Thorpe Park 2017: DBGT: Rise of The Demon

Exactly. Everyone's excitement has been used up. They've already blown it with this ride and it's not even opened. Typical Merlin... Promising the best and not delivering.

They've spent way too much on this to abandon it now. Everything externally is pretty much finished and it has been testing so it will open at some point this year, who knows when though.

You get one chance to get a ride right.

Look at what happened with sub terra. Granted this hasn't opened but two promised dates for opening is a bigger let down than going on and it not being perfect then tweaking.

Is it worth me noting that this day 2 years ago we were still waiting for Arthur to open at Europa Park*. Not to mention this years new area is still far off completion.

I'm not defending Thorpe Park by any means, but this delay isn't quite as bad as we think. Legoland's Viking River Splash didn't open until the end of Summer 2007, again not something we want a repeat of.

* I only know this because its now been 2 years since I was last there, still haven't ridden Arthur and want to get back.

Don't think anyone's said it won't happen, it just doesn't seem like it will. They've stopped advertising or communicating about it. It was meant to open a month ago and nothings happened yet. It just feels like it doesn't exist. Of course it will open (I hope), but its just observations about the lack of... anything about the ride lately.

Effects aren't working properly/to an acceptable standard. What exactly? We don't know

It's either going to be a technical issue, or derren brown wasn't happy with it. Can't see it being anything else, and I expect it to be the latter.

This isn't to everyone - but...

Come one, guys... get a grip! Delays happen. Get over it.

You'd moan if it opened on time and it wasn't ready - and you're moaning it's been delayed because it's not ready.

We've waited 2 years for this - give it a few more weeks. We Do NOT know what the issue is... just be happy they're working on it.

I can't wait to experience it; patience is a virtue!

I like moaning when multimillion pound company's promise me something I arrange my side of the bargain by booking hotels and them mess my plans up (time and money) and that's just acceptable.... Twice. Once again. I like to moan.

Why shouldn't people moan now? Advertising an opening date in the first place was unwise with a project like this. Also, call me cynical, but with the way life usually goes aboard the good ship Merlin I'm expecting to moan anyway when it is open and I've been on it. If Thorpe can prove me wrong then great! In the meantime I shan't hold my breath.

That said, I am pleased that it's being held up until it delivers the experience they feel it should, rather than repeating the Sub Terra situation.

I understand why people are frustrated it's not opened yet and maybe Thorpe should have been more cautious with their potential dates but by the sounds of it this project is ridiculously complex and they've probably encountered endless problems that were entirely unforeseen along the way.

What I don't understand is when people moan that they've been completely messed around twice. Yes they had one date scheduled but then they just stated 'by the end of May' so it was hardly like trips could be planned on the basis of that.

Forgotten about this! See - eventually people forget all about it , like me, and its only from noticing this thread I remembered! Lost all interest in it now to be honest.... if its having these problems now, its going to be one of those rides which will always have technical problems and eventually close down after a year or two due to reliability problems.

Wouldn't say that's necessarily true.

Arthur at Europa?
Chiapas at Phantasialand?

Both much delayed due to teething issues but both now running fine.
