You know what, I really don't get all this hate for air. :/ I mean, obviously it isn't up there with Nemesis, but personally, I think it is a great ride and a really fun experience.

When you've ridden pretty much any other B&M flyer in the world, you'll realise why many enthusiasts rank it so low. It's just slow and forceless, which I know is basically how it was designed to be, but it's just not a standout ride in any way for any reason.

It's very clever and I like the idea it's just that riding position makes me feel rough.

I don't understand why it should be compared to other B&M flyers when this poll is comparing the coasters within Alton Towers. It's a different league from RMT, Sonic Spinball, Thirteen and possibly Rita, when several have placed these coasters above it.

My ranking would be:

1. Nemesis
2. Oblivion
3. The Smiler
4. Air
5. Thirteen
6. Sonic Spinball
7. Rita
8. RMT

Air is far better than the awful Superman clones. It's not up there with Manta (and Tatsu but I've not ridden that so can't comment) but that's not what it's trying to be. Air does what it tries to do pretty much perfectly, I never understand the stick it gets.

:)

Hmm, I guess i'll have to ride more flying coasters! :p

I'm not a very experienced enthusiast unfortunately, the only 3 parks I have ever been to (from what I can remember) are Lightwater Valley, Alton Towers and Disneyland Paris! Yeah, i'm a noob. Anyway, I still love air, and as it is the first of it's type, with the height restrictions and everything, I still think it is great. And IMO, there is more to a Roller Coaster than speed and force.

And it's still better than Rita.

Sorry, TheMan!

I'm not an experience enthusiast either, but Air still ranks low for me. On my combined rankings it rates 5 below TH13TEEN, 9 below Sonic, 11 below RMT, 12 below Rita, 15 below Oblivion, 16 below The Smiler and 18 below Nemesis.

Anyway, slightly off topic :)

I judged this poll by thinking which coasters I could do without riding on a visit.

1. The Smiler. Wouldn't miss. (Barring breakdowns)
2. Nemesis - Wouldn't miss. (Barring breakdowns)

**big gap**
(Too right, Sam)
=3. Rita - would only miss if it had a 30+ minute que, although would still feel slightly peeved.
=3. Oblivion - would only miss if it had 30+ minute que
5. Th13teen - would miss if it was 20+ minute que
6. Sonic - would miss if it was 10+ minute que (and hate the que-line)
7. Air - does nothing for me, miss on 75% of my visits, if the que is past the fastrack merge point, I don't even contemplate.
8. RMT - only go on if I've had a drink tbh

Out of the main ones:

The Smiler
Nemesis
Air/Oblivion joint 3rd
13
Rita

For me it's the smiler in first place because of its crazy, intense layout and the creativity of the ride in such a small space, Nemesis just misses out because of the length of the ride and the theming needs re painting along with the fact it's unlikely the red dye will return.

Smiler bruises!

Weirdly, they never hurt me. I think I just bruise easily. I'd go on The Smiler again and again, which I can't do with rides that hurt me (e.g. Saw, Colossus).

Tricky one for me. First rode The Smiler in October last year and I said back then that Nemesis remained the best.

However this year after riding it a few more times, it has definitely overtaken however the gap is very, very thin. The Smiler is such a good, fun coaster. But the intensity on Nemesis is second to none.

1. The Smiler (just)
2. Nemesis
3. Oblivion
4. TH13TEEN
5. Sonic Spinball
6. Air
7. Rita
8. RMT

No ride on park beats Nemesis, late at night, end of season, Scarefest, on the front. At that time for me, Nemesis completely obliterates The Smiler. That's the time I think she pushes you to the edge of human body tolerance lol!

Would it be controversial to say I like Spinball equal to Smiler, they are very different experiences and I like them both for different reasons. Same with Oblivion & Rita they are very different experiances.

Overall would be
1. Nemesis
2. Smiler
=. Spinball
4. Air
=. Oblivion
6. Thirteen
7. Rita

1. Oblivion
2. Nemesis
3. Smiler
4. Th13teen
5. Mine Train
6. Air
7. Rita
8. Spinball

1. Oblivion
2. Nemesis
3. The Smiler
4. Air
5. TH13TEEN
6. Spinball
7. Rita
8. RMT

It was actually hard to rank some of these to be honest. Everything from TH13TEEN down could easily switch around depending on when I last rode them.

1. Nemesis
2. Oblivion
3. Thirteen
4. RMT
5. Sonic spinball
6. Rita
7. Air
8. The smiler
