Liseberg: General Discussion

I was expecting a B&M but like you not a Dive Machine seems a bit of a odd choice with Atmosfear around the corner.

I thought they would've gone for a B&M Invert or a B&M Hyper. I know RMC were rumoured, but the planned site for development was the factory by Balder, and having two wooden coasters right next to each other may not have worked. Still, I'm sure this will be a good addition to Liseberg.

A couple of years ago there was a flutter of rumours about a invert. Will certainly dominate the skyline. The yellow seems a strange choice I think.

Mother of Wardley, 2018 is going to be an INSANE year! Better start saving now, guys.

from what I found, it's for 2017! this sounds optimistic.
Anyway great news, and great addition for an already lovely park :)

Unless they've found a new location rather than the factory next to Balder, I can't see this going up in time for 2017. Nonetheless, two additions that look superb.

What. On. Earth?! Well. I wouldn't have thought a Dive Coaster for a second!

Any news on the layout? Standard one-trick pony or with a little extra after the drop?
[edit: WAAAAAAIIIIT!!! Looks like an inversion by the drop! Woohoo!]

Interesting! Looking forward to the announcement tomorrow to see if we get more news :)

Glad the new coaster is B&M but was hoping an invert, still it looks great and I trust Liseberg to make this look brilliant! The giant discovery looks excellent as well, even if I liked Spinrock

It's quite odd how this is only Scandinavia's second B&M considering how many world class coasters they already have.

It's the longest Dive Machine in Europe so that is encouraging, from what I can tell there seem to be at least two inversions! We'll find out a lot more tomorrow I am sure.

The Giant Discovery will be a great addition also, they look like tonnes of fun!

:)

According to some reports Loke isn't a Zamperla ride but is an Intamin Giant gyro swing (bigger version of Maelstrom at Drayton Manor) and will feature lap restraints like on Taron.

The addition of a B&M is an important step for Liseberg. It is currently a delightful park with a lack of outstanding attractions.

This will assist greatly, as will the gyro swing.

:)

That would check out with the concept art. The gondola in the picture has a spoked structure like Maelstrom does. Zamperla Giant Discoveries have thick square-section beams in a star arrangement.

It would be interesting riding a giant frisbee with lap bars. I'd be keen to try it.

As for the dive machine, where did that come from!? A bit disappointing that it's only a 6-across model. Usually with dive machines, more seats = more better but on the plus side, the concept images show signs of a more interesting layout than we're used to.

In any case, lots of reasons to return to Liseberg soon.

Over on Themepark.nl there is rumours that Kanonen is being removed to build Valkyrie, also the lift hill will go where currently the launch is.

That would line up with talk about the banked turned after the drop on the water.

Shame though, it's not a bad very little Intamin, and the count down is my favourite part of the ride.

The concept art seems to show 2 x 6 seating, which is a shame :(

I thought that, then I saw a photo of Baron whereby the perspective made it seem that it also only have two rows of seating. I don't see why this wouldn't have three rows seeing as all B&M Dive Machines appear to these days, large or small.

Interesting that the flat could be an Intamin with lap restraints, that could be very fun! I'm excited to see what comes out later today.

:)

English language announcement video:

It's great that they've taken the time to record this in English rather than just subtitle the Swedish version!

Interesting to hear that they've only had an "OK" season this year, with weather having an impact.

And here is all of the information:
Liseberg said:
During 2017 and 2018 Liseberg will invest around SEK 250 million in new attractions and concepts for the 8,000-square-metre area near Balder. The inspiration comes from Norse myths and legends, and among other things means that Balder will be joined by two new attractions: Loke and Valkyria.

This is the biggest investment in developing an area of the park that Liseberg has ever made, and will be spread over two years. In 2017, Liseberg will open Europe’s tallest Gyro Swing attraction, and in 2018 Europe’s longest Dive Coaster. The site will also get new shopping, amusement and restaurant facilities. All the new additions will follow a theme inspired by Norse myths and legends.

“Our history provides fantastic tales to inspire us,” says Lotta Carlsbogård, creative manager at Liseberg. “This investment will take shape over the course of two years, rather like a tale in two parts.”

Loke – the battle begins
Buckle yourself in and sit facing outwards with your legs dangling from the spinning gondola. At the highest point you reach a breathtaking 42 metres in the air. Scarily close to Balder – and much higher!'

When you ride the Loke attraction you sit facing outwards with your feet dangling from a spinning gondola that also swings through an angle of up to 120 degrees. At the height of its swing the gondola rises 42 metres above the ground – twice as high as its predecessor, SpinRock – before plummeting at 100 kph towards Balder, so close that it feels as if the attractions will collide.

In Norse mythology, Loke was the most treacherous and devious of all the giants of Asgard. He cunningly and cold-bloodedly forged plans to kill the kindest and best-loved of the gods, Balder. In April 2017 the battle between the two giants will begin.

Valkyria – the point of no return
Europe’s longest Dive Coaster, with a vertical 50-metre-drop. Just as you are about to go over the edge the ride suddenly pauses. Before you plunge vertically into an underground tunnel at a speed of 105 kph!

In readiness for the 2018 summer season Kanonen will be replaced by Europe’s longest Dive Coaster, a roller coaster that starts with a near vertical drop. Riders sit six abreast in trains that are three rows long, with their legs dangling free. After a 45 degree climb they find themselves at the highest point, 47 metres in the air. Just as the train is about to go over the edge the cars pause, and passengers are suspended in the air for a couple of seconds, before they plummet vertically 50 metres into an underground tunnel at 105 kph.

The name of the roller coaster, Valkyria, is also taken from Norse mythology. A valkyrie was a winged creature whose task was to carry fallen warriors from Middle Earth to the afterlife. And according to Daniel Lindberg, attraction manager, the ride will live up to its name.

“When you are fastened in and then drawn inescapably higher and higher it feels as if you could faint. Then as you hang, stationary, staring down 50 metres straight into the abyss, you are convinced you won’t make it. But after the ride you get a rush of adrenalin and really feel that you are alive!”

A whole new area is taking shapeThe area will gradually take on a completely new look, with a combination of greenery and dramatic features. In addition to the new attractions, investments will also be made in amusements, shopping, restaurants and more places to sit. Because even on the battlefield of Middle Earth there will naturally be a few who would rather watch the bags than throw themselves into conflict.

So they have confirmed that Kanonen will be removed but it doesn't yet seem clear when this will be. All in all very exciting and two good additions to the park. The Dive Coaster is a good 450 feet longer than Oblivion - The Black Hole which is the current longest of these mini models.

How epic does this station building look though?

I have just messaged Liseberg (I am now rapidly arranging a trip there!!) and they have advised Kanonen will remain open for the remainder of this season but will likely be removed end of Summer 2017.

More excited about the Giant Discovery than I am about the Dive Coaster tbh. If it's anything like the one at Tusenfryd then I can see it being considerably better than the 2018 addition!
