*actually tries to read it instead of just seeing the headline on the Google search page* no idea why it doesn't work. Doesn't for me either. Just type the smiler into Google news though and the headline appears, first link. Sorry about that

Basically it is referencing the Danger of Death signs as if they have been put up to stop people breaking in and stealing bits of the ride as a memento of the crash.

Completely made up story and that is quite frankly sick.

They think THAT'S the reason for the danger of death signs

*wishes words worse than "they are idiots" were allowed in general discussion*

I read the article a few hours after it was published. Personally I think it's just another pointless article to keep the fire burning, because surly nobody would climb in now. Two months after the accident when all the stuff has been removed & taken away.

It just doesn't make sense really, if the article was published a few days or a week after the accident then maybe but not two months. All the damaged parts would have been taken by the HSE & then AT would have had a mass clean up due to the amount of blood that would have inevitably been in the area.

Whats unfortunate is how many people believe the papers, especially the desperate papers.
Plus how papers will literally destroy a company/product/franchise just to profit & benefit themselves.

My avatar says it all... I learnt not to believe the media at a young age after the reporting of the Hillsborough disaster in 1989.
Tabloids are the worst, but even the more "credible" papers are descending into gutter journalism as well.

Really?! With these signs appearing around the park over the last couple of months, you'd of thought they would have picked up on this earlier. But the moment they appear on The Smiler, the press are all over it, and from this article it looks like they've put 2 and 2 together and end up with 7,536 (or in other words, complete and utter bull****). Like seriously, who in their right mind thought this would be a noteworthy story? The Smiler bashing from the press continues, and it'll likely continue until the ride re-opens again. It's a sad, sad world when the press lower themselves to petty, pathetic journalism like this.
AT should snub them.
Thing is, if AT don't respond to these stupid, non-stories, then the general public will get the impression that AT aren't responding to the papers because the ridiculous story the papers have made up is true or actually has some credibility because "it came from the press, so it must be true!" (which is absolutely f*****g mental I know, but that's the mindset of most of the GP unfortunately). It's a ridiculous situation to be in if you're representing AT in the press, but in my opinion I'd guess they have to respond to them in order to stop these non-stories turning into something bigger than it actually is, especially since the press are still reporting on the accident.

"the danger of death signs put up to stop people stealing "momentos" from the crash site"
no, cant you get it into your thick head that there is a chance they have been put up because there's an ACTUAL danger if you climb the fence.

no, merlin couldn't care less about safety. Its just a coincidence that they've had no deaths and very few accidents.
They don't even ask you if you want wrapping in bubble wrap! They should be closed down!

And "stealing momentos from a ride" - what the actual f*** are you going to steal from a ride discreetly, without anyone noticing?! I think the press have gone f*****g nuts if they actually think that the reason that someone would actually climb the fences is purely to "get momentos from the ride". Did it not cross their thick skulls that the reason the signs are there, are to warn people that there is a genuine danger if you decide to climb into the restricted ride area itself?! The signs have been around for months, so it's typical press form to only pick up on these signs when they're put up on The Smiler.... as I said in my earlier post, it's their typical bashing of The Smiler again, and until that ride reopens (which hopefully is soon), I fear that these stupid, non-stories will keep cropping up in the news.

Wow, I never really knew just how much the press can wind you up until I read the articles the press have been producing on Alton Towers and The Smiler over the past few months......:mad::mad:

I would suggest people calm down about the press. It's a business so they will write whatever sells - it's very unlikely they believe what they are writing.
