2017: Voletarium

As standard the opening ceremony/speech may be, I'm glad to see somewhere like Europa do this as it shows how much the park care and are dedicated in what they do. When they open the park each year it seems they are advertising the next updated model of the park.

As for Project V. I'm not sure what to think about it. If it is a Soarin style ride can't say it sounds like my thing but knowing Europa it will still be a great park addition to the stunning line up of 60+ rides.

I liked Soarin, so I'm looking forward to seing Europa Park's version of the ride. Sure it will be a great addition to the park.
And it's great to see them building a big ride just next to the entrance as there is no ride there at the moment. :)

A preview centre for Project V is being set up on Deutsche Allee:

I am looking forward to seeing what is in here. Hopefully the attraction will have lots of unique and/or quirky features to make it bespoke to the park. I am aware Futuroscope are likely to be getting the same thing, so it will be interesting to see if and how the attractions differ.

Not sure if it's been mentioned but apparently Port Aventura are also using similar Soarin' style tech in a Ferrari Land attraction. Seems odd that all these parks are adding similar rides at similar times. Add that to the ongoing rumour of Soarin' coming to DLP and we are seeing mas usage of a pretty boring piece of ride tech, its the Mad House plague all over again.

Another Soarin is being built at Futuroscope next year, and I've heard about a 4th one in Amsterdam but apparently not in a park. So after not having any for years, Europe is going to have 4 of them next year! ^^

I'm not the biggest fan of these rides, personally, but it's a cool addition for a park with an already stellar line up, for sure.

there's a new one in Washington, as well!

EP are set to announce more about Project V at EAS in Barcelona later today. Meanwhile in the build up Michael Mack has posted this photo to Twitter:

Appears to be a model of what could be an entrance archway to the area of the new attraction!

looks nice!

Europe's largest flying theatre and Europa Park's largest investment!

The official name isn't going to be revealed until it actually opens next season.

Official website with the launch video: http://www.project-v.eu/

Indeed, Project V has been confirmed as a Soarin' style ride. Here are some stats:
  • 2 theaters each with 7 gondolas
  • 70 seats per theater
  • 3 floors
  • Ride-time: 4.5 minutes
  • Capacity: 1400pph
  • Height of hall: 16m
  • Screen diameter: 21m
From look at the concept/plan that forms the background of the Project V website it looks like the entrance will be as soon as you enter the park on the left which is somewhat concerning in terms of opening year crowds. It looks like it is going to be very nicely themed.

Due to open in Spring 2017 although Michael Mack admitted that it's more likely to be May than April at the moment hence they are only saying spring. They will be revealing more in the next month including how the idea of the ride came to being.

EDIT:

Here is the concept image I was taking about showing some details of the new attraction's location:

I seem to go against the grain when I say I love Soarin'. It's not meant to be a thrill ride, it's a peaceful and visually stunning experience which is really unlike anything else I've ever come across.

They just need to get Hendrik to do a Jerry Goldsmith on this one and they'll be onto a winner!

I enjoyed Soarin' too and it is clearly a very popular ride. EP are bound to be onto a winner here not least because it will appeal to almost every guest who enters the park. My biggest concern so far really is the location. I understand why it is in Germany and this does make sense but I do not think it is a good idea having the ride entrance literally on the left as soon as you enter the park. You won't know you are even at Europa-Park before you're in the queue and Deutsche Allee could end up becoming extremely crowded at peak times.

:)

Something that worries me, I've just ridden the new "Soarin' around the world" and noticed it includes all the locations Project V has so far teased in the trailer. I hope they find a way to bring something new to the experience.

Even Europa-Park at the end? ;)

It's an interesting point though, I've no idea what the content of Soarin' Around the World is but with EP's focussing on Europe I would imagine that it will visit several places that Soarin' does not. I'd also imagine the percentage of guests who visit EP next year that have ridden Soarin' Around the World will be insignificant.

It's all classic "Wonders of the World" stuff - Taj Mahal, Pyramids, Great Wall of China etc. One thing it definitely WON'T have is the DL castle at the end, you can be sure of that at least ;)
