2017: New Attractions for Cbeebies Land

"Alton Towers have submitted an application for the 'demolition of existing structures and installation of a new ride and construction of associated buildings, along with landscaping works.'

Detailed documents are not yet available, but we'll bring you full details as we get them.

Could this suggest a new addition to the theme park for 2017?"

From TT's Facebook.

Without seeing the documents I would assume it's SW8 md the flume but fingers crossed, there's something hidden :)

^ But they've already submitted that application?

Need more fillers at Alton badly, reopening some of the closed stuff and adding a new ride could make the world of a difference.

As much as I love coasters, Alton needs more than just them.

It's a different application to SW8. Hoping for a flat but if I had to guess realistically, I'd say it's Charlie replacement.

Hopefully a new flat ride in either the X-Sector, Forbidden Valley or Dark Forest. They really need to add a filler ride in the dark forest so I personally hope it's for there.

Maybe this is to demolish Spinball and it's buildings/theming to make way for CBeebies Land to expand?

Hmm I hadn't considered the demolition of Spinball. It's certainly possible but surely a further reduction in the number of family rides available would be the wrong way to go at the moment in time? Actually it can't be, not even Towers are stupid enough to commission a full IMAscore soundtrack for a ride only to demolish said ride a few months down the line.

:)

I don't think they would need planning permission to demolish Spinball. Isn't it part of the general development order?

Why demolish spinball, they are swiftly running out of rides at Towers? if you just moved the entrance of spinball to the bottom, then demolish the noodle shack and picsolve building. You then have a big enough area for a kiddie ride expansion of CBeebies.

Possibilities of locations I assume are:

1/ Around Spinball area for more rides in the Cbeevies area (sigh)

2/ Charlie and the chocolate factory site

3/ the driving school/wobble world area

Can't think of anywhere else unless it's Sub Terra or Ripsaw area.

My first and hopeful thought was Charlie.

It could however be Wobble World/Driving School, the Ripsaw cafe or the kiosks around Spinball for CBeebies expansion.

Can't really think what else it could be?

I think I'm correct in saying that the Driving School requires a lot of maintenance and staffing. It's also looking a little bit outdated and shabby now, so it wouldn't surprise me if it was being removed to make way for a new family attraction next year.

I hated how they removed the Vintage Cars and stuck that commercial eyesore in its place a decade ago. It clogs up that whole area behind the Towers, is anything but sympathetic to its historic surroundings and is largely responsible for turning that corner of the park into a dead zone.

Thankfully along with Charlie its probably paid for itself now and hopefully will be removed before the end of the decade. The cheap faddy investments of 2003-2007 really do have a lot to answer for their part in the overall decline of the park since the millennium.

I always liked driving school, it was one of the few installations of it's era that seemed to be fairly decent. That area of the park was completely dead long before that was installed, in fact it is a hell of a lot busier since the Driving School was opened up. It is also very popular with it's target audience.

Locals hate the ride and there is a lot of space they could use for family attractions, i don't think this is referring to spinball though as when they have removed rides in the past the planning description has explicitly mentioned "removal of ride/ roller coaster"

I would presume it will be on the Ripsaw and Refresh @ Ripsaw site, or the CATCF site. No mention of an actual ride building that there is for dark rides, so I personally think it will be flat or water ride. How long should it take for full plans to come out though?

I'm guessing it's the CatCF building or around that area or the park, but I'm not going to be surprised if we see refresh or sub terra or blade (or all three) go. "New ride installation" is interesting though. Hopefully a water ride if we're replacing something in ccl, or a flat if this ride is in FV. Should be for a ride opening next year if they get onto demolition/construction soon, but I imagine a flat could be set up quite quickly if that's what we're getting.

And just remember how quickly octanauts was built ;)

I hope this isn't the Zamperla Water Mania that was meant for Chessington this year....

Good to see at least something being added next year. Best we can hope for is a thrill flat for Forbidden Valley, realistically though, it will probably be new a ride for CBeebies land.
