Cedar Point: General Discussion

It must be hard to decide what coasters to add to parks like Cedar Point, they have almost all bases covered! I'd like to see them get a modern woodie at some point, whether that be giving Mean Streak the RMC treatment or a new build from either GCI or RMC!

:)

I think they do need a good modern woodie considering how awful Mean Streak is meant to be. With all the great coasters they have, it's strange how Cedar Point don't have one already!

They don't have a water coaster either, which I think could be a decent replacement for Shoot The Rapids.

However hard it must be to decide, I would love to be on the team who has to make the decision! :p

Valravn is nearing completion, here are a few new construction photos from Cedar Point:

The zero-g should be interesting!

:)

It's like Mako this, undoubtedly a great coaster and aesthetically brilliant but you just wish they could have done something a bit more interesting with it.

Looks as expected which is no bad thing. I like the look of what they are doing with the landscaping and pathways in the area, just a shame that the coaster features no tunnels or headchoppers.

:)

A lot of Cedar Fair's coasters really look gorgeous thanks to their colour scheme. Especially Leviathan and Fury 325 <3

Absolutely 100% agree with @Rob on this one, when all said and done most cedar fair parks are amusement parks. Some are slightly more themed due to previous ownership, however Cedar Point in particular is an out and out amusement park, if you want theming, it's not for you. Personally I don't have a problem with this, as much as theming does bring a lot to a ride experience, I think there is plenty of room in the world for a good old fashioned amusement park.

I am also a big fan of the way Cedar Fair are presenting their new rides at the moment, sort of 2011-present. It's very uniform, creating a style that spans across the group which works really well in my opinion. There is a definite format/structure to the ride areas, which is usually features a large 3D logo atop a plinth/fountain in the centre of a stylishly landscaped plaza. It's very basic, but works incredibly well as seen in the examples below;

Fury 325, Carrowinds - 2015

They just look so good, why change what works.

Back on topic, as for Valravn I've not actually seen anything of the ride area other than the overhead from the POV, which looks really good. The coaster itself doesn't look all that inspiring in terms of layout, however there's no denying it's a good addition. It certainly looks to me like they've once again gone for the visual impact on the skyline and certainly this time, the parks main midway too. Impressive doesn't even cover it :D

I for one am a big fan of how Cedar Point have dedicated themselves once again to becoming a comic book, hyper-real park that should in no way exist in real life. It's like a kid's drawing of a park, all 600ft tall coasters with 50 inversions, it's fantastic.

Or it's like playing RCT for the first time :p

It's quite incredbile though because even though Cedar Point isn't a small park, it's quite restricted by space being on a peninsula but to fit so many large coasters is amazing. Especially when you take into account how big parks like Magic Mountain and Canada's Wonderland are in comparison.

Some Cedar Point news, including something that is potentially very exciting!

It would appear the Mean Streak is set to get some sort of re-furbishment (which I believe is much needed). Cedar Fair have just used GCI to re-track Ghostrider over at Knotts however Screamscape are reporting that Mean Streak may be getting the RMC treatment:
Screamscape said:
(6/8/16) Regarding the rumored changes planned for Mean Streak... forget what I said last week. The plans have not only been green lit, but Screamscape sources tell us that RMC will be coming to The Point to transform Mean Streak into something bigger, faster and much meaner for the 2017 season. Typically this usually means that Mean Streak will close down before the end of the season so they can begin to work on it, but no wors on exactly when this will be. With this in mind, be sure to get your rides in now on Mean Streak, because you never know which ride may be your last
(6/10/16) According to some early rumors, I'm guessing we could see Mean Streak close down early for the season, possibly as early as late July. It seems there is some rumbling amongst some of the staff who work the ride about being told they will be trained (and transferred) work other attractions by then.

If Mean Streak did get an RMC conversion then that would create a lot of very happy people. It looks like it's a fairly big coaster though so it would be quite a project. If it is set to close sometime in July then I'm sure we will find out more soon.

In other news it looks like Cedar Point are looking to add VR to Iron Dragon, VR Coaster have been onsite to carry out testing:

I expect VR on a number of Cedar Fair coasters next year, a bit like what Six Flags have done this year.
