Towers Loving Care

So will the finished look be the left or right of this picture?

The left is the original proper colour of the Nemesis track the reddish brown on the right is not.
The right side looks much better so I personally hope that is how the rest will look

I disagree with the idea of completely clearing out all the ivy from the pit. In the pictures above, whilst everything looks very new and fresh, it also looks a little bland and open which is to be expected for a coaster in its an opening year. Personally, I prefer the tapestry of lush greenery, jagged sandstone and (ideally) bright red blood waterfalls. They clearly did intend for there to be plant life of some sort because there are shrubs planted in the beds in those photos.

I think the amount of greenery in the Nemesis pit goes a long way towards preventing the area from feeling too bleak and depressing like many of Merlin's takes on darker themes.

As for the new paint job, I'm a little concerned that it will just look like rusty steel but we'll see. Interesting also that they're painting the rails when I'm pretty sure that Nemesis has gone all its life up until now with unpainted rails.

This is probably an entirely backwards thought here but what if the right hand side of that previously posted picture is actually the undercoat. Then topped with full white?

So in theory as the paint ages over the next few years the patchy red starts to show through? Probably a ridiculous thought but you never know.

So according to that picture we could end up with a red(ish) nemesis? Seems more likely than the pristine white. At least they aren't going to paint it solid red like Inferno!

I think I'd have actually preferred the bright white or dark red to the weird rusty colour on the right of the photo.

I hate to think it but with the state the station has been in for the last few years, does anyone think it will be removed and replaced with a different facade? Leaving Nemesis to be a rusty themed rollercoaster as opposed to a monster? I wouldn't put it past them.

There can't be that many coasters in the world that are painted with so much detail could there?

Pretty much all modern coasters are one colour, maybe different supports or a different spine if you are lucky. Go back to 1994 and nemesis had so much detail painted on. Even the bases of all the supports have rock work around then (have a look next time you ride!).

You know what, even though we moan about the state it is in now, Nemesis has aged pretty well. The valley looks almost natural now in comparison. The reason why Nemesis is my all time favourite though, is because of it's theming. Not just the ride. The first time I saw it in the mid 90's was on the monorail looking down and I just thought, "Wow, WTF is that?". At that time it was still a vivid blood red and bright Ivory with blood running down into the valley. It simply had an absolutely awesome and menacing presence.

NO coaster (except Oblivion in a way, but still not the same) had the same effect on me as Nemesis did.

It was like nothing I'd seen before, seemed like we'd leaped forward 10 years in coasters out of nowhere. From the brilliant Thunderlooper, to that BEAST.

That beat, dum dum chsh, dum dum chsh, the dropping floor, the speed, I think it's probably for me the best coaster impact I've ever known. Feel a bit sorry for people who didn't experience that leap forward first hand & how absolutely mind boggling that thing was for its time.

And it's just gone on and on and on like an real monster, relentless, reliable, and still as thrilling as ever.

Just one of those halcyon coaster moments.

She deserves the absolute best of treatment!! She's bloody earned it!

Wow look how bare the lift hill and first drop is without the trees and overgrown foliage on second and third picture..

As impressive as The Smiler looks I would have loved to see Nemesis on opening day. It seems like they really used to put a lot of time into the fine detail of the ride where as nowadays they just stick it on a pile of concrete, shipping container for a station and then decorate it with some stickers direct from "leek signs"

I quite like the look of the new Nemesis paint. Actually looking forward to seeing how the area looks with a fresh face on Nemesis, new Air and whatever else they may have (hopefully) done. Is Hex being shut due to giving it a refresh as well do we know? Either way I'm looking forward to any good changes for this season, fingers crossed there're more of those than bad changes. RIP Ripsaw.

I refuse to believe it will take two closed seasons and a whole open season to fix it. It's a close season job. I'm not having it's anything but cost cutting.
Would prefer to be optimistic, but yeah, it's cost cutting. Can see them reversing the decision on hex though once it's fixed.

Hex obviously won't take 17 months to refurbish.

It is closed in 2016 due to budget constraint at Alton Towers.

However, it is convenient that it does require a lot of work - and this work will take place through 2016 ready for re-opening in 2017.
