Thorpe Park: General Discussion

Anything makes the entrance a bit better in my opinion and the graphics either side should help too.

Not a fan of it so much when it has 'Marbella Sessions' onscreen though :p

I'm actually thinking that both ABL and the new screen just make the whole park go from theme park to more amusement park.

Bright colours is something we dont associate with Merlin, and they have shown why they dont use them because they dont have a clue how to co-ordinate it around other colours.

Overall - Dreadful

I actually think that looks quite good - bright and fresh.

Oh my god, somebody stab me, I said something positive about ABL.

It looks horrendous.

At least before it had theming details.

unlike Cbeebies land, this has not surprised me, it is possibly the worst "retheme" Merlin have done! ah well, I guess it could've been worse…they could've added some random shipping containers :p

I think the screen and boards plonked up at the entrance look awful and scream of rushed idea to try and make it better. They don't look like they belong their at all. Hopefully it's just a temporary fix until they do some proper work on the entrance to make it all fresh, cohesive and appealing.

:)

The entrance to ABL itself doesn't look too bad.

The rest just looks like utter crap though.

I'm glad angry birds land has opened just in time for the angry birds fad to run out of steam.

Just in time? The fad ran out at least a year ago!

I'm surprised Thorpe didnt try and jump on the minecraft bandwagon, as much as I dislike the game or community, they would have made a fortune if got the ip.

Well, it's an improvement. I recon it's a temporary fix until the hotel opens. When they can maybe knock the current plaza down and replace it with one that matches the theme of the hotel.

Slap down some new, tiled flooring with a PERMANENT queue for the ticket booths, a new building for the turnstiles and maybe a fountain or two.

Tbh, they could do pretty much anything and it'd be better than the current entrance. :)

I'm on my own here but I don't think Angry Birds Land looks all that bad. Pretty much everything in the plans came to be reality! The dodgems look awful but on the whole the 'theme' itself hasn't had any cut corners.

I still don't think this will bring in many more guests though. They need to work on something more substantial for that to happen.

That's probably because the only way to cut corners with this would be to actually do nothing, there's that little that could have been cut! ;)

I don't see why they bothered re theming detonator, all there is is a new sign and a bird. I would have liked it if the put the bird on top and made its mouth move and squawk as it drops. It was a lazy job and it would of being better if they had left detonator alone and had a little shot and drop in the middle of angry birds land themed as a catapult with a black bird on top, smaller than detonator but bigger than something like trauma tower at lightwater valley. Something in the 50 to 85 foot height range would look less thrilling than detonator and would mean families could go on.some of the GP have actually complained about the lack of theming listening to them when walking around so it must be bad if everybody notices

:D :D :D ;D

That comment's had me really "lol"ing. It's true, you need something to cut first ;D

And that screen and boards put up outside the entrance. It has got SO bad I am now genuinely sat here laughing at them, frustration has made way for total disbelief and an inability to do anything but actually physically laugh at it.

Seriously, has anyone got any pictures of anything recently added to any theme park in the UK that looks worse than a giant TV on some boards in from the of entrance building? And those vinyls on the eatery are so bad.

It's like someone gave a young kid a million quid and said- go decorate your room! AWESOME!! BIGGEST TV EVER AND SOME CRAZY STICKERS AND BUMPER CARS YAY!

Clearly, the people who designed the clean, if not a little dull, website and new branding are NOT the same who ordered the giant TV and angry birds land hahahahahahahahahahaha!

He must thinking "MATE, STAAAAAAAAAAHP, WE'RE TRYING TO BE CLASSY!!!"

"Oh, so shall I take this subwoofer back then?"

THORPE PARK car modding next:

They're the new wheel design for The Smiler dude ;D

It's all so bad it's actually funny.

The shark hotel, Angry Birds land and that ridiculous LED board....not an ounce of quality or creativity between them.

How anyone can praise that display board is beyond me - it really is a complete eyesore and ruins the entrance even further (I never thought it could get any worse).

Only a real fanboy could be excited by any of this.

The latest rumour about 2015 from Screamscape:

Rumor - (5/28/14) Consider this a really “WILD” rumor, but the latest whisper to come my way indicates that Merlin’s next big ride may be themed to Dr. Who. I’m not sure if that would work in theme park form myself... but just consider it something to think about.

It wouldn't surprise me if Merlin did try and get Dr Who as an IP for their parks, especially if they have a good relationship with the BBC after CBeebies Land.

:)

There has been rumour and discussion about this for Towers for ages. Not sure if Thorpe has the space to do a proper indoor dark ride though so it might come off as a bit small? and I don't think Dr who would work as anything except a dark ride or experience. It could be a sort of Dungeons style guided experience ending in a ride, or similar to Poisidons Fury at IoA or just a Spiderman style dark ride.
