Yay! That's a start anyway... That hole looked awful since that back panel gets dented and scratched from all the balls... Was long overdue something!

Having said that the whole course is overdue some TLC really.

Even with the new back panel that photo still shows what a state the course appears to be in. It needs a complete renovation and update.

:)

I would love the resort to sort the golf out. Even more so now they are expanding it with the new village. They need to fix what they have before any further expansions.
I would be happy with the older holes being replaced, and a general clean up, as seems again Merlin are showing the total opposite to TLC.

Yeah I wonder if this will be a full refurb and clean or whether it's just replacing the air hole with a galactica one.

I know the farmyard still features but it would be pretty weird if there was still an Air hole this season.

While I was at the Resort over New Year they had 9 holes closed off and were painting the other course, I distinctly remember them touching up the UG Land hole so I wouldn't get your hopes up expecting new themes.

Saying that now at least half of the course must be out of date, with Ripsaw, The Flume, Squirrel Nutty, Teacups, Air, UG Land, Old MacDonald's Farmyard, Rita: Queen of Speed and the Driving School either being closed, re-themed or removed.

You sure they weren't just painting over the UG Land hole with a thin, patchy coat of grey primer so it matches the current state of that area?

It was looking perfectly fantabulous and dino-like. I was about to say they could re-paint the dinosaur eggs and change it into a Sub-Terra themed hole, and then remembered they'd closed that too. :tearsofjoy:

Makes perfect sense. :banghead: There are going to be kids young enough now to have never even heard of Corkscrew. I'm sure they won't question what a dinosaur themed golf hole is doing at Alton Towers.

Am I the only one who likes the fact that the golf has a nostalgic themed course? (that's the way I'm looking at it rather than out of date...)

It'd be nice if they had info about the old themes and rides throughout the course so people could learn about the history of the park.

Yeah same.

I'd rather have Ug Land, teacups and the farm holes rather than Dark (bland) Forest, pirates and CBeebies.

Mind I think it could be cool to see a hole for The Smiler though and Air's is pretty bland so that wouldn't be much loss.

Interesting that it's closed for a month, as I'm sure it's never normally closed for that long? They did paint a lot of the course not long ago, so I wouldn't think it's just painting as that only takes a couple of days.

I see why people like the old themed holes for nostalgic value, but then that's because we're enthusiasts.

On the other hand it's just lazy. I haven't had a round of golf for years because it's the exact same course, with the exact same themes and exact same course designs. It could do with a bit of a shake up and updating so it makes more sense to those who don't know anything about the history of Alton Towers rides and attractions.

They could do with keeping it fully maintained. The last time I went around it (it was years ago so maybe things are better now), theming was broken, speakers were crackling or broken, fountains were broken, the pond looked more like a cesspit and there was rubbish scattered everywhere.

Sorry are you still referring to the golf or the park? Lol
