UK Scare Events

Since going to scarefest last year, I've realised that I love scare mazes. As a result, I'd like to try more scare events this year. Any recommendations? Looking at tickets for screamfest Burton, but haven't heard much about it. Thanks :)

Never done one myself, I believe the one in Burton was good last year, living quite close a lot of my non-enthusiast friends went and said it was good.

Also heard a lot of great reviews about Tulleys farm in recent years!

Have a great time!

Scare Kingdom is back this year, and has had very good reports in the past, quite a large scare themed attraction, with seven (I think) different attractions. It has won lots of awards in the past.
They got a lot of coverage last year, or maybe the one before, for chasing people round with a large plastic penis.
Strange things happen!
It is on the A59, five minutes drive from J31 on the M6.
Very handy for those who are doing Blackpoo.
I live only a few miles away...on the A666, but haven't got round to doing it yet,
it is very close to a lot of my gardening customers, some have rated it highly.
It also has a horror bar selling cheap northern beer.
It is based in Mrs Dowsons Farm, which makes and sells ice cream, or ice scream for Hallow'een.
Oh how I love that apostrophe.

Best scare attraction in the uk........a walk through London road in Brighton at night, any time of the year. It's just like mordor out of Lord of the rings. Full of orcs.

and it's free!

I find a wander round the back alleyways of central Amsterdam at night can be rather terrifying.

Trust me, I don't think I need to travel very far for anything like that (need I say more than I live in Telford?)

Got tickets for scarefest and screamfest :). Thinking about Thorpe next year, and any others that do well this year. Thanks for the suggestions (well, most of them... @rob666 didn't exactly sell scare kingdom ;))

I'm obsessed with this now. Send help.

Like I said and you said @Leah just walk down the road. Lol. I know it's down the south here, but tullys farm is a good shout if you can get there one year. Busy though.

I did this one last year http://www.screamacres.co.uk

It was fantastic throughout and it's set in a kind of petting zoo which added to the tension. A Llama or some Alpaca made a noise before the zombies came out and we all screamed and ran. It was so tense, well paced and had a lots of variety. The best bit by a country mile was the Jeep journey at the start. It was a military vehicle with us seated in the rear with OSTRs. The guy floored it, did some donuts in a field and then drove us to the secret location with some epic music and a voice-over explaining the virus outbreak.

Definitely worth a visit if you can get to Deeside.

The only awkward thing for me was that I did the zombie run with the same company a week before and they had same zombies for both. I tried to break the tension at screamacres one point by asking one zombie if he enjoyed the run last Saturday. He didn't look too impressed but didn't break character too much.

I would recommend the new scare maze and Lockdown: Sanatorium (zombie survival event) at The Dana Prison in Shrewsbury. ;) Should be something new and exciting for Shropshire!

Twisted Terror Park in Stafford will be worth a visit, the guys at Twisted make some really good (quite hands on!) mazes and it'll be interesting to see their take on a scream park.

Hmm, I wonder why you're plugging that... ;)

Ok just did xtreme scream at twinlakes last night for the first time and it was amazing. 6 mazes and they were all pretty good but my favourites were Ash Hell and Stilton Hotel and Hell Spa.
Deffo will be going next year, can see why scarecon voted it best scare park last year

Me and my friends are planning to go to this. Was it very busy?

@danni87 It wasn't too bad when we went but it was a capital FM preview night, the official opening night was this weekend just gone.

I'd say go whether it's busy or not as the throughput and maze structuring is really good (it was just us two walking around alone 98% of the time), and it is so good that it's definitely worth it, you'll love it.

All I would suggest is wear warm clothes as there is not much warm shelter there, and get there a fair bit earlier than the ticket states as we were there 10 minutes early and the queue to get in was crazy still :)

I had a very enjoyable night at PrimEvil. This was press night so the evening was limited to staff members and friends/relative only with a limit of 500 people attending. So it wasn't as busy as a normal night which was nice.

PrimEvil takes place at the Dinosaur Adventure Park in Lenwade near Norwich. Overall the event is on a limited budget and it shows and it makes you appreciate how good and how much effort and quality of that the likes of Alton Towers/Thorpe park puts into their scare events.

