Thorpe Park: General Discussion

^ Well, with Fright Nights being the only truly profitable time of the year for Thorpe, one would hope they plan to relocate them. Otherwise, they might as well give up running the place altogether.
 
I actually think this is a really good idea!

An interactive maze in a jungle setting combined with a reptile house. For a low investment year that's a pretty interesting concept. I imagine this'll be akin to walking through a Sea Life centre but with a bit of a story to it.

Plus there's potential for a Jungle themed scare maze to take its place at Halloween ;)

I don't think there will any live animals at all, just models. All the scare effects will be done with leg ticklers and automated stuff, not actors, from what Thorpe Mania has said.

I think it will be something like Nemesis sub-terra, crossed with a Dungeon and a scare maze.

Oh and I agree, I think they will add scare actors for Fright Nights
 
Oh yes without the real animals it will be a bit of a let down. But it wouldn't be hard for a company like Merlin to use real animals in the tanks (A lot cheaper than Animatronics). They have rats in the Dungeons, and most thought Atlantis (at Lego) was just going to be a ride through a glass tunnel when that was announced.

I guess what I'm saying is that I think this has potential. Of course Thorpe Park could easily cock it up but I love a slightly different concept and credit to Merlin they do at least come up with lots of them.
 
There won't be any live animals involved in the attraction. Considering it'll have a lot of people screaming and banging around in there, I consider that a good thing as it would be cruel otherwise. If they had a tie-in side attraction which was a reptile house, that would be nice.

I've got pretty bad tonsillitis, so I'm kinda bored which is why I've been looking into this a little more. I want to like this idea, despite the terrible IP. I don't want Thorpe to mess up. But I feel even they don't have faith in this. That they've only been planning it for six months just screams out they were running out of options towards the end of last season, and that we had no idea there was even a new attraction until the start of the week doesn't fill me in confidence either. Plus, when they could have come right out and hyped this with the 'I'm a Celebrity' brand, they instead did those stupid charades. I don't think that kind of marketing works well for an IP.

This could be fun, and I'm certainly willing to try it. I hope the wet sections aren't mandatory, though, because that final challenge sounds like you'd get drenched.
 
From what I've seen I think this will be a good attraction, it's different, unique and interactive. As long as there aren't ITV stickers plastered around it I can't see a problem. If anything the only downside will be the throughput I imagine.
 
I have to say I quite like the idea of this attraction, Thorpe have always needed more "relaxing" indoor rides, as there are just far too many Thrill rdies. So with the 4D last year, this one this year and the dark ride next year they are starting to get the balance right.

Now I am not expecting anything massive, but from the few photos I have seen it looks half decent and it will be good to utilise the space that is not used for 90% of the season. Also with the BBQ tie in, hopefully that will get a bit of a retheme and refresh.

I also wonder if they will use the space that they cleared next to it last season, or if that will be used in the future.

Finally with this being opposite the 2016 ride, could the two be linked somehow? Maybe its a itv ride/area?
 
Sounds like it might have crap throughput but this actually looks alright to me... It's a weird choice of IP, but the show still attracts 10 million viewers so will be instantly popular in that respect.

The interactive elements look like they could be quite good and the retheme of the F&B outlet is good too... My main worry about it though is that it may be too small or not hold enough people.
 
Don't Madame Tussaud's Blackpool already have an I'm a Crlebrity attraction? This could well be an attempt from Merlin to expand yet another spurious and pointless "brand" on the basis of "well disney have brands which they clone around the world, let's do the same"
 
I'm starting to warm to the idea of a 'jungle maze'. It fits the area, its indoors and just looks like a laugh. Something fun but not thrilling is something the park seriously lack. So in that respect, its a pretty good idea.

My issue is that its yet another cheap, outdated IP. Not the sort of thing a park like Thorpe should be adding.
 
It doesn't look rubbish, and thorpe have been in need of another indoor attraction, even baring in mind the 2016 dark ride. A shame they felt the need to tag an IP on top, but otherwise I generally approve of this.
 
I don't think it will die as quickly as Saw live aa there aren't really costs for actors. I think it would be more like Sub-Terra so as long as they maintain effects it should last a few years. But don't see it being more than three years before its replaced.

Also I don't see it as an outdated cheap IP (that would be Big Brother) IAC still gets 10 million viewers and goes out in prime time ITV1.

I would agree but this involves more than a simple scaremaze. There's 'attraction' parts to it and interactivity through the trials. I can't imagine it will need a particularly heavy number of actors either since most interaction will probably be through themes.

I see it as a much more substantial addition to Saw Alive which was simply a maze and that's it.
 
The IP doesn't bring a lot to this attraction, merely adds to the jungle theme which could still be done without the IAC branding. The clear reason for adding this branding is for marketing reasons. I've already seen it listed on many sites (including TV guides) which is more free advertising than I have seen for a ride for a long time.
 
In it's defence, I've seen a lot of positive comments regarding this. I've seen a lot of bad ones too, mind, but it's gone down better than I expected at least.
 
I know the brand is a little tacky, but this is an internationally broadcast show that has lasted for twelve years and still has no signs of cancellation - can't be that bad! An awful lot of people love it, and whilst it won't appeal to many here, I think it will (unlike Angry Turds) really draw in the general public. I imagine that "I would love to have a go at that!" is probably the most common reaction to the Bushtucker Trials when they are on TV and now people can. And for those unfamiliar with the show, Celebrity Cyclone, which is promised in the plans, looks ridiculously fun. I think it has the potential to be a great addition.
 
Bar 360 has now become Fin's Bar & Grill. I quite liked Bar 360, and going from the typical Merlin style of rebranding and offering less, I'm worried that they'll have made the place worse. I'll try it out next time I go but I don't have high hopes.
