2017/18: SW8 Speculation

Regrettably, given the appalling guest figures of the past 12 months, I cannot see SW8 having anywhere near the budget of The Smiler.

Surely building an SW with a slashed budget would be a poor decision regardless of the last 12 months.
AT need to send a statement of intent for the future and a slashed budget would only have a negative effect imo
 
I agree with the above to a certain extent, although we know little to nothing about SW8 at this moment. If the budget will not be as high as The Smiler, how low will it be. If it's still above £10 million then we can still see a good ride come out of it. If there's some tech heavy world's first element involved then we can say goodbye to anything decent. It even depends on costs of removing The Flume, groundworks etc. Lets not forget The Smiler's groundworks problems ate up the budget, and Th13teen's drop mechanism ate up that budget. If SW8 doesn't have such problems, and has proper planning and no gimmicks attached, they could get a lot out of a lower budget.

I think all we need to see is a simply good family thrill coaster, with high quality theming. Simply and fun with a unique Towers twist (thematically).
 
I think this will be a family thrill coaster but as its in the GDO it seems silly to put all our faith on the layout in the earlier plan.

It is more than likely just a "here be roller coaster" than anything else. But as Dan said it almost certainly won't be as expensive as the smiler.

Nemesis was gimmicky at the time, it was Europe's first of it's kind. I know inverted looping coasters are everywhere now but back in 1994 the technology was very new.

The difference is that it wasn't advertised as Europe's first inverted looping coaster. I think the advert simply stated it was an "awesome new ride", that's all they needed to do.
 
Whilst I think it's great they are investing in a wooden coaster, I would have liked them to wait and maybe install a different family/thrill coaster leaving it until they can build a serious high thrill woodie.
 
That's what I've thought, if this goes down well then they could add a more trilling launched RMC like planned before, just not in forbidden valley.
 
Testing the water in the UK for how well received the woodies actually are.

But surely this wouldn't / shouldn't have a SW title.

And then the next woodie should.

Or maybe the other way around...

Does well.
Then just a good solid coaster, no gimmicks.

That was mainly due to the excavation of the pit though. I'm wondering if Alton would ever spend that amount on ground work again? I believe half of Oblivion's £12million budget was spent on the hole and tunnel as well.

Wonder how much of the smilers budget was eaten up with the pit?
 
Thing is that I've noticed with an SW tag on it, it immediately has a handicap as we all want it to be this and that and with the rather lukewarm reception to the plans, the SW curse has struck again.

It does seem to be a family thrill ride as many are saying and the irony is that had this ride never had the SW tag to begin with, we might've given it a better reception by us.
 
I still think we will see an alternate sw plan, family/thrill then thrill from now on. It's a good way for them to market new rides while they are being built. Builds up excitement for the gp and us. It's kinda worked we are all taking about it, for better or worse.
 
Surely this gimmick of the washing machine element was brought when they built the smiler, it won't be coming out this budget lol

Actually, no - I've just looked at all of those comments. Two have nothing on them at all, one just says 'Mmm wood <3', and the other two are in support of it. Interesting, given that we don't have all the documentation yet, but initial signs do seem to be positive. :)
