"Danger of Death"

But we're back to square one... the purpose of the sign is two fold, one which you are alluding to and one which you are ignoring. Forget about its "Don't do it function" - that's not disputed and of course it's impossible to track how many people haven't entered low zones because of them, because the only people we can count are the fatalities and injuries of those who choose to ignore.

The other purpose, is the "So you did it, got killed/injured - we DID warn you" - that's what this is all about.

I agree that there is that aspect also and it is something I have alluded to. Towers have always had signs stating that rides areas are dangerous, instructing guests to keep out. I personally think these signs are sufficient, they warn you of a danger, they tell you it is a ride area, they tell you to keep out. If you go in and get hurt then well you've only got yourself to blame. Does it need to be spelled out every few metres along a fence, which is now the case at Towers, that you might DIE? I really don't think so, it's an overkill if you'll pardon the pun!

:)

The daft thing is that Raptor's European clone, Monster, has no fence whatsoever around it's ride area. Not even a hedge. The path is boardered by a few sporadic shrubs, no more than a foot high, with plenty of gaps between them and no signs at all.
Oddly enough, no one has gone in to the ride area and died yet.

I believe this is the area where the accident happened:

So two lots of fencing and plenty of signs! But for some people nothing will make any difference. The danger is pretty obvious without signs.

:)

Okay, crossing the first fence would make you a slight idiot, but some people wouldn't expect to be hit by the ride in that area and see it as "safe". But if you cross the second fence then yes I think you should receive the Darwin award.

I expect the first black fence to receive so AT style danger do not cross signage as well now....

At least no one else was hurt. It is not uncommon with deaths like these where the idiot who climbs the fence is struck by the leg of a rider resulting in them being injured. I feel sorry for the riders and people in the queue who witnessed it and also the medics and ride ops.

This... seriously...

It looks bad, useless (looks like it would collapse if someone tried climbing over it), and is really unnecessary. Is that actually safe? The metal looks quite sharp on that last one.

I am personally very much looking forward to observing the heights of various fencing in the Floridian parks over the next 3 weeks! I'll be sure to report back the potential dangers at these popular and well visited theme parks.

:)

Its just a complete shambles.. Was walking through the Gardens, no fence round the lake. Could have quite easily fallen in and drowned.

I think this is just something done overnight to stop the hse from saying anything. Would have taken longer to replace the whole fence

I just mean that one piece over the tunnel. It's such a mess it's laughable. I hope Alton Towers do read these forums and see what a joke they are making of themselves.

We never had a chance to be the same quality as Disney or Universal... And now looks like Lightwater Valley is their aspiration.

It won't have been done to stop anyone like the HSE saying something. It will be a deicision from Merlin's/Towers' H&S teams to cover their own backs. It's clearly a park wide project that is being implemented.

:)

Someone said the other week that the fencing doesn't bother them and that it doesn't effect their overall experience....... Come on!!!
