Doctor Who

I know most people were expecting it to be later as filming for the series won't actually be completed until September! But they can just about squeeze post-production in to allow a late summer start. :D

If you're watching the world cup tonight there is rumoured to be a Doctor Who trailer shown! Two trailers have been made, one at 20 seconds and the other at 60 seconds. Both trailers show most footage from episode 1-6 as these are the only episodes that have currently been finalised from post-production. Might be a chance of other scenes from episodes shown too. Note that a trailer has not been confirmed to air tonight, but it looks likely.

If you have caught news the past few weeks. A week or two ago there was a script leak from BBC, with the finalised scripts for episodes 1-5 leaked online. To make things worse, today the first full episode was leaked online, although the episode is in black and white, with temporary soundtracks and no finalised CGI. Episode two is said to have been leaked too.

If any of you have not been in the loop the past few weeks there have been two teasers aired, which can be seen here:

Some spoilers:
From what I've heard Capaldi will be a "very dark" Doctor and some of his personality traits hark back to classic Doctors. He has his funny moments and you do see a bit of Smith and Tennant in him at some points. Although on the whole he is dark and said to be pretty morbid. The BBC are taking a bit of a risk here as twelve will be a complete contrast to what we have seen with Tennant and Smith the past few years.

If you've watched the Dalek teaser above and think you can hear Davros in that video? Sorry, he's not coming back. Nor is The Master, apparently.

Clara is rumoured to be leaving at the end of this series, although there are contrasting rumours that there will be a 10th anniversary special next year that centres around Clara and her mum.

Not sure if I mentioned this on a previous page either, this series will have 12 episodes (rather than the 13 we have had in every series since 2005). There will be a new title sequence for series eight. The first episode titled "Deep Breath" will be one hour and twenty minutes long, other episodes look set to be around 50 minutes in length. There will be a Christmas special too, which will be filming around the end of August/start of September.

I got a copy of the leaked first episode, watched the first 30 seconds of it, and I turned it off. It's a very rough cut, I mean extremely rough. The CGI is very basic, there's watermarks everywhere, the sound mix is terrible. So yeah, I've decided to save it for the 23rd of August!

:)

Yep, it's definitely a very rough draft! Best for anyone to wait until the 23rd of August.

The first series eight trailer is confirmed to air during half-time on tonight's World Cup final on BBC One, around 8:45pm - 9pm.

I've had a very quick glance at the leaked scripts that found their way onto the internet earlier this week, thankfully not enough of a glance to reveal too much. From reading the first few scenes of Deep Breath, Capaldi is going to portray an excellent and much darker doctor than we've seen in quite a lengthy period of time. I did unfortunately come across one scene in the first episode however that has already left me banging my head against the wall.

If you don't mind spoilers then read the scripts. For me I don't think reading the scripts impacts on seeing the live performances by the cast.

If you want to be surprised then avoid. The scripts give away little bits of this years story arc and new characters. Particularly the final pages of the scripts are the ones to avoid, especially the first episode.

I haven't watched Doctor Who in a long time, but I saw the trailer last night, and I was pretty impressed with it. I think Peter Capaldi's going to do a great job as the Doctor, and I might actually end up watching the show again because of him!

I'd love to read the scripts if I could find them anywhere! Having watched the trailer last night, I'm really excited about the new series.

They were left on a web server after being sent to BBC’s new Latin American headquarters for translation. Anyone could actually access the server, and thus the scripts and first episode were easily available.

Personally don't know why anyone would want to read them when you'd just be getting a half baked experience and lessen your enjoyment of the actual episode when it airs. That goes for the leaked rough cut as well.

Sure you could argue I'm guilty of the same thing by finding out everything about a new attraction before it opens but in that case I'll never know what it actually feels like until I am there, with a TV program or film it is reliant on its story, which you spoil by knowing it in advance.

I disagree to a certain extent. In the same way you never know what a ride feels like, you never know what an episode will 'feel' like when watching it. A script and the live performance can be very different.

I suppose with familiar characters likes Clara you can imagine how she would say things, although with The Doctor's lines Capaldi will have a different way of performing those compared to Matt Smith, or David Tennant, or the other 9 doctors.

It depends really on how much you want to be spoiled. The main episode plot doesn't really damage the rest of the series, as most episodes are standalone. Reading story arcs though can spoil a lot.

It's interesting because I've seen big debates on other forums about whether reading a script ruins to excitement and mystery of an episode. As always at the end of the day it's down to a matter of personal opinion.

I'd say just from reading the first script and catching a glimpse at the episode hasn't spoilt anything. A script is an emotionless and blank canvas for how the actors decorate the episode, and the transition from Capaldi's dialogue to on screen makes it much more lively and animated. I think it's therefore safe to say that whilst you ruin the plot for yourself, the episode is still a treat when you watch it. I only watched five minutes so thankfully there's still a lot to be delivered.

What I liked the most isn't that this episode is for Capaldi to be introduced as the Doctor to the audience as opposed to how Matt Smith's first episode felt, but it feels more tailored for Capaldi's Doctor to discover who he is, and he's still visibly shaken yet somewhat adjusted to the experience by the end of the episode. I've grown to like him more in the five minutes of screen time I've seen and the first script than I did overall of Matt's entire run as the Doctor.

The title sequence for series 8 has been leaked, it was recorded at the screening in Cardiff, I think. A friend sent me it earlier on a Facebook message, but I can't find it anywhere online

It's very different compared to what we've had since 2005, with a quite a different score which made me instantly think of the classic era.

It is very much based on this fan made intro which was made last September, but the official one has some obvious changes. But the similarities are plain to see.
