after a week they have issued 1400 bands, so on average your looking at a 30k visitor day, with a 4pm close

I have averaged it as no dobut during school holidays that figure will rise exponentially, plus adding in normal day trippers and MAP holders.

I suspect it wont be a quiet day at all.

I don't think Towers are expecting many to return at all. However it would be highly amusing if tonnnes of people did turn up.

:)

Perhaps we will see them pull the challenge if the amount of tickets continues to rise
It's not so much how many people complete the challenge, but more how many people turn up on the day. If all you need to get in on Nov 4th is a Big 6 wristband, then there's no way of Towers being able to estimate the gate figures, nor can act accordingly.

Yeah, it will be interesting as towers will know how many bands they have given out, but they will have no idea how many of those people will turn up. I suppose we will see nearer the time if ride time is extended or anything.

They've been clever by placing the free day between two of the major events of the year (Scarefest and Fireworks). I highly doubt there will be masses of people turn up. By November most people will have forgotten about it and some will have researched and booked to visit Scarefest/Fireworks instead.

This whole Big 6 thing is just for fun at the end of the day. The free visit just gives some incentive for people to take part in the challenge and helps Towers get free marketing. People tend to be willing to take part in something if they think there's a freebie at the end.

I remember the day they let everyone in for free as long as they signed in on Facebook. It wasn't that busy. Most people didn't go out of their way to visit that day, they just happened to be able to visit and so did as it wouldn't cost them.

I think you'll get a few, but so many that they'll have any meaningful queuing. Lets face it a lot of school kids will do it, maybe not return.

Towers have posted a series of images on Twitter showcasing the interior of the brand new shop in Mutiny Bay:

It won't be too long until the cannon stops smoking I imagine.

I also find it saddening that all the minifigure statues are no longer being made from Lego. These cheaper statues are much easier to damage and look tackier overtime compared to the their counterparts that are made from genuine Lego.

Isn't the change also slightly to do with these figures being more like the actual Mini-Figs (in addition to probably cheaper to produce in mass quantities and easier to maintain)?

From experience the actual genuine Lego models are easier to maintain. Albeit they do take more time, effort and cost to make, they require less maintenance as their hands aren't falling off every week.

Can't argue with a smoking cannon. :D

I agree that it's a shame the Lego models have been replaced with giant minifigs, but this isn't Legoland, so it's not a big deal to me. It's nice to see they are stocking the new pirates range... just a shame most of the sets themselves are rather meh (though that is hardly Alton's fault). Still, the Bluecoats are finally back for the first time since the early 90's, so can't complain about that. :p

.... I'll shush with the Lego talk now....

It look nice, To be fair all the recent shop refurbishments have been nice, Smiler, Oblivion, Mutiny bay and now this one. Merlin clearly know where they make money!

And I am glad this unit is now being put to use, it's been empty for at least 3 or 4 years.

Looks like a very nice shop. Although all new Merlin shops at Towers (except Th13teen's) have always looked great. Like the cannon smoke, would be nice if that doesn't break overnight!

I suppose this makes use of a wasted building too (since the whole photo thing in there never hit off).
