Pre Towers Routine

Sports stars, actors and other such people always have a routine before they go onto the field, or before they tread the boards. But is there any pre visit to AT routines. Things you always do on the way there. We always discuss what people do when they arrive but nothing for on the way to the place. It could be the smallest thing. It could be huge. All I need to know is what do you always do on the way there?

I usually watch a load of AT videos on youtube a day or 2 before I go!

Swear at the Uttoxbox for being awful
Shout at First if they are late
Swear at the Uttoxbox for being awful
Put AT music on during the ride on the BOX
Swear at the Uttoxbox for being awful
Actually be semi-organised for once
Swear at the Uttoxbox for being awful

Think that's about it. Oh and swear at the Uttoxbox for being awful

Make sure I've got my bag full of relevant stuff, coat, camera, phone etc. Check my wallet for my annual pass.

Inwardly accept that the prior night's sleep is going to be severely hindered. :p

Have an inner dialogue about whether the day is going to be worth getting up *this* early.

Always hoping that it's not going to rain on the day, then when it does say it's gonna rain, tell myself that I'm used to theme parks in the rain and it'll be completely fine! [/british]

Because we only go annually I don't normally keep up to date with AT goings on ( I have only recently found this forum which I'm sure I'll carry on dropping in on) but 6 weeks or so before I read all about the resort everywhere on the net. A month before we go I check the height of my children and tell them their target growth;) 10 days before we I go I start to check the weather forecasts obsessively. When the roadsign says Alton Towers 6 miles I start to scan the horizon for a hint of the place and never see one. This is , of course, to the resorts credit.

The night before
  • Check Tickets are in my wallet.
  • get my coaster trousers out, fill with my personal carry stuff and zip up pockets.
  • Get the food sorted in to 2 bag, fridge stuff and non fridge stuff.
  • Put a bag filled with a full set of spare clothes for my and the daughter into the boot of the car.
  • Make sure my Tab3 car charger is in the car along with the window mount to use Tab3 as a sat nav.
  • Put waterproofs into the bottom of my backpack
  • Put Daughters Letter and Photo ID into backpack
  • Place my clothes for the next day on my seat, checking wallet for tickets and deciding i dont need my small torch on my belt and remove it. as I do it.
  • chuck my small belt mounted torch into my backpack, just in case.
The morning of the towers trip
  • Fall out of bed, mutter at time and wanting to be on site for 9am, as i am getting dressed.
  • Check my personal carry (minus torch) is in the trousers, and check wallet for tickets
  • Shout Alton Towers at my daughter, and get out of the way of her diving for the bathroom.
  • Stand by bathroom door with daughters meds and drink ( she downs them in one before getting back to her bedroom)
  • put the fridge stuff and non fridge stuff bags of food into my backpack whist waiting for toast to pop
  • Try to get a cup of coffee and plate of toast from the kitchen to the front room unharmed by daughter bouncing into the kitchen repeating "we going to alton towers"
  • Have breakfast, hoping daughter meds start working before we get in the car.
  • Drive to alton towers following route I programmed into my tab3
  • La In the Hall of the Mountain King as we drive though the entrance to the AT site.

Well I usually stay the night before in the hotel, so my pre-pre Alton routine is to pack my stuff, most importantly my "theme park coat" which is a lightweight, foldaway, waterproof jacket with zip pockets (very important), and of course make sure I have my Annual Pass, money, and some basic med's such as paracetamol, hay fever stuff etc!

Driving up I usually have some Alton music playing. On the morning of the visit, I wake up, half dead because it usually is a late night in the hotel of drinking, stumble down for breakfast wondering why in the world I am up so early, stumble back to the room feeling a bit more with it, get my stuff together, zip everything I need into my theme park jacket pockets, and off I go.

Oh, and check the weather report, very important!

You guys put me to shame with the planning and organisation.

My trips tend to be if I wake up early at the weekend, its not peeing down and I have no plans, I wake up my son (and occasionally the Mrs, if I dare), get ready in 10 minutes and walk out of the door grabbing wallet, phone & my Smiler bag (assuming the MAP's are in there - which hasn't always been the case) then shoot up the A14 & M1 arriving at towers 1 hours 10 mins later.

By this point, me and my son have fallen out due to; a) Me driving 'too fast' b) Me playing all AT audio for a large percentage of the journey c) Making him dance to the Ketanga Kanyon theme d)Waking him up in the first place

Then we head to oblivion for ERT - all is forgiven and we have a great day.

Wardley, he needs to learn some AT etiquette! How can he NOT enjoy listening to all AT audio, and dancing to KC?!

Firstly, you never need a jacket as you always go to the spa if it's raining.

Secondly. We don't drink up there!

My routine is leaving home at 4:30am, stopping at Watford gap on the way up the M1 then singing the JCB song as I go past the headquarters and then the Emmerdale theme when it gets more rural....boring but that's about it!!

Is 'wake up and go to Towers' an acceptable pre-Towers routine haha?

My actual routine is very different since I usually travel up the evening before a trip as I live so damn far away :(

Wimp! Get up at 6 and drive like the rest of us east coasters do/did!
