Scarefest 2016

I can see where this could be going, and it's not really discussion about Scarefest 2016, so let's get back on topic please!

Thanks.

:)

My run through on Sub Species this year was a lot less intense than last. Got massively lost at one point as well, convinced I ended up in one of the bits the actors use to move around. Fantastic maze, but your experience hinges on how isolated you personally end up, and how much the actors focus on you. Last year I didn't have a second to think, whereas this time I had a fair few moments just wandering round aimlessly in the dark with nobody around.

Very impressed with the theming on Altonville Mine and the way the story was set up by the first couple of actors, but the maze seemed to die out a bit towards the end. Overall though, an improvement on Molly Crowe.

Im just doing a trip report in the TR section... but thought id spread my review of House of Monsters a bit more...

Monster House beckoned us, with no queue, I was wary this was a bad sign.
***SPOILERS WITHIN***
You are met by a Vlogger who has been monitoring a house he's convinced is full of monsters and wants your help to prove it.
You go into the house, he gets 'hypnostised' by the first monster in an amusing fashion, disappears and you're locked in the house -you need to find Ed to get out. All the characters you meet are descendants of the famous monsters of old (Dracula, The Mummy, Frankenstiens Monster et al) so recognisable but not scary.

A couple of entertaining challenge rooms i.e. spell words out on a floor, dress some manakins in costumes and you end up in (my eyes) the best room. A huge, misty greenhouse, with a Mummy running it, who hates the smell of humans. You take a seat, he makes no bones of his dislike for you - getting a child participant and insisting on calling them the wrong name. Insulting peoples hair, and generally being hilarious.
One Parent is called out to be made to 'smell better' (Rich in this case) - theres a hilarious shower scene where he throws bits at them "but not too many because of Brexit".
Eventually he gets bored of you and his plants start to attack - leg tickers and sprinklers!

You get to Eds scene, the final room - his american high school type girlfriend is there. They've um... been... experimenting. He's been shrunk and is missing, queue a room search to find him. Basic magic trick later and he's here, and like Elvis and the Fonz has a love child. He agrees to let you out, and you go off...

To the actual Finale. A proper maze where the monsters are jumping out, popping out of fake wall areas etc. It gives just enough of a scare but with the familiar faces takes out the real scares.

I applaud Towers for taking a risk, its cleverly done and pitched PERFECTLY. Its funny, silly, interactive and just right for families. Its a shame to see it quiet.
The only reason I can think is the price, if you're visiting Scarefest in a group to mazes you all pay individually, so £20 for 3 mazes doesnt seem too bad. Come as a family and £20/£25 for one extra attraction seems a lot. It needs to turn a profit though and cant have been cheap to set up or run - I just hope it gets more attention.

Incredible photos, what camera do you use?
its just an bridge camera (Panasonic FZ150) on manual mode. F8.0, iso 800 between 3 and 15 seconds depending on the photo. I would love a better camera with a larger sensor which would make all of the photos less grainy.

It's been notice that the river rapids has been closing before dark over the last few days. Does this means no more river rapid rides in the dark? Is this due in light of the rapid ride accident in Australia as a precautionary measure? Or an excuse for more cost cutting? Does this mean that the rapids will be closed after dark on the fireworks weekend?

Can anyone shed any more light on this?

They were certainly open in the evening last weekend. I know this year Thorpe don't open their Rapids at night during frightnights but that's been the same since the beginning of frightnights (#CostCutting)

I know that they were open the last few weekends as I've visited the Scarefest every weekend this year so far and I've had plenty of rides on the Rapids in the dark :). The rapids water seems to have so much more turbulence in the dark :)

I just hope this is not the beginning of the end of the rapids opening in the dark :(

Why? Have you seen the ride times during the scarefest? The queues are far from walk-on's and the park has been reasonably busy on all the days I've visited during the scarefest

ITV "This Morning" Should be about 45 to 60 mins in at a guess

A snippet of video from the program can be found on the Mirror or Huffington post links below (same clips on both), but for the full video length, you will have to click on the link above, register if you haven't and then search through the program to find as well as watching those annoying adverts.

Congratulations to Towers. Had a great day at Scare fest on Tuesday. The atmosphere on park was great, the lighting on the towers and 3 of the major coaster's was massively improved, and the staff and actors delivered with great enthusiasm.

They seemed to have a really good gate, with loads of guests, but crowd management was excellent, and attractions were efficiently run, moving the queue lines quickly. Here's hoping that this a sign of improving gate figures.

I've given Merlin some stick where it was deserved, but on the whole scarefest was great and I really enjoyed it.

Now come on Merlin. Get some of those SBNO attractions operating in 2017, get us a water ride to replace the flume and give us a truly great family thrill ride with SW8. If you do that, you will get back to what I have known all along

That AT has been a great theme park and can be again.

There is a reason why I am a fan.

Prove me right!

OOPS, WRONG THREAD. THIS SHOULD BE IN THE SCAREFEST THREAD. AS SOON AS I FIGURE OUT HOW TO MOVE ON A SMART PHONE I WILL ( Unless the Mods beat me to it).

According to the ride times website, the queues are very long tonight and the river rapids ride has again closed for the night

I'm here today, it's packed, probably one of the busiest days I've ever visited. At least I know what day not to go in the future. Nice to see the park doing so well though and I still had a good day overall. :)
