There's something seriously, seriously wrong with that list. Where's Toyland Tours?? Also, is it possible to choose the beautiful Towers Street music from early 00s?

I was trying to keep it to ride music you'd find if you stepped on park tomorrow :)

If I was too include all music, I'd be here until next year :D

The Nemesis theme is one of the best crafted of all of them. Those high pitched downward string acciaccatura's imposed over the powerful low droning brass 6ths are absolutely original - I've never heard anything like it anywhere else - it's also one of the most memorable as a leitmotif.

Original? :p The opening notes are the most overused horror cliche, the 'devils interval'. Then just listen to Bernard Hermann's Psycho style strings over the top.

Don't get me wrong though, I still love the piece. Suits the campy 90's like a charm.

The timbre of the Nemesis theme makes it instantly recognisable though, having the fifth followed by the augmented fourth on low (presumably synthesised) brass gives it that Nemesis sound - which I haven't heard anywhere else. Granted the strings alone are quite cliched, but the way they are used to fill in the higher range to compliment the low brass is quite inventive and unique to the theme.

For me it's got to be hex just because of the themeing really fits the ride

Hex is remarkable with its music, no other soundtrack on park has ever made my body tingle and gather goosebumps so much and it's just one of the things that makes the experience so special. The rousing violins and ominous Latin chanting towards the crescendo are just amazing to hear.

I always tend to prefere Oblivion's theme as its just so catchy, I love standing in the station and hearing the music play, I like the saxophone section the best. I often get a little annoyed when the track never plays fully through as the Lord of darkness video cuts in about half way through.

Another favourite of mine would be Air, not so much the end of the theme but about 1/3 of the way in when the bass starts, the environmental speakers in the queue line never give it justice. Does anyone else always hope to walk past the Air queue line entrance just as the bass starts? The Bose Panaray 802's either side really do make the soundtrack sound amazing.

I actually love the way the Hex theme cycles through so many passing modulations (being a music geek) - starts in E minor, A minor, D minor, G# minor, F minor, Bb minor before a clever finishing modulation to Bb major after the scale passage. It really is technically a great composition.

Actually loving the variation of posts - from full on appreciation of the melody and musical genius, to liking it cos it's cool :)

I voted for oblivion as when I first heard/rode it the bass drops made me think of the massive drop that would come in about 30 seconds after you leave the station,I also like air when the bass starts up.

I have to go for Hex, although all the reasons I like it have been discussed. I think Ian touched on it, but I find the Cloud Cuckoo Land theme enjoyable too. It really brings me back to the Towers and captures the magical, quirky, escapism feel of the area perfectly. Maybe it´s because of my secret, undying love for Cloud Cuckoo Land though.

I voted for Nemesis because I do really like that theme the most - very atmospheric and really sets the mood in Forbidden Valley.

But...

I have to admit Hex is better.

Completely agree with you there! The 802's are far superior to the enviromentals. However I wish they'd turn up the 502b's in the station, they pack the best bass! :)

Been thinking about this for hours now. I just couldn't decide between Hex and Nemesis. Both are technically great, composition wise Hex wins hands down, a very polished peice of music. For me I think the raw, harsh Nemesis theme stirs up more emotion over the Hex theme. I can appreciate majestic and rousing themes such as Hex's but in general if it's orchestral music I like it dark and sinister and rough. You'll always catch me liking the bad guy theme from a film soundtrack over the good guy theme lol. I'll vote for Nemesis, Hex very very close second.

Predictably I went for Hex for most the same reasons as previously explained better by other people ...

HOWEVER !!

I do put it forward that Hex has an unfair advantage.... Its smell !!!

Whenever I hear the soundtrack it does more than just stimulate my hearing senses it also puts me in that place where I get engulfed into the atmosphere and smell of the ride and nostalgia takes over. Add in the visuals and the motion it creates and it just has so much power. For an open minded first time rider it really has a lot of impact on a sensory level.

The music goes a long way to compliment and surround the whole experience. I bet you can all smell that smell right now and close your eyes and see those colours too.. Very powerful.

In a very similar position is Tomb Blaster at Chessington for the same reasons, it has all 3 elements Visuals , Smells and a good soundtrack..

Nemesis is just epic from its whole story to the very eerie tones it has and the impact of a voice like Tom Baker ...

In fact that adds a 4th element to Hex .... The voice of Jim Carter

Sorry for the double post but it would not let me modify my original...

Crispin Merrell who composed the Hex theme has a website which features a version of the Hex theme in its original state that is very good quality. Just scroll down the player to find the track called "The Hex" you can also hear other music he has created here..

Yeah I persuaded him to email me the mp3 a few years back, which he did. However my external hard drive has well and truly bust meaning I no longer have it, along with a lot of other Alton Towers media. Hopefully someone else still has it?

That original music sounds much more real and live compared to the final peice when it has been edited around.

Nice find :)

Has to be thirteen for me as it was composed by john sanderson............ who was my music teacher for a couple of years in 95/96. Pit stop productions its called.

I was contemplating voting for Duel because that music is so catchy and really adds to the experience. But I voted for Hex because it really is very good ;D
