What developments will happen after 2018?

2020 will be the park's 40th anniversary. Most parks do something big for a year like that, but then again most parks open after 4pm o_O

Maybe we will see something like this - complete with full 10 plus minute original, orchestral score?

How dare you say FV is a bad area of the park, It's propbably the best themed area, best area for world-class attractions and the best area for food.(In the park obviously)

I said it was nowhere near its best, not bad.

With Ripsaw demolished replaced by a piece of inflatable tat, Sub-Terra fenced off, The Blade on its last legs and two roller-coasters with polar opposite clashing themes the area makes no sense. I mean what is it meant to be these days, a post-apocalyptic landscape or a space age virtual reality area? At least AIR had a neutral theme with some continuity with the rest of the area.

The Rollercoaster Restaurant is quality and is one of the few decent investments the park has made recently, but it is overpriced and really belongs near the hotels and not inside the theme park as it is stylised and NOT themed. It just won't be a viable option for most visitors due to price and the need to book in advance. The rest of the food options are mediocre and barely offer a proper meal - a generic coffee shop, burger bar and a donuts stand.

In fact I would go as far as saying FV has never been worse for food options - with the loss of Fish & Chips, Ripsaw Cafe and even further back the Nemesis Nosh, there is nothing in the area for the average day visitor who won't want to spend the time or money in the Rollercoaster Restaurant.

Apart from Nemesis itself the rest of the area is a shambles. It's two rides with totally different themes and nothing in the middle to hold it together. There's no immersion, coherence or variety.

Also not to mention no Nemesis shop. The one ride which you would want to buy merchandise and there is no shop.

I think Forbidden Valley and X Sector were both in a good place in 2013, with two major coasters each, plus two (three in FV's case) filler rides. It's a shame we had to lose the three strongest filler attractions in both areas combined, whilst keeping the weakest two (yes, I am including Submission in the "strongest" group :p).

Dark Forest has always been worse attraction wise as there were only ever two big coasters. Even during its heyday in 2010, it always felt like it was missing a flat ride (or two). This is why, if only one new flat were to be installed at Towers ever again (which is unlikely), it'd make most sense for it to go in Dark Forest.

Moving the main entrance to the hotel area, and building up the facilities there seems likely to be the next major change. Removing the monorail has long being an aim.
Extending the waterpark has also been on the cards for a while too, so that seems likely.

Adding shows, on street entertainment and extenting opening hours into the evenings would be the best way to improve the park experience.

Were they not planning to move the entrance to by Duel?

I doubt they will ever move the main entrance now.

A second entrance and entertainment hub at the end of Forbidden Valley is likely in the coming decade or so but not a complete relocation.

I mean what would be the point? Losing the amazing view upon entering the park as well as abandoning the main established entrance infrastructure to free up an area of the park that they wouldn't be able to build anything substantial on anyway?

Makes no sense.

Bradley Wayne has updated his LinkedIn profile to include a 2019 attraction coming to Alton Towers, however this could be a Cbeebies Land expansion or a CCL retheme but at the minute it could be anything for all we know.

From reading Bradley's LinkedIn profile, his work history doesn't inspire with me confidence that Alton Towers has the creative leadership it needs!

He seems to have only six years experience in the industry, and yet juggles Towers' projects with the same job for Heide Park.

*sobs*

These are a few ideas that (from various infomation and previous trends) might happen after SW8:
  • Retheme CCL
  • Expansion of Cbeebies land (possibly with the removal of Spinball)
  • The removal of Blade (possibly Enterprise and Toadspool too)
  • SW9 in the location in forbidden valley where SW8 was going to be.
  • More lodges
  • Changing of entrance site and meaning the removal of the monorail
  • A new dark/ water ride?

I would imaging the spoil from SW8 being used for the bunds would be part of an environmental impact clause in the SW8 planning consent conditions.

They may become part of a screen if they move parking onto this area in the future.

Towers post SW8:

What I'd like to see:
  1. Modern flume similar to Chiapas for Cloud Cuckoo or Forbideen Valley (somewhat)
  2. Redevelopment of Cloud Cuckoo into a family area retheme Charlie, plus the addition of another major one on Coaster Corner.
  3. An increase of entertainment, street entertainers, a major stage show or two, parade.
  4. Some new flats. I.E polyp, Star Shape and modern top Spin.
What we are more likely to see:
  1. Further expansion to CBeebies land (2019 wouldn't be surprising)
  2. More accommodation (Enchanted Village Phase 3 & Cbeebies hotel expansion)
  3. Removal of Blade & Enterprise without replacement
  4. SW9 to utilise yet another dark theme and another far fetched USP.

What I would see happening :
  1. Removal of spinball whizzer as SW8 will be a family coaster and spinball has caused lot's of problems.
  2. Expansion of cbeebies onto the new land
  3. re-theme of CCL
  4. Demolition of sub terra
  5. New dark ride for the charlie and the chocolate factory building
  6. Removal of blade
  7. New replacement flats

Could be in preparation for something though, we'll just have to wait and see.

The planning application says what it is about...

"In 2009 Alton Towers Resort provided a Long Term Plan that... that stated that improvements at the Resort ‘....would involve new (replacement) parking areas with enhanced landscaping’ on the meadows area (Fields M, N and O)."

Its the early phases of moving the Southern Car Parks north, that the 2009 plan detailed for completion by 2014. So 3 years behind schedule.

The planting will be left a few years before anything major happens (e.g tarmac), but its a positive sign that there are still long term plans for expansion.

I don't believe they will ever complete the long term plan goals now, was a nice idea but yea, moving the entrance, landscaping car parks and all that. Never going to happen

I dont really see any point in moving the entrance apart from using the land that Towers Street is on for rides considering it is I believe dedicated amusement park land. I highly doubt there will be any substantial investment into the car parks.
