PortAventura: General Discussion

The train is very cheap from Barcelona, maybe under a tenner if I remember. If you're looking for offers when in Spain then look on Chupa Chups sweet/lolly multi packs in Spanish supermarkets as they often have offers for the park.

Hello everyone!

Found this site last april, while planning my trip to EP, now I'll be going to PortAventura the last week of august, and I have some questions, if someone can help:

- we'll be arriving at Barcelona Airport and we'll be staying at the Gold River hotel. Is it correct that the Plana Bus stops at this hotel as well? and if not, any suggestions on how to get there?

- about the Caribe Acquatic park, we'll be there the last day of our trip.. we can check out and leave our luggage at the hotel, right? About the small things, like the keys, phone, the money, ecc, there are lockers, right? I've read that they are not very safe... any solutions?

Thank you very much for all the help you can provide!

I'd get a transfer with either your flight or hotel, it's easy to sort through the PA website.
Yes the hotel has a luggage room for your stuff on the last day.
The lockers are perfectly safe at the waterpark and they have loads of them.

Hope that helps at little :)

Wife & I are headed to PortAventura early September, it is the last week the park is open 10am til midnight. We hope to get there around 11am and stay till the bitter end. My question for you guys is, any recommendations on how to make the most of our one day there? We're hoping to make a little youtube vlog of our adventure too.

Looking forward to the drop tower, same height as Busch Gardens Falcons Fury so going to be a huge fear thing for me to get over. I also love the Mexican aspect of the park, and of course... Furios Baco should be ace!

Water park wise, we also decided on Aquopolis over Costa Caribe, did we make the right choice?

I have never been when opening was that late so maybe it will get quieter later in the day but from my experience of Portaventura expect that it will be busy with poor operations and a lot of queue jumping. My advice would be if you want to get on all of the rides and see a few shows then invest in a fast pass!

Also I wouldn't get your hopes up for baco as, much as I enjoyed it, it is a ride very much hated by enthusiasts because of its "horrific roughness" and "blandness" ;)

Damn queue jumpers! Why am I the only one ever at theme parks who seems to call them out on it? XD

Damn, about Baco being rough that was something I struggled with at Blackpool Pleasure beach so that sucks. Rather not have to fork out for a fast pass but I have a 2 day ticket so could also hit what we missed the following evening maybe. Here's hoping that evening riding is pretty quiet! I certainly want to see at least 1 or 2 shows.

Back isn't as rough as people say IMO. It does sound like it has square wheels though. Worth it for the launch :)

If you want smooth run over to shambhala airtime machine and the drop is amazing

Trip Report: I've been and it was pretty good! Rather than right a huge lengthy review I've made one of my usual vlogs about the day so you can see what I saw. I'll put that at the bottom of this post.

The best part for me was that we went just at the end of peak season so the park was open until midnight. We got to ride Shambhala and Dragon Khan in the dark which was just an incredible experience, I love the drop tower as well in the end. There were longer than advertised queues earlier in the day so I think if you went at a time when the park wasn't open so late you might not have had as good an experience as we do.

We managed multiple rides on almost everything except Furious Baco and caught a couple of shows as well. I'll try and put a video of the bird show and the FiestAventura finale show as well sometime within the week.

A brilliant video of PortAventura which captures what its really like to be there with the street ents and atmosphere! Nice to see a happy review of it on here. Makes me want to go back. :)

MAJOR NEW DARK RIDE FOR 2018

Apparently PortAventura World executives have revealed at the Berlin Tourism Fair that a new major dark ride is set to open in PortAventura Park in 2018, replacing the former Sea Odyssey attraction in Polynesia. The new ride is set to take place in the huge Sea Odyssey show building previously home to the infamous Institut Oceanique secret underwater submarine base.

Constructed by Universal Studios in 2000, Sea Odyssey involved visitors of the Institut Oceanique following Sami the dolphin and Octobot on a thrilling submarine simulator ride through the ocean to find the missing Seafari sub. Sea Odyssey was one of PortAventura Parks signature attractions which was much loved by guests and fans. Unfortunately the attraction had to be modified with a new film when PortAventura changed companies.

After a mash-up of unpopular sea-themed films, for the 20th Anniversary PortAventura overlayed the former Sea Odyssey attraction with Ice Age: The Ride, an extremely cheap overlay which saw the existing theming sprayed with snow and Ice Age props made for an unappealing attraction which looked out of place in the building and Polynesia.

It is yet unknown if the attractions simulators will be removed along with the theming or kept to become a part of the new ride in 2018. Due to construction apparently beginning in the near future, Ice Age: The Ride has been removed from the Parks ride line-up and will not be re-opening in the 2017 season.

Well PA does lack a major dark ride so this news is encouraging. Hopefully it will be something totally new that does not utilise the existing ride system.

:)

Poor Sea Odyssey, my vague recollection of my ride of it over a decade ago was one of enjoyable fun...

Let's hope they pull something out the bag here...

Sea Odyssey was an absolutely brilliant attraction. A lot of its charm came from the hidden show building behind the waterfalls in Polynesia, you'd never expect an attraction of its size from the entrance. From start to finish it was an amazing attraction, especially for its time, with second to none theming. Unfortunately it was absolutely murdered when the Seafari film was removed. Here's hoping the new ride lives up to the original Sea Odyssey, but beating a Universal attraction will be tough.

In light of the upcoming naval war against Spain, has there been any word about whether PortAventura will fall directly under the control of the British authorities, and if so what tangible effect this will have on operations?
