Blackpool Pleasure Beach: General Discussion

I'd argue that Pleasure Beach's customer service side of things has been better than Towers since the mid 00s. Heck, I got an unexpectedly quick response from them regarding my lost wallet in September 2012, to which they had it back to me within the week with all contents including money to the exact penny intact. The staff in charge of any customer role always seem sincere in wanting guests to have an enjoyable day. On the other hand, the majority of their grim ride ops could learn a trick or two from the vastly superior and more vibrant counterparts at Towers.

Overall, their customer service is a lot better this year IMO. I'd say it's better than at AT now, as all you get there is fake smiles and free fastrack, whereas at BPB they tend to actually do something about issues.

I mean the general service, the friendliness of ride ops and the atmosphere in park and on stations. AT and Chessington staff chat a
Little and smile. whereas PBB they only seem to do the minimum to despatch the ride, no smiles or friendliness.

The pleasure beach is just a special place but since that added the pay one price system it has not been something ive gone out of way to attend.

Its biggest problem is that its in blackpool. Or Castleford on sea as its known here in Castleford.

On the 16th of August we will be pushing your limits and taking riding to the XTREME.

Have you ever buzzed off of a ride so much so that you've wanted to go right back round again, overwhelmed by a sense of euphoria that you wish would just last forever.

At times there can be nothing worse than having to rejoin the back of the queue.

Well as we all know actions speak louder than words. That said, we are daring you to take on a double dose of adrenaline as we send 5 select rides round TWICE from 9 until 10pm.

That's right, we're powering up our thrill levels and shocking your senses into an hour of two time riding. A pit stop safety check after your first round of fun, will then send you racing right back round again.

For more information check out our blog: http://www.blackpoolpleasurebeach.com/xtreme/

Pretty cool idea, but it only really works if they try and get the selected rides running on a higher throughput than normal.

The patchwork approach to H&S in the UK is laughable - in one park a practice (stay-in-seat re-ride) is banned whereas another park have based a special event around it.

It does state there is a 'pit stop safety check after your first run' though - so they will be stopping the train, making sure everything is okay with everyone and then sending it again...

Not quite a continuous double circuit :p

On the last 10pm close all 5 of these rides were down to 1 train by 9pm, and all except PMBO were walk-on (and running running half empty well before 10pm). The weather had a lot to do with that though, I suspect that had it been a hot day the park might have remained busy until close and reducing throughput by 50% might have been problematic. Still, this will be a rare opportunity to ride between offload and onload on Nash and Dipper.

I agree, but what I find more shocking is that in the opening wide shot, two trains are quite clearly running on the same block section.
P
Have you seen the final shot on PB's TV advert? Both PMBO and Big Dipper have some very interesting dispatch speeds :)

you find them shocking, least there's a fair bit of distance between them compared to this look at infusions on the drop and one on the sidewinder, it goes straight into after the drop

So this video just cropped up on youtube and well.....

Oh wow! I don't know what to say. (Keep in mind, thy pre-booked and paid for tickets in advance!)

That's just standard PB on a busy day. One of the many reasons why it's nowhere near the best park in the country.

In their defence, I have queued somewhere approaching that in the past and was pleasantly surprised to find it was more of a slow walk, given that the park had opened literally every possible counter inside the Casino.

I did 10 consecutive rides of Mouse (Off, run-round and up the queue). Now if that was offered as 10 laps..............

Just been reading all the posts on here as I will be visiting blackpool pleasure beach for the 1st time in several years in October. I will be introducing my 7 year old to my favorite ride growing up, the grand national. Shame to see the log flume has gone but hopefully the grand national will be as good as I remember it. Been to Alton towers recently but it lacks a proper rollercoaster in my opinion which is where blackpool has the edge for me.

Welcome to the forum, I agree Blackpool has more traditional rides which I also like, and I would have agreed with it lacking a proper rollercoaster also until they built The Smiler.

Errr, Nemesis?

I've had this discussion before, a proper rollercoaster is a sit down in a car kinda thing, Nemesis is very short and intense and an invert. One of the best roller coasters ever built, but it isn't traditional which I think @shakey is getting at

If you're running on that basis I presume 13 is the closest to what you want

Yes I did mean a traditional style rollercoaster and 13 at Alton towers would be the closest to a traditional coaster they have. Shame about the daft drop and backwards bit.

Alton do have the space for a traditional coaster which could start in one part of the park and finish in another (if they can get planning permission)

But without acquiring extra land I can't see blackpool adding another coaster any time soon unless they lose a woody which I hope they don't decide to do.

Wouldn't it be possible to have a station for a coaster in the area in between Infusion and the Big One's lift hill and then have a lift or launch out of that area and wrapping around other coasters? Or would it not be possible because of where to place supports etc?

Easily the best part of the ride.

I think BigAl made a No Limits coaster that was something like this. I can't remember if it was located there, though.

Nope, @BigAl's had the station on the Tom Sawyer bridge/Grand Prix station area. I reckon a station could easily fit in that massive empty space behind Infusion though, and there would be space for a turnaround for it to go elsewhere. The only problem would obviously be PMBO's supports which would have to be amended for the new coaster, although that probably wouldn't be a big issue.
