Scarefest 2016

If there's going to be four mazes, is it likely to be SS, TotT, molly crowe, and the new maze? Molly crowe was good last year, but I'm not sure they'll want to bring it back, not very rerideable once you know what happens. Don't know if they'll introduce two new mazes this year.

That said though, they had two new mazes last year and it worked for them. Very interested to see how this works out. Can't wait to go this year (and just for anyone who says that scarefest isn't that good, I may also be going to screamfest Burton to compare the two attractions ;))

If there was four mazes this year, is it likely that they'd all be in the towers? Perhaps it is more likely that at least one would be where carnival was or something like that.

Speaking of carnival, I've heard that there will be a clown scare zone where goal strikers is (not a maze), featuring the audio and many props from carnival. These are all bits I've heard from the social groups I loiter with, and whilst I have zero evidence of their validity, it is still exciting to begin speculating.

As for the four mazes, I have heard that Crowe is going, TOTT remains the same, and Sub-Species has only one ending, is shorter, and contained entirely within the ruins.

The other two mazes remain a mystery. One is with the only clue being "beauty is only skin deep" (i did a trawl through Google on this, and found no significant third party IP potentials except for Saw, which is unlikely), and another maze. I have heard the name "Unmasked" being used with reference to Scarefest amongst enthusiasts.

I'll be very disappointed if sub species is toned down this year! It was a fantastic maze that id love to do again this year.

If anything I think they should be looking at trying to make the other mazes scarier instead. You don't go to Scarefest and do the mazes unless you are looking for a little fright.

I find it ridiculous also, i thought it was just right for a scare maze (It was the only maze which has ever had me significantly "on edge"), however this is what i'm hearing. Towers want to maximize revenue, and by toning it down i suspect they realize they may sell more tickets.

I'm (almost) certain it won't be saw. Towers have never gone for an IP maze in the past, and if they start, I heavily doubt they'd go for one of thorpes. I think it will be based on a local story, like molly crowe or hex. I'm sure whatever it is though, towers will make it work. It's probably the only thing I still have faith in towers to do, they have a great creative team behind scarefest.

As for the clown scarezone: that excites me. For no real reason, I love clown/circus mazes, no matter how bad they are (perhaps I just like relieving a disastrous school trip I had to a circus years ago ;)). Hopefully it will use lots from carnival, but still be slightly original.

But too scary? Seriously? It is only over 15s. I admit, I was with someone who didn't make it to the end, but it's not like towers didn't say it was extreme. It's like going to legoland and complaining that there was too much lego.

Brilliant, people complaining at how scary a horror maze is. I personally find Sub Species the best maze Alton Towers have ever created. Though yes, it is very scary. It's still a lot of fun. Isn't that the point?

Further to the news of the Scarefest hearse making its return to Towers Street, the Scarefest page on the website has now been updated, with space on the page for only 3 mazes & 2 Scare Zones. Also confirmed is the return of the 'Freaky Four', and The Alton Ancestors. Scare Maze tickets remain at £20, with annual pass discount tickets available for £16 too.

Just shows I suppose things get exaggerated by enthusiast rumours three mazes, assuming Crowe goes, is still promising though!

Just going on what you said in a previous post, where you said there will be two new mazes; one called unmasked, and one with the tag line "beauty is only skin deep", maybe they're the same thing. Maybe the teaser or tag line for "unmasked" will be beauty is only skin deep.

You’re invited to explore the disused mine in the baron town of Altonville, rumoured to now only be home to one warped and weird family of outcasts who are accused of capturing townsfolk for their own gain. Dare you join us as we investigate what lurks beneath and discover the horror and truth of what desperate and dark lengths they are going to all in the name of beauty?

And from the website:

Skin Snatchers the brand new live action horror maze for Scarefest this year, set in the baron town of Altonville. A family of inbred hillbillies are outcast due to their hideous disfigurement and warped way of life. Through desperation they begin capturing townsfolk, before removing their skin and stitching it into their own in a hope that this may finally give them the beauty they so desire.

I'm really hoping this is the start of a trend that sees a different maze every year.

If this is in addition to a reworked TotT and sub species I will be very happy! Great to see another new maze this year I just hope it's another decent one.

I just wish they had they redo TotT this year completely. I get that it's like their staple attraction because it's about the Towers themselves but still...

Like the sound of that new maze though! Definitely an interesting concept which will be great if executed correctly. Looks like Scarefest will have a nice little budget this year hopefully if they're able to do a new maze
