm thinking of a better layout for a Mack Megacoaster but I don't know whether to do another or go for a flying coaster (got a load of ideas for one)? So many choices. :p

I want to make a flying coaster so badly, I have so many layouts planned. When I get NL2, I'll probably just sit there not knowing what to do! I reckon if you've got some flying coasters already planned, you should try and do that first. I mean, the Megacoaster's nice and all, but its not too far removed from the Intamin coaster. I would concentrate on the Dive Machine, Flying coaster, 4d coaster and suspended coaster, if it was me.

:)

You need 4 nodes with the 2nd to last node having the strict option applied, you then use the surrounding nodes to manipulate it.

Never tried to perfect this element I came up with but with some spare time, decided to see what an inverting drop (i.e. naff dive loop off a lift) on a B&M Invert would look like in NL2:

Something like that, I guess?

Is the pre drop absolutely necessary? it would look more pleasing to the eye if it conformed to the lines of the swarms drop? nice bit of hangtime on the invert?
