I'm a bit surprised at all the comments about how a huge cross valley coaster would have been better. Well... We know that. Alton knows that. Everyone knows that.

But we also all know that it is an impossibility. Due to many many restrictions placed on the park which have been discussed to death on here already, a huge monster of a wooden rollercoaster simply cannot be built at Alton Towers. It seems utterly futile to me to compare this plan to coasters which cannot actually be built.

Alton Towers never have and never will build giant rollercoasters because they can't. They have always tried to build compact rollercoasters which pack a punch in a small footprint. So the whole reaction from the community that it's "small" seems pretty ridiculous coming from a community which knows the challenges the park faces in building new attractions.

The final outcome remains to be seen, but as far as I can tell it was always going to small. Let's just hope it does pack a punch in a small footprint!

I think people are a bit optimistic as to what the cross valley woodie would've been. Yes, a substantial drop into the valley but it was then just a turnaround and another drop the other way (broken up by a second lift hill). Not much else to offer whereas this at least has a few more turns thrown into the mix, but misses the height

I'm not 100% sold on this coaster but looks far better than the cross valley.

Gets ready for all the Wardley lovers.

Considering the plans show that there is to be no water as part of the site a splashdown would be somewhat remarkable...!

:)
they could quite easily build a man-made splashdown, by constructing a concrete rectangle around a dip in the track, connecting a pump to it and filling it with water.

They could, apart from it's not on the plans!

:)

I'll just leave these here:

Does it complete the course with just a chain lift? That would be a good indicator of whether we should expect a launch/lift :)
