Thorpe Park: General Discussion

It's Macka :p

I would have loved THORPE (do we still have to shout it?) to make it a working church.

Dear Wardley, we are gathered here today, to join the ride The Swarm backwards queue, please bless us with your guidance to bring Varney to his senses & turn the seats back the right way!!

Seems that worked though/

Praise the Wardley.

A general Thorpe park update from me. Today I went to Monk's Walk and I definitely would recommend it to anyone who wants to see an unique insight into the park. I noticed Colossus still had the scaffolding but as previously mentioned there is no ride repaint (presumably for a lift motor change). This is not the best topic to post it but Derren Brown Ghost Train looked good but I nothing new was learnt from seeing it. I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here maze is getting a new scene this year. I took some great photos from the walk and it really interested me how rides are maintained. I even saw a template for Rumba Rapids vehicles which made me wonder how much work makes every single ride at any theme park work (even fun fairs).

I had some bad things though that I noticed. It felt to me that some of the rides looked like they had been broken up for the closed season like rumba rapids but had no actual work being done on them. I still saw a Cabin in the Woods poster up and some theming for fright nights. This might be standard procedure but I would have rathered not seeing the decorations at this time of the year. One thing that saddened me the most was the fact the Canada Creek railway was simply left abandoned and signs were STILL up like counting the bears. I have great memories of counting the bears and it made me feel a bit sad.

Now this paragraph is more about Monk's Walk. The worst part was parking and the walk to the bridge which took about 5 minutes to get to. However, I had a great time today and I would love to go there mid season to witness Stealth, tidal wave, The Swarm, Saw the Ride and many more rides operating!

Dear Thorpe Park,

As you may or may not be aware, B&M are able to 'unlock' the vest restraints on their newer coasters so that they do not tighten during the ride. Please request that B&M do this on The Swarm for a more enjoyable ride. Cedar Point have done it on Gatekeeper and it now appears the vest restraints come unlocked from B&M as standard.

Many thanks,

Rob

:)

There's an interview in the metro today with Berren Brown about his ghost train. He claims it will be scary.

That is by far the worse thing about Swarm, especially if you are stuck on the break run for a while. Maybe with them adding the back rows back on, B&M might be out for it.

Thorpe Park will open on the 17th of March this year, which is indeed a Thursday! Source:

Still no date for Derren Brown however.

It seems Colossus, Rush, Swarm and Samurai (no surprises there) won't be open this weekend for the annual pass preview.

Be interesting to see if any of these open for opening day on Thursday, It's very rare Thorpe Park can ever open on opening day with a full ride line up.

From the passholder preview e-mail:

The rides we have available for you are Stealth, I’m a Celebrity…Maze, SAW – The Ride, Nemesis Inferno, Vortex, Quantum, Tidal Wave, Depth Charge, Flying Fish, Storm Surge, Slammer, Zodiac, Storm in a Teacup, Mr Monkey’s Banana Ride, Rumba Rapids, Rocky Express, Detonator: Bombs Away, King Pig’s Wild Hog Dodgems and the ANGRY BIRDS 4D Experience. Please note Colossus, THE SWARM and Rush will be open from March 17th when we officially open for the 2016 season. So make sure to visit again soon to experience these thrilling rides

So no Loggers, no Samurai and no X:\ on that list, but Colossus, The Swarm and Rush are intended to be ready for opening day.

I'm guessing Swarm is not open because they will be turning the last two rows on the trains forward (At least that's what I hope). If that's the case, then hopefully it won't have just one train for the first few weeks of the season like it did after it went backwards.

Can't they sort this crap out during closed season?!

It's not like it's exactly SHORT is it?!

Does it have to be a certain amount of degrees to turn a train around?

B&Ms are awesomely reliable as we all know, to see Swarm on the MIA list for preview day is bewildering.

Still, Merlin, so.... whatevs

There was a video a couple of weeks ago of it testing with all the rows forward. Maybe it's to save energy or whatever their excuse was when someone asked about 1 train operation

I didn't know there was a video of it testing with all the rows forward. Any chance of a link please?

Not seen the video but Thorpe have confirmed on Twitter that all rows of The Swarm will be forward facing this year.

Any bets for how long into the season it will take for Slammer to become buggered again? :p

:)

Will be interesting if they all open on opening day.

I'm very shocked that slammer is open for opening day, normally it's closed till at least June
