Galactica: General Discussion

Do any of the other rides at Towers have any kind of permanent lighting for night-time openings like this, other than safety/floodlights?
Don't think so. The smiler might, not sure if that's only put up at scare fest though. There is also some fairy lights around katanga canyon and gloomy woods which I guess counts as permanent lighting.

Surely, opening Nemesis, Air, coffee lounge and RR to AP holders, RR visitors, Hotel guests and a £10 add on for normal day/online guests or something similar could be good for some extra revenue instead of just Galactica and RR for Hotel and RR visitors, add an £5 for entry and a free drink at coffee lounge could bring in a bit of extra revenue :p Be like a mini summer nights!

Not sure about this happening (great idea though, would love that to happen), but anyone think this could be ERT next season (with some kids rides throw in to). Just all the new paths and that both rides were ERT last season.

Yeah, I doubt it, just me dreaming, but if pulled off maybe on select days in summer, like summer nights it could make a profit :p Do we reckon this walk could be made into a smaller entrance in a couple of years, leading to the end of the muddy mess which is the woodland walk. :p If Drayton has more than one entrance, surely Alton can have one too, the walk to Forbidden Valley in the morning for missing Galactica's queue isn't fun :p plus Woodland Walk is closed at the moment so that doesn't help :p I don't see much point in permanent lighting around Galactica for scarefest and fireworks there all year, surely they are considering night openings after the trial, but I hear there was a poor turn out. Mind you, they didn't really advertise Galactica as being open!

But who would want to ride rides after being stuffed full of food. ?
I don't think they could justify the extra staffing costs for opening Galactica, never mind Nemesis for the amount of people that would want to ride it.

Summer nights would be a good idea. Open Nemesis and The Blade, install some more lighting, have some street entertainment. Could work well.

Maybe if they had gone ahead with SW8 in FV it would be a good idea

With the state of the area at the moment tho I can't say it would be worth opening at all

I think if they opened the half of the park so it included rita, thirteen, rapids, that would make it more worthwhile. Would be great if the swiss cottage could at least be able to serve drinks, so people can sit there at some tables on a summers evening.

Tried Galactica for the first time today. Have to say I'm impressed. I don't think the vr itself is great, very unnatural looking image, and I couldn't get the focus quite right on either of my two rides. Also noticed that on my second ride the word "standby" could be faintly seen over the video. the lift hill is impressive. Felt quite fast, like it was launching. Video on the ice planet wasn't great, saw the sides of the video even looking straight ahead.

The thing that made Galactica feel as good (even better) than air for me was the atmosphere of the ride. I can't really describe what I mean by this, or why, but it just felt better in so many ways. Even though I prefer air's music, galactica's just seemed to go with the ride. I do like how the photos are taken, even if the photos themselves look awful. I loved the station, maybe the preshow is a little long as you can't always watch the whole thing before boarding, but that's a minor thing.

ThE headset wasn't particularly comfortable. Had to hold it to my face the whole way round (think my heads to small, even with the headset as tight as it could go), and managed to get my hair stuck to the velcro both times. Quite difficult to get on aswell once the restraints down.

Overall, not a particularly special ride. Technology will break, towers will cut staff (on the subject of this, even though loading was much slower, throughput wasn't affected as bad as I originally expected), towers wont change the video, the whole thing will be boring and costly to maintain eventually. The atmosphere of the new side of fv, though, can only be described as magic. The RCR is amazing. cant wait to actually have a meal in there soon.

Second time I rode Galactic today the host didn't use his cloth to wipe the headset so it was still covered in antibacterial wipe stuff.
Very slimy, no matter how much I tightened the strap the headset just slid down my face.
In the end I gave up, took it off and had a ride on air :)

I was also on park today and I couldn't get my head set 100% in focus, it was not until I removed my head set at the end of the ride that I also could see that the lenses haven't been wiped properly and had a haze from the wet wipes.

I think I'll have to carry my own cleaning cloth next time.

How do you get the other videos, just ask? And do they compare to the standard one or do just they feel like extras?

You have to tell the hosts a secret phrase when boarding. For the most part, the video is very similar, however you get to see much deeper into the secret 'black box' dimension that can be glimpsed on the normal Galactica. It's a shame it leaves you feeling much more nauseous however, but you do get a free priority pass for describing how much you loved the experience when you get back.

Now I've not actually ridden yet, but if this really is the current state then they really ought to sort out operations. Unless ride times is lying, how can the park be completely dead with this large of a queue?!

It's currently showing 70 minutes! All I can think is that it must be running at reduced capacity! The large amount of faff involved does affect the queues, but I havent seen it that bad for a few weeks. On my experience Ride Times is sometimes inaccurate, last time I went it showed Galactica at 45 minutes but was actually a walk on!
