The fact that they've advertised Galactica as "the world's first roller coaster fully dedicated to virtual reality", when there were several coasters already around with VR, it just shows that Towers will stretch as far as they can to make a world's first claim. So nothing would be surprising for this development.

So The Flume is going with no plans for replacement? A flagship theme park with only a rapids and a splash battle? I know it's Britain but a park still needs a decent water chutes ride for the summer at least.

As far as the plans go for a so called Secret Weapon development the plans are underwhelming. I understand the issue with the woodland but the layout just looks so safe and restrained. Why does every new project have to be a SW? Can't they just build a solid family ride like this is obviously (and thankfully) going to be?

There are some promising details in the plans (WOOD!) like the enclosed sections of the ride, theming elements and lack of cattle pen but half of that won't likely materialise and even if it does it's not enough to make this particularly exciting.

If this was plussing the park's line-up i'd be more than happy; but it just isn't a worthy replacement of what was once one of the best water rides in the country and a theme park staple. Even the lake is set to be drained and filled....

Agree re the need for another water ride. It was roasting today and we ended up waiting 50 minutes for the rapids.

They can't change the queue or the enclosed sections, they're integral parts of the plan and they would need to submit a new application to change it extensively from these plans. The enclosed section is there to help reduce the noise and will probably be fundamental to getting these passed.

I do agree that they need another water ride, but the filtration requirements could prove a sticking point with them being unlikely to want to splash out on big water cleaning system for just one ride.

There most probably are plans for a replacement water ride, and it could very well be that the next medium or high investment is a Flume ride, maybe an indoor one replacing Charlie and the chocolate factory. Just because no plans have been released yet doesn't mean they have removed it without planning on replacing it eventually.

Personally I don't care if the flume gets replaced or not. I generally only visit on fireworks weekend so don't ride the flume anyway. I would rather have a ride that is good fun all season than something that is very popular for 3 months out of seven.

He makes a lot of sense.

I just wish a water ride could be toned down during the cold months.

Valhalla is amazing. But you wouldn't catch me on it when it's cold.

I've been on the flume during scarefest/fireworks when it was slinging it down and I was already soaked.
It always seemed to have a steady flow of riders throughout the season (though always more popular in the summer) and with it being a family ride it seems stupid not to replace it.
Hopefully something will emerge in the CATCF site in the future at some point, possibly their next project.

Water coasters from Mack and modern flumes like Chiapas can have the water levels reduced depending on the weather and time of year.
It is just a question of would Merlin invest in such a ride over a cheaper standard flume.

I'll never understand why people think a flume is essential. Sure, they can be good. But I'd hardly say all parks need one. If every park had the same line up of rides the world would be a very boring place.

That's not to say that a new water ride of some kind would be a bad thing, of course. But it would need to be more than just a trough winding through some trees. A water ride needs to be a themed masterpiece to stand out these days, where the transit system is almost incidental to the story being told. There is a lot more to water rides than just "up, down, splash".

But who's going to get excited over Towers next water ride when Blackpool has Valhalla. And I don't care that all the effects aren't working. It's still amazing.

And I know you think so Alice... Mrs we're already soaked another few more goes won't hurt.

How embarrassing if Flamingoland get a better woodie than towers.

Thinking about it, RMC did say they were in talks with a UK park.... If Flamingo Land get an RMC (If, it is only talks, but I don't think towers were in talks with them either) then I see a lot of the Northern market going to Flamingo Land instead. if it is in 2018 as well, poor Towers :p

Even if Flamingo Land aren't getting an RMC, I think one will be coming to a UK park before SW9 (around 2021?) and it will blow this away.. I feel like if they hadn't marketed it as a SW, a lot of us would be much happier with it, but this looks like it could be the weakest out of the Secret Weapons yet. I wonder what happened last time a family thrill ride was marketed as a Secret Weapon. if an SW is announced, everyone automatically expects a major thrill ride, and while this looks fantastic, I don't think this could be considered a thrill ride..

What's your definition of "everyone" though. We might expect a thrill coaster the second the SW tag is announced, but does the average visitor know that those two letters have an expectation? I doubt it.

oops, that is true. but for enthusiasts, them two letters are the most important letter at towers, and with Thirteen, it wasn't just enthusiasts that thought it was going to be a thrill ride, so if the same happens again, this will be a let down for people that aren't enthusiasts, and think it will be a thrill ride.

An interesting theory I've heard is what if the first drop isn't a drop so to speak?

A 'Secret Weapon' means something substantial and intended to 'wow' the public, regardless of whether they are aware of the history of the name. If it doesn't wow, as a family or thrill product, then it's essentially a failed product. But really, Towers need to stop doing that formula and just invest in a series of quality rides. A good quality ride markets itself, a bad quality ride relies on the hype generates for it.

A water ride of some type is needed in the line up. Doesn't have to be a flume, but people still go to any theme park expecting to get on a wet ride. Rapids doesn't do enough to fill that gap, whilst the coaster offerings have saturated the park.

Well everyone is predicting the launch goes straight into that first drop, what if it does a sort of big banked turn off the launch first?

What if it's just a normal ride?

Also, I never went on the flume. Never the right weather on any visits really, so I cant say I'll miss it particularly much...
