You're right, but I felt like I had to see what drivel they were coming up with and how many sheep were commenting saying 'OMFG YOU SHOULD HAVE CLOSED IT', like come on seriously they make me laugh more than anything.

Yeah its the temptation to look at the stupidity, which is sometimes to hard to ignore lol

Found this on Twitter "One accident and one fault, and people think The Smiler at Alton Towers should be shut down. I guess we should all stop driving cars, too."

Sums it up nicely

Got quite scared when I saw a photo of the smiler when the news came up on my phone. Almost relived to see that it was another lift hill stop. Can't wait for everyone I know to start telling me it should be torn down after doing what it's meant to do.

The best thing though: this will likely get more coverage than the m&d's accident

It's ridiculous that this has been picked up on... The rides been closed on various occasions since reopening due to technical difficulties (as with all rides) and hasn't been reported on. Yet when someone decides to take a video of it stopped on the vertical it makes national headlines.

Utterly stupid.

At least all this trip is making people realise that they can't trust anything they hear from mainstream media. ;)

Anyone want to predict one of the victims will be on national TV either tomorrow or Saturday saying how "unsafe" it is after this event?

These people make me laugh, no one said Th13teen should be shut down when it was closed for 4 days in July, its just because of The Smiler's history at the end of the day I guess.

Well Joe retweeted how it should be shut permanently this afternoon, so wouldn't surprise me if he's on TV, milking it further now.

Some of the best tweets:

"Actual dinny understand how Alton Towers is still open, the place is a death trap haha"

"BUY MARIJUANA SEEDS: Alton Towers Smiler rollercoaster closed over 'debris': The Smiler ... bbc.in/2cfRRDt #salford #manchester"

"Think I might go Alton Towers tomorrow, the queues will be well short!"

"If you ever hate someone and want them to suffer just buy them tickets to Alton towers"

"someones put a curse on the smiler at alton towers i bet. that rides cursed!!"

I bet all those News outlets have completely forgotten about M&D's mishaps and think of Smiler as a cash cow to the media.

I don't know if to feel sorry for M&D's for getting all the bad press off their back. Talk about 15 minutes of fame over an incident that is far worse than this, ahem, 'incident'...

I wouldn't worry too much, this isn't a big enough story for even the tabloids to go on about after today. Then your average idiot will have forgotten about it and will find the next thing to be outraged about.

This incident isn't just a routine stoppage/breakdown. They've said it will remain closed until further notice, they don't usually say that following routine breakdowns. It's something SLIGHTLY more significant.
