Thorpe Park 2017: DBGT: Rise of The Demon

So you saying "It's a relatively basic flat ride in a shed" is a total guess and likely a load of tosh! Just as I thought.

I would say that with the time they have available any sort of world class dark ride is unlikely. I know comparing to Universal is not the best but just look how much further ahead their new King Kong dark ride is compared to this.

:)

I see you're not allowed to make educated guesses and predictions on this forum - you have to have ridiculous obsessive and dellusion-tinted glasses on instead.

Not at all, we all love speculation and educated guesses. But are you seriously telling me that this came across as an eductated guess?
Absolutely odds-on for opening in March. It's a relatively basic flat ride in a shed.

You stated that as a fact and there is nothing worse than opinion being stated at fact. It's like me saying "Blackpool's 2017 project is a Mack launch coaster". Well no, I have no idea but based on certain information guess work could allow me to have this opinion. You didn't post an educated guess, you presented a fact that wasn't a fact!

:)

This is a forum, you should assume that most things that are being said are conjecture without the need for citations or prefixes all the time. 'Relatively basic' is hardly a specifi quote. The ride is surrounded by steal rollercoasters requiring a considrable construction effort, this cannot given its restricted enclosed dimensions.

Regardless of the level of the complexity of the ride, the construction effort will be relatively minimal and certainly be achievable across the many remaining months until the start of next season.

Although I personally do think it could open by March/April, with all due respect, that's nonsense. If it is a complex dark ride, the installation can take just as long as a coaster when it comes to thematic elements, programming and so on.

Do we really have to get so pedantic about the finer points of my argument. I've stated why there is no reason to suspect this will not open in March, and I'm not yet to read a single argument over why it wouldn't opn then.

Cringing at this. The website points to a total rehash of The Smiler's theme. It also (rather disappointingly) looks to be an in-house job, thematically - that website just doesn't look like the ride is gonna be IP-based.

Not only would a Smiler-ish theme be in poor taste (at least, in my opinion, I think it's a little off to be reusing such a theme) but I think the media/general public will pick up on this and hate it.

Minds wanted? Advocates wanted? Ah those people at Merlin Magic Making are terribly creative!

Good to see some more promotion of this though. A rumour regarding Derren Brown as part of the theme has been mentioned over on CoasterForce, would certainly fit what is on that website.

:)

I don't think it'd be in poor taste. What happened was awful but I don't think Merlin should shy away from any psychological-themed rides, and I'm guessing this was decided a while before the crash. If it was at Alton Towers then it'd be different. The Smiler's theme is/was very strong and worked very well so I can see why Merlin want to continue with this route. I just hope it isn't a carbon copy.

Forgive me if this has been mentioned, but does anyone actually have a good idea of what exactly the ride will be?

Not really, it's all been kept relatively quiet. I personally think it will be some sort of dark ride transit system and it would not surprise me at all if it had interactive elements.

Here's some progress on the building frame, photo from Zac on CoasterForce:

With Simworx recent aquisition of Robocoaster, I reckon we'll be seeing one of these for this ride. http://www.simworx.co.uk/rcx-robocoaster-g2/

In a recent news article they also said "Simworx has generated double-digit growth year-on-year since 2013, and is currently producing six new rides for three theme parks in the Middle East and one project in the UK, which will be announced next year."

The size and scale of the examples on their page looks similar to the size of the site also and with the collaboration between them and Merlin, with Angry Birds and Shrek's Adventure, looks likely.

Just over a year ago I did hear a rumour that Thorpe's 2016 ride would be dark ride using similar technology to the Harry potter ride at universal, so the above ride system could very well be what they are getting, would also explain the rumoured high cost of this ride.

I've heard this too. The chances are good of having one of these, and I really hope it is. Still, this makes me question the theme. The eye on the email update page, "your reality to be distorted", the type of ride...

Could mean absolutely anything. Could have very little to do with the final theme. It's very broad and generic.

'Your reality to be distorted' could be because the ride will be so immersive you can't tell what is real and what is fake. It will almost certainly have nothing in common with The Smiler thematically.

Yes, but it will relate to the theme, even if closely. All I mean is that, watching the videos on simworx, I can't see how they can theme it. Obviously they will.
