Congratulations To The USA...

I can kind of forgive people who voted out as they probably believed the huge lies that the leave campaign run.

But surely the Americans knew what sort of person Trump is, a racist, a sexist and a pathological liar. I find it hard to believe there are enough ignorant people to vote for him.

I suppose the positives for us are that we won't be known for making the worst political decision of 2016. Farage said he is going to work for Trump in the Whitehouse and the we'll get more dollars for our pounds.

I would say that people cannot be trusted with democracy, but the last person who thought that marched his troops into the Rhineland.

Joking aside, I think it's going to be a very turbulent 4 years for the U.S and indeed the world. :(

These are Armricans we are talking about. I wouldn't have expected anything else.
Bunch of red neck hill billies that like shooting people

The real worry with the Trump presidency is that rights for women, ethnic minorities, disabled and LGBT people will take a hit. It is very likely that they'll look to overthrow same-sex marriage and Roe v Wade (Mike Pence and Trump have spoken already about doing so). Throw in 'The Wall', a now-mainstream rhetoric against the likes of Black Lives Matter, paranoia against Muslims and the repeal of Obamacare, and you have a situation where calling it 'dystopian' isn't an exaggeration.

It's true that Trump may be held back by other Republicans, although as they're now the dominant party everywhere that matters, there's not much reason for him to be restrained. I know many people believe Clinton was just as bad (or worse), but in all honesty she really isn't. Corrupt? Yes. Warmonger? Questionable. But no matter what, the American people believed a complete idiot with six bankruptcies, multiple sexual assault allegations and a short fuse was more deserving of Commander in Chief.

A silver lining could be found if progressives can successfully take over the Democrats, getting rid of the establishment in the party, and we could have a real decent candidate for 2020. Elizabeth Warren's name has already been thrown around by some pundits, who I think would be great. If Trump's presidency goes as badly as I imagine, the Democrats could make some great gains in 2018 as well.

Which highlights the problem with Americas voting system, they should have had more choices. Obama is still popular, if only they allowed a 3rd term.

If you think it's bad now just wait until 3000 where they elect Nixon again and he's head will be in a jar.

Clinton was no better than trump
Clinton was far from a perfect candidate, but anyone, literally anyone, is better than trump.

For arguments sake though, let's just say that their policies are just as bad as each other's. I haven't seen anyone in such a high position of power with such offensive, dangerous opinions since Hitler, and we all know how that went (interestingly, Hitler's ideals were very similar, blaming specific religions and ethnicities for all of the countries problems, whilst also targeting women and any minority groups. somethings seriously wrong when you can compare the president of America to hitler).

He has no experience whatsoever. This is what happens when a billionaire runs out of things to buy. at least Clinton had political experience. why anyone would trust him with nuclear codes...

Add to this that trump has managed to offend nearly every minority group. someone showed me this earlier, which is now my personal favourite example of what type of person he is, in particular the second paragraph.

It's important to remember that not every American who voted for Drumpf was voting because they themselves are racist, sexist, anti-LGBT etc. It is very easy to lump all those voting Republican as being privileged white folk, uneducated rednecks or self serving elitists, when the government has repeatedly ignored cries for help from the rural communities outside the state cities over the last number of decades.

Rural areas that used to have a major business like factories, farms, oil refineries, mines which are now shut have taken massive recession beatings and are in deep seated poverty. Their main sources of income and trade are gone but there's been lacking support from any administration to get them back on their feet. They don't get the same levels of education or maintenance those in urban areas do, hence unsurprising when it turns out they're simple minded or ill educated.

All the attention and funding goes into the densely and diversely populated cities, particularly the central metropolitan districts, where the majority of businesses are now. Gentrification and globalisation is far more profitable in our shiny, technologically advanced, affluent and culturally diverse side of the 21st century than localisation and providing realistic support to poor areas with lacking economies. So, it is no wonder that those out in the smaller towns and rural neighborhoods are disillusioned with the establishment and desire major changes.

And generally speaking, it doesn't help that in government (for the most part), those previously in charge have taken the powerful advantage to cut public spending and important laws/rights, increase taxes, privatise public sectors, take part in international wars and construct false narratives that vilify a certain class, a certain minority, a certain country for their own personal gains (read: wealth and control). Then of course, there's mainstream media which capitalises off the discontent and sensationalises the 'them vs us' narrative even further, creating the nationalist populism we're seeing now, scapegoating innocents whilst ignoring the actual government corruption.

It all feeds back into itself like a horrendous socio-political economic ouroboros and thus creating a situation where neo-fascism has returned for a mainstream encore in the western world. All we can do is give a sarcastic round of applause to neo-liberalism and any elected official in any western government (right and left) whose deplorable decisions since 1945 have trickled down into the year we call 2016.

So, yeah, I do understand why Drumpf has been voted in. Politics is treated as a money making business now so for an elitist businessman, having this level of wealth and control in a first world country is going to be an incredibly lucrative venture. If the government aren't going to listen to or help the citizens that they allegedly serve then getting in this sociopathic and fascist thinking buffoon with no political experience is a wake up call to the horrifying realities of what we thought to be a progressive 21st century.

Can't wait for the next radical left uprising though, it's gonna be a wild revolution

Most of the voting this year is due to people wanting change. They simply don't like so they want changes, however extreme they may be. Currently, people are not enjoying the world politically and have had enough so will vote for trump as oppose to Clinton

Once again, the white middle classes ruined it for everyone else. Whenever something like this happens, it's always the working class that get blamed and the patronising excuses get made for us. But it's usually not the case, and it isn't here.
