Countless posts about "lets stop air travel, let's close roads" etc etc.

What EXACTLY do you propose then?? That the smiler opened the day after the incident? So What if merlin lose a few million in profits....

In the scheme of things....does it actually matter? I mean REALLY? If the smiler never opened ever again, we could all have a very good quality of life. Life being something that the victims will struggle with no matter how much money you throw at them.

If it happened to me, I don't think I would have been able to be as restrained as they have been. i'd be angry and shouting my hate for Melin and Towers from the rooftops!

I was at Towers today for a few hours. Moderate testing until lunchtime. Around 2pm another train was climbing lift hill 2 then stopped half way up (cars 1&2 were operating). Stopped there for around 15 min's then lowered down to the bottom slowly. Not long after that it climbed the hill successfully and carried on as usual. Didn't see any more activity after that for the next hour before I bogged off home. Nice bit of sunbathing on the grass though, nice weather ;)

P.S - TST might get some free publicity soon if certain news outlets read this thread lol ;)

It won't drastically improve my life or anyone else's. But in my opinion it will improve my impression of towers. To me, they have handled it perfectly, but I think leaving it closed would be a bit of a cop out to avoid the media, not out of respect.

What's the point in leaving it closed? Merlin will lose out on money, tower's ride line up will decrease (leaving us unhappy), and the damage is done, all it will do is keep the media onto them.

I can't believe the word ungrateful is even being thrown around.
The victims went for a day out and ended up with life changing injuries. Plus the crash itself must have been traumatising. They fully deserve the compensation they're getting.
They're not ungrateful, they probably just wish the crash hadn't happened in the first place!

Because its highly insensitive to open it straight away as if nothing happened.

It's all good and well saying close roads etc. We don't pay to go on roads to have a day of fun and entertainment, we go on them to get from A to B, and every extraneous variable cannot be controlled on a road unlike it can be at a theme park!

The thought that they should open it because its making fans unhappy is absolutely beyond comprehension in my eyes.

Yes we do. Council Tax pays for the highways. Well, unless you're a benefits claiming %$*
Read what I said again. I said we don't pay to go on roads to have a day of fun and entertainment.

Maybe not, but there is an element of risk assumed in everything we do. We don't restrict ourselves to things that are perfectly safe or we'd never leave our houses!

It should reopen and it should reopen as soon as possible. Leaving it closed isn't respectful, it's a machine that does a thing. Unfortunately, it did that thing wrong in a freak accident that comes down to human error, like most accidents.

People pay for cars and accept the inherent risk therein, like they should with anything, including theme parks.

In the context i am using the word, it is a pretty astute observation.

Disney would not support the victims and families in the way Merlin has. But if this happened at Disney the media would leave them alone, it would be a tiny article at the back of a paper.

I don't care what they do with the ride, scrap it for all i care. What i care about is seeing one of the girls and mother actively lie to the fail on sunday and good morning britain.

I understand that she ddoesn't want it to re open, and had it been the fault of the ride or it's system i would totally be on board with her. But it wasn't so in the eyes of Merlin, there is no need to keep it closed.

She says opening it so soon is disrespectful, how soon is too soon? Would she still be making that comment in 5 years? Yes she lost her leg, but she could well have lost her life. I just don't see why every time it calms down in the media, one of these 3, has to pipe up and drag it all back up. This company have given them the best care money can buy, and are going to give them all enough money to live comfortably, so the last thing any of them should be doing is making things negative up about them, by all means, have a pop at them for allowing the accident to happen, slag them for ruining your lives, but they are doing the best they can to put it right. Not saying money will do that, but it is better than hanging them out to dry aand making them fight for compo in court.

To answer whoever said earlier that she didn't get a lawyer within 24 hours, no it was likely her mother who did that, but none of the others did. Those families first priority was being with and making sure their kids were ok, not instructing a no win no fee solicitor whilst their child was in surgery.

Because its highly insensitive to open it straight away as if nothing happened.
This isn't what I meant. I was saying they shouldn't keep it closed any longer. Of course it would be insensitive to open it within days. Some rides have deaths and are open within a week! I think that's very insensitive.

The thought that they should open it because its making fans unhappy is absolutely beyond comprehension in my eyes.
What's the point of rides being built in the first place? To make people (not limited to fans) happy. Fans Is just the name for people who watch the developments in the park, or on the smiler with particular interest. One of the many reasons this thread has more than 3700 posts is because we care about the smiler.

Well it certainly failed on the 2nd of June.

Many of those posts are from people simply shocked by the accident, as I recall a substantial number of people used to slag it off before the accident happened.

This is just a case of people wanting what they can't have.

Actually, other than people talking about the broken effects and the queues/cattle pen I've never heard anyone slag it off.

You aint heard me then!
I go on about how its opening tomorrow!!
By the way its opening tomorrow, mark my words. !
But i hate the bloody ride. Hurts my back and the incessant ha ha ha gives me a headache.

yes she is ungrateful. Not for the sarcasticreasons some people are suggesting i mean, but for the exemplary support the organisation have given her since.

Once again, biting the hand that feeds you springs to mind.

you have a right to disagree with me. I am looking at this objectively and without emotion.

Has to be the most insensitive comment i've ever seen on here. Like you say, you have the "right" to say it, she also has the "right" to feel this way. Dont forget, for us it may be a while since this happened but no doubt for them, they are still coming to terms with their new way of life. Saying they are ungrateful? I'd be pretty goddam ungrateful too if I lost a leg through no fault of my own, i'd also be very angry and feeling a whole range of emotions for a long, long, long time yet.
