How Busy?

Hi all, hoping this is the right place to post?!

We're planning a Scarefest trip this year and I'm aware (having witnessed it first hand a few years back) that one of the weekends is typically a traveller gathering day/weekend.

I don't mean to stereotype but the time we were there the day was utterly unbearable due to constant anti-social behaviour (which Alton acknowledged, giving us a full refund!) and we will be looking to avoid this on this occasion.

Any ideas which date(s) this typically is?

Hi all. I've been planning a trip for a few weeks now. We were originally going to be visiting 14th-16th Oct, but our arrangements have changed and we now can't make it until 21st-23rd. We have Merlin cards so tickets are no problem... Although, I completely forgot about scarefest! I'm not bothered by scary mazes and such (wuss) but I'm wondering whether the park is very busy during the day or whether it's just seems busier towards the later afternoon? I just want to go for the rides, but don't enjoy parks when they're really busy :( I am yet to go on the smiler, so really looking forward to that.

Also, do any of you know whether they still sell the Alton Towers monopoly game in the store?? Really want one :p

Thanks!

As you're going during the week, it is likely that it will get more busy in the late afternoon. The mazes tend to be more popular at night, so go for when they first open. This is usually around 1:00PM.

With regards to AT Monopoly, they are indeed still in the shops, yet they are extortionately expensive at £32.00 a pop! I would spend your money on something else if I were you!

It is usually the first Sunday of Scarefest, so that will be Sunday 19th October.

It shouldn't be too busy with it being a weekday and if you are there for three days (?) then you should have plenty of time to do it all. I would suggest you get there for park opening (no ERT during scarefest) so gates open at 9.30/45 I think and rides 10am. As it will be much quieter in the morning that later in the day. Certainl rides are always busier at night, especially Smiler and TH13TEEN so get these done early to make sure you get on them. Of course they are also worth doing in the dark if you have chance. Rides like Hex, Duel, Ice Age should be quieter during the evening.

Its also worth remembering that some rides close during the dark such as Flume, Skyride and in the past riverbank and squirrel nutty (not sure if this will be same with CBeebies Land).

And yes they still sell monopoly.

Riverbank has permanent lighting now so is open it seems (only Get Set Go closes in dusk in Cbeebies - so 3 attractions close at dusk, or 4 if you include the gardens!)

Having been chatting with Towers on twitter this afternoon, they have confirmed that everything in CBeebies Land will remain opening until park close, bar Get Set Go, which closes at dusk. I assume this is because of the evacuation procedure, not dissimilar to Skyride.

Towers have also confirmed that the park gates open at 9:45AM during the ScareFest and Fireworks period, although I would guess that they will actually open at around 9:30, depending on how many people are waiting at the plaza.

What will this coming Friday be like (17th)? We have a teacher training day, and I've been invited to Towers for some unknown reason! I imagine it'll be pretty dead.

How busy do you all think it will be on Monday (October 27th)? It's half term holidays, I realise, but will it be teeming with folk?

What's the towers like this week (say Thursday)? I imagine it'll be fairly quiet? Plus they say they're only open til 4 this week. Will they be running all rides?

All rides should be running as normal, and as I've said before, I expect it will be dead. Most people will visit for either Scarefest, Fireworks, or both, and with it being a school day and half term being last week...

:)

Based on today ride times website it was 0-20min queues. The Smiler was 10mins at one point.

I imagine Monday would be the busiest out of Mon-Thurs this week too.

Typically about 3,000 to 4,000 people visit per day during these in between days. Always worth going.

I think this Saturday is going to be chaos!
Busiest day of the season I assume, hence why I'm not visiting despite being asked if I wanted to.

Plus I have other more important goings-on in the evening when the fireworks would be on.

July 17th shouldn't be too busy because it is the last day of the academic year for the counties in and around Alton Towers. School trips will mostly have finished and the peak periods of the summer holidays don't impact until the second half of August.

:)