The event takes place at night with good Halloween music playing outside and just inside the main entrance for great atmosphere.

the Event starts outside the entrance in the queue line, with scare actors walking up and down the queue line freaking people out. Also once inside, there are plenty of scare actors walking around. At one point in the evening, all the street walkabout scare actors congregated together to perform a dance to Michael Jackson's Thriller.

There were a couple of food outlets open plus a marquee bar where you can purchase your photograph which was taken outside one of your mazes. There were also a couple of TV screens inside the marquee where you can view guest walking though a section of "The Dark" maze.

There were five Mazes in total, all included in your entry price, upon entering each maze, your ticket is hole punched.

Maze 1 CarnEvil of Terror
This pretty much reminds me of carnival of screams which used to be at Alton Towers. This was more of a fun maze as oppose to a scary one. You first entered through in between two inflatable walls, there were various rooms, one where it was full of doors and you had to open them all to find out which is the correct one to go through. Most of the doors either had a brick wall behind it or a clown mannequin. Sliding doors on the wall which was disguise as a picture frame would suddenly slide open with a bang with a scare actor behind screaming at you. A black room decorated with white face mask, with a scare actor dressed in black covered in white face mask gave a nice illusion effect of floating face masks, you also walked through a trommel tunnel which made you feel very dizzy. You even have to walk through a ball pool and there is a great electric effect using a loud arching sound used in conjunction with a strobe lighting. There are also scare actors hiding in the mazes ready to jump out at you

Maze 2 Mayhem Manor Hotel
This is themed like a Hotel, you enter a fake lift which shakes, the themeing is very basic, Sliding doors on the wall which was disguise as a picture frame would suddenly slide open with a bang with a scare actor behind screaming at you. There was also a trommel tunnel, but this one wasn't working on the day, again there were scare actors around the maze waiting to freak you out. You also walk through the electrical room with fuse boxes and again using the electric effect using a loud arching sound used in conjunction with a strobe lighting.

Maze 3 Zone 64 East Deadwood
This was a zombie maze situated in the parks outdoor maze, yes this is a real maze by day all year round as part of the Dinosaur parks attractions. It is outside in the open air in the woods. There are mannequins position around the maze and you couldn't tell which were mannequins or scare actors. Also you didn't know when a zombie would jump out from behind a tree/bush. The maze finishes of with you being chased our by a zombie with a chain saw.

Maze 4 Forrest of Fear
This maze take you down the parks dinosaur trial which is situated in the woods. There are a few themed areas and camouflage scare actors waiting to pounce on you. There are two sheds, one is were a wolf (on a wheelbarrow) suddenly pushed out at you and another one in the next shed which is a pig. Again you are chased by a actor with a chain saw.

Maze 5 The Dark
This is the only maze where you have to form a conga to go through. This is a indoor maze in pitch black. So dark you can't see you hand in front of you. As you walk through the maze which seems like an eternity. There are things hanging from the ceiling and obstacle to negotiate. The floor is spongy in places. You come to a section where there is some light and there is a door which say's EXIT, you go through the door and you are in another section of darkness. Again this section seems like an eternity and again you have things hanging from the ceiling, soft flooring and obstacles to negotiate. You get to another door with Exit written on it, and yes you guessed it, it leads you into another section of the dark maze. There is also one scare actor in the darkness waiting to scare you. You eventually come to a room with a multiple of doors, only one is the true exit, the others have brick walls behind them.

Zip wire in the dark
This wasn't in operation on the press night, but I'm on the understanding that it will be operating the main nights, but please do check with the park before visiting just in-case. My review on the zip wire is from my experience from last year.
You are sent to the gallows. You are harnessed up and then you walk onto a thin plank which is hinged. The lever is pulled and the plank drops below you, you drop slightly with the plank before sliding down the zip wire through the forest down to the base were there is those large fabric which is blowing upwards by large fans and lit up, giving the illusion of fire.

Overall, I personally didn't find the event scary, probably on the same scale as the Alton Towers scare zones. The effects were very basic, but very effective. I enjoyed the evening, but I wouldn't trape's halfway across the country to visit this event.

Did screamfest last night. While sub species was better than any of their mazes, I think all but children of the corn were better than skin snatchers and TotT. Very good event, and much cheaper than any of the other events I've seen (£12 for all 5 mazes). I'd recommend it.
