Minecraft - Alton Towers (1:1 Scale Recreation)

Me (Coasterfan312) and 2 friends (Aaruse and Henrie_99) are currently working on a remake of the Alton Towers park in Minecraft, exactly to scale (1 block = 1 metre, and at the same angle relative to the park's position on Earth). As of this first post, we've completed X-Sector, Duel (Gloomy Woods), Towers Street, Sonic Spinball (Adventure Land), about half of the Dark Forest, a fair bit of Hex, a fair bit of The Towers, most of Mutiny Bay, most of the entrance area and the front of Cbeebies Land.

You don't have to, of course, but if you have Minecraft and want to see it progress in person for yourself, feel free to hop on: imagineeringmc.mcph.co:25976 (as well as Alton Towers, we've also got Disneyland Park, a custom Disney Resort, and a load of random real and custom rides).

I'll post new updates on this thread every so often (assuming I don't forget

Here are some pictures and videos of what we've got so far:

I'm afraid I've never seen the point of trying to recreate coasters in Minecraft. (I'm sure the game's limitations don't need to be pointed out).
But I can admire the effort that went in to it.

Yeah, quite a few people have that opinion, but Minecraft is one of the only sandbox games/editors that can be used by a large range of people, and with the right mods/plugins, it allows fairly realistic coasters to be made which anyone can them ride and walk around. It's actually quite surprising how similar it feels to real life when you're walking around a completed theme park. I mean, it's clearly not NoLimits standard (closer to RCT3, except less limited), but you get the point.

PS. If you know what you're doing and have had plenty of experience, like myself and the other 2 working on it, Minecraft has hardly any limitations at all. The only 2 I can think of are (when building to scale):
- There's sometimes parts where everything is compacted together, so it's hard to get in all detail (e.g. TH13TEEN's Tesla Coil room.
- It's hard to make track go upwards at certain angles due to how track works.

In fairness, Rita's launch does feel like the track isn't straight...

As ^^, I can appreciate the effort put into this, although this...

... I disagree with.

Praise where its due though, bravo on the hard work so far, the scale, skill and devotion is impressive.

I look forward to the gardens ;)

So far all I feel like all I'm getting is insults covered up by a minor praise of effort. Aaruse (builder) said TowersStreet had some good Minecrafters...

The Rita launch is straight, it's just out of blocks at the real angle. As an example: draw a line at a random angle with the pencil tool on a program like Paint and zoom in a fair bit. You'll see a line of pixels similar to Rita's straight.

For anyone looking at this, please only post if you play Minecraft, have something useful and/or nice to say, e.t.c. Receiving this negative feedback from people who don't care for Minecraft, as you can probably tell, isn't exactly enlightening.

This is brilliant! 2 of my favourite things combined. I love minecraft, and I can tell you now that the hard work going into this must be incredible. ;) I especially love how you did The Smiler, and the whole thing is surprisingly accurate.

I assume you used worldedit?

Wahay, happiness restored :p

And yes.

Firstly, I'm sorry you feel I was insulting you. Although the fact I think minecraft can't produce 'fairly realistic' coasters is in no way aimed at you, is it?

When I said I look forward to the gardens, that was genuine.

Or maybe you only accept positive feedback? ;)

How much work have you put in. This is brilliant compared to my terrible recreations on minecraft. I managed to perfect th13teens drop section though!

Uh, it's hard to say accurately, but we've been working on it for about a month, averaging at about 4 or 5 hours a day.

Also, I perfected a TH13TEEN style drop too ;) (in a custom ride highly inspired by TH13TEEN - skip to 1:20 for the drop part):

Update #01 - Cloud Cuckoo Land:

As well as some area work, the CCL skyride station and the Burger Kitchen façade, here are the main two new additions:

Charlie And The Chocolate Factory façade completed:

Note: We're taking a break from Alton Towers to do work on another small-ish project. Updates here obviously won't occur until we go back to AT.

Work has resumed on AT (in a kind of on-off fashion - I haven't been doing much on it recently but Aaruse has).

Doing good! If I were you I would leave forbidden valley till last as I don't think there is a way to make rideable inverts, but I don't play that much. I really hope you can make a rideable Nemesis though, it would be amazing!

Oh, just you wait ;) Also, FV has been the most wanted area, so I doubt we'd be able to leave it that long :p

Hi, webb1234 here, amazingly done in minecraft, coasterfan and friends have put so much hard work into this and the amount of time they've put into this is amazing, if you guys are all going to hate then don't bother posting something or just say I think it could have been done a little bit better but as far as I'm concerned this is one of the best servers in the world and how they can create a theme park like this is amazing. [+] its in minecraft. they're controlling speed on rides like they're real; they're doing so many things to make it real and I've tried doing this sort of thing many times but I've failed because you have to be smart enough and not giving up to take on a project like this which is just what coasterfan and his mini-team did!

So what you're essentially saying is that genuine feedback/opinions/critiques are only permitted if positive, and that all you're seeking is praise? Sounds a bit daft to me when any normal human being would take negative feedback and improve on it rather than sulking.

I don't think this platform really works for recreating theme parks... nothing looks anything like what it's supposed to look like except the towers.
