One of the things I like about a wooden coaster is how grand and impressive they look.

I am just a little worried that one of the things that make Wooden coaster so special in my opinion could be lost with it been so low to the ground in the valley.

It will be interesting to see the finished product.

I hope and pray that it is not, not a woody coaster.
Hate , hate them, have no place at Towers even more so in Forbidden Vally.
My hopes are the wooden structure referred to is the loading station building.
It coaster needs to be a steel and concrete mega beast that rips the trees from the valley, rampaging is way through like a heard of wild pigs.
But hey thats just my hopes and dreams.

Just some food for thought, a lot of people think that woodies are unsafe, and that combined with the crash on the smiler probably won't go down well with the public nor press

Expecting a woodie, hope for RMC, think Towers should make a cracking job of one on that side of the valley. Sort of hoping that Air is themed more in the changes also.

The valley will return to being a key aspect of the park in the next few years, wonder if an entrance move is on the cards now also (I know it's part of the long term plan so may be time?).

So if someone else hates launched coasters do you think they should never have built Rita?
Everyone likes different things, thats why they should have a range of different rides at AT and currently, wooden coaster is one of the only types they don't have.

Drayton Manor has a stand-up and that fad has passed anyway so AT won't go there. We won't get a hypercoaster due to the height issues. Thorpe has a wing coaster. This pretty much leaves wooden as the best option for a new ride.

Just out of curiosity, what wooden coasters have you actually ridden?

Wooden coasters will do this better than steel. There's already a steel example in the form of Thirteen and that hardly pulls off a noble effort even if it is geared towards the family market.

I've only done Megafobia and Blackpool's set of woodies and I'm already a massive fan of them.

Whilst I don't dislike either type of ride, woodies in comparison to steel a lot more organic and can generally offer lots of airtime.

If Alton installed a woodie for SW8, for me it could just as good as Nemesis (if done right).

I can see SW8 being something like the construction of the ultimate at LWV, wooden hill or maybe hills with steel track, cant see it being totally built from wood but happy to be wrong.

As much as I like a woodie at AT, my main concern is that even if it will be a woodie, every enthusiast will have that dream layout in their minds (I'm looking at you Cross Valley!) and I fear we might be putting our hopes and aspirations a little too high...

Apart from the massive drop, I was never a fan of the Cross Valley layout. Much more a fan of modern, more compact woodies. I'm sure SW8 will incorporate the valley somewhat anyway :)

Personally, I think one is fine at places like Blackpool, but would look out of place in a modern theme park. I have never been on one, but if I had to choose to go on any of the main coasters at towers, or a wooden, it may only beat 13 or possibly Rita. Not saying that it isn't as good, but they don't look as good. Also, how can you put record breaking/world first on it.

I think Woodies look great at whatever type of theme park they're at, at least visually. For example, this picture of El Toro with Kingda Ka in the background looks amazing.

Wodan also fits in well at Europa.

I definitely think one at Towers would suit the park well. From both a variety point of view, and depending what the layout is like, would fit in visually as well.

Beginning to see what you mean now. When I think of a wooden rollercoaster, I think of a fading white, decaying track, think of it being rough and not having many inversions. Guess if one opened at towers, I would accept that they are actually good. My very non-enthusiast friends say this sort of thing (apart from the fact that they don't understand the words towers, inversions or enthusiast)

Anyone got any POVs of a good wooden?
