CBeebies Land

Re: 2014: CBeebies Land

The Sun's list of higlights of the Cbeebies Land is interesting. At number 8 of 14 is CBeebies Photo Studio which states "Have your photo taken with your CBeebies favourite. The photos will be printed on site for purchase on the same day". It may just be a case of adding another "attraction" to avoid listing 13 but it is interesting that an upsell is deemed more important than the Pie-O-matic and Nina and the Neurons (amongst others).

Spotted at Towers today. The new ride cars for Get Set Go Treetop Adventure. TowersStreet are free to use this image as they wish. Any other site must credit me or bugger off.

No more squirrels. That's bad.
Why?

We knew the squirrels were going ever since the plans were announced.

Re: 2014: CBeebies Land

They look exactly as expected to me - just what the concept was like.

Re: 2014: CBeebies Land

I'm amazed you can all make such judgments from those pictures what with all the trees and branches in the foreground...

Seriously I'm sure they'll be more than just a yellow blob :)

Re: 2014: CBeebies Land

They are just going to be the weird yellow blobs pushing you along though, unfortunately. What are they even for? They aren't part of shows, are they? Seems to me like they ran out of ideas for that one.

The yellow blobs which push you along are the iconic CBeebies bugs/mascots!

Hardly what you'd base a ride on though. :S

Well, it kind of is when you consider that they are (and have been since the channel launched) the mascots and icons of CBeebies.

Re: 2014: CBeebies Land

But being icons doesn't make them suitable to base them for the theme of an attraction. They have no depth, character or personality, they're just blobs that pop up on screen in between programmes.

You can't base a story on them because they have no background and no proper purpose for something being used to theme a ride.

What are they? What are they for? Where are they from? How do you distinguish them in the same way that you can with proper characters?

How can children connect with them when they offer no substance?

For once I have to disagree with you, the kids will love it. Not being condescending Al, hope you know me better than that by now, but I think you need to have raised a spawn to realise how much these things can appeal to youngsters. It's bright, familiar, and off the TV.

I'm still not quite sold on all this yet, but already, mini-me (even though she's outgrown it by a while) cannot wait to get back to see it - because she has fond memories of the branding from her very young years.

And I'll tell you something else, yesterday on park, she SAVAGED the fences, deplores the laziness of Th13teens theme, spots a gap in a theme story like a hunter in the Serengeti - and bemoans the total lack of care for Nemesis station amongst other things. I guarantee you this came naturally to her lol!

However, put all those warm, friendly, memorable and bright characters in front of her, and it all went out the window.

This land is going to be a resounding success - whether it gets done to the standard it could, or maintained well etc time will tell - but the kiddies are going to go bat-poop crazy for it.

I'm not on about the entire project, just these yellow blobs which will replace the Squirrel Nutty theme. To me, this is the weakest aspect of the entire development because there's no real theme behind the attraction and is no better than what the Pleasure Beach did for Nick Land. Everything else will hopefully be much better.

:)

Sorry dude, I forgot to include the point I was trying to make about the blobs lol!

Basically, they are meant to have no substance as it were, and the sprogs will find it amusing and giggly to be pushed around by them. I'd like to say expect to see lots of lovely, giggling happy children on the ride, but I no amount of theme or fancy attractions would achieve that nowadays hahaha!

Personally I can imagine this area becoming an absolute crazy, sticky, vomit, wasp and tantrum infested hell hole lol!!!

Do they intend to supply counseling services for those enlisted to work in this area?

Re: 2014: CBeebies Land

I think they were looking for the theme to be something more generic since the ride covers a large area and overlaps other attractions.

I agree that blobs are hardly something to get excited about although the fact you can buy 'blob' cuddly toys and bags in Towers Trading now shows that they must have some significance and interest children.

I hear there's a myth that some adults actually like working with children!

You've brought her up well. ;)

Re: 2014: CBeebies Land

They had to use the blobs for something, they are somewhat iconic when it comes to CBeebies.

Anyway, I had a little peek over the fence into CBeebies Land today and you know what, it's actually looking rather nice! It's nowhere near finished but everything is looking lovely and fresh. I really like the Postman Pat ride area. There's lots of new planting around the place too. I am more hopeful for this now and am genuinely looking forward to seeing the finish product (however I still think sunglasses will be needed with all the bright colours :p ).

:)

Re: 2014: CBeebies Land

I'm in the pro-blob camp as well. Easily the most inoffensive 'character' that's going to be present in this area for me!

The theme is very slowly growing on me, but the colour scheme isn't. Keep having nightmares of the entire area being in the style of Rumba :/ :
