My first trip to Alton Towers in 20 years

This is my first (second) post on here.

On Monday (Halloween) I did return to Alton Towers for the first time in 20 years.
I was only able to do this because a) I got a lift to the park and b) I found a gold voucher in a Cadbury's ghooost egg.
This voucher, which I found on the ninth of October - a Sunday, entitled me to four tickets to the park for the Scarefest event.

Now I almost never win, or find, anything this good, so I was made up. And it just so happened that I was off that week from work (holiday). So I was double made up.

After weeks of waiting the day finally arrived and I was off to the best theme park in Staffordshire, imo.

However we left not early enough and got lost more than once on the way to the park.

After what felt like an eternity we made it to the resort and I was in two halves about this.

Half of me was ecstatic more than mere words could say and the other half of me was devastated.

We chose the ultimate wrong day to visit. The place was heaving. And I dislike people at the best of times.

But I tried to not let this get to me and enjoy the day. Which was almost over before it started. As we approached the turnstiles I realised that I didn't have thee most crucial thing: the tickets!

However after a frantic search I found them.

We were in! And it was full of people. But I tried to ignore this and we went on our first ride: the Sonic Spinball Whizzer. I was caught unawares as to how terrifying the ride made me feel and I let out a deafening shriek which would turn out to be my last.

After that I kept my lips, and sometimes my eyes, firmly shut. We went on ride after ride. The Smiler. Oblivion. Enterprise (big mistake, huge). Then we had some nasty hot dogs. And then walked to Rita. Then, after an intermission, we went on Thirteen (50 minute waiting time) whilst waiting in the queue for the ride I suddenly remembered why I hadn't been back to the park for 20 years.

The final ride of the night (I didn't want to wait 60 minutes for Galactica) Nemesis. The only ride I remember going on on previous visits.

We left earlier than planned. River rapids closed early. The mine train was queuing too much.

I had hoped to stay til 9 but the person I went with put the kibosh on that hope.

I agree with not queueing 60 minutes for Galactica. Air was a much better ride. VR headsets don't work on a roller coaster. There's much better applications for the technology. A great shame because even if you want to just ride it without the headset, it's still a far longer queue than it used to be.

Aside from that, it sounds like you didn't have the best experience you could have. Is it that you failed to plan your trip well enough, or that you simple don't like rides very much? Or both?

60 minutes for Galactica is a waste of time. My friends made me queue it and it was not worth it, especially when you get a faulty headset!

Will you be returning anytime soon?!
