2017: Voletarium

This is not official but it looks like we have a name for Project V - Voletarium - Sky Explorers. Michael Mack liked a post on Twitter which referred to the attraction by this name and a logo has been leaked:

EP have also shared these images:

Looks like things are progressing nicely, there's some lovely detail in those photos. I really like the logo as well!

Also, the final bit of filming for the film has been completed in France today.

:)

The theming! Is that a vaulted ceiling?

I like the name. It is classy.

Vol is the part of the word Voler in French, the verb to fly.

I really really want Alton to strip duel completely and make a flying theater there. They are decent at getting good story lines and imagine how good it could be. I hope Europa keep up this quality and maintain this title of them leading the industry. They are doing such a great job!

I don't, really.

V is looking wonderful, but at the end of the day it' s a flying theatre.

I much prefer a transit system dark ride, so on that basis I would rather see Duel refurbished/redone.

@AstroDan Really? Problem with merlin and dark rides is they cant keep them up, maintain them well or keep effects working for longer than 6 months. With a screen ride, at-least there's quite little that they can cut back on. If they redo duel like you say, it would probably be good until the effects stop working and dont get renewed. I could however see them doing something like kong at universal Orlando, where there is alot of screens inside the dark ride, but still, special effects & merlin..

In all fairness, they did a good job so far in keeping the mist in the smiler working.

I am not for one minute suggesting that Duel is a comparable quality of attraction or experience to what Projekt V will be. Clearly, Duel is a shadow of its former self. However, I would take the original Haunted House over something like Soarin' - any day. In fact, I would happily visit Epcot and not go on Soarin'. Admittedly, the theming on V looks far more substantial, plus the film looks better and the queues will no doubt be far less. But if I was ranking indoor/dark rides in Orlando from best to worse, Soarin' would be, for me, in the lower half.

Im not suggesting that either, my suggesting is that the UK, specifically alton, need a modern dark ride which is reliable and constantly at top notch. Hex is probably the closest we will get unless they do something amazing with duel. Soarin' is one of disneys weakest dark rides to be honest, it looks good but its so cheap when you begin to think, theming to corridors and a some suitcases ect. isnt good enough, Europa park have took is about 10 steps further, and that will probably open up alot more possibilities for any other park chain looking at the ride.

That idea is where merlin come in, decent price to run, marketable, and doesnt need loads of staff. Duel is quite like that but they can barely market it, and the inside is full of broken scenes and bland cheap Halloween "theming". I never did the origianal haunted house to my memory, but im sure if alton did re-brand duel in any way, it would most likley be to an IP now, which is why I worry the future of duel, and would much rather have a flying theater. Anyways, dont want to flood the forum with alton towers future because alton have a looooong way to go to be EP's standard, this attraction looks to be a step further than EP was previously, building looks phenomenal!

EPFans have uploaded a new update showing Project V and the surrounding area.

http://www.ep-fans.info/?id=4734&lang=&PHPSESSID=2180619e7ac229390c6a2cbee88cd665

The update shows some new paving on Deutsche Allee, the exit taking the place of the old statue/fountain and also some of the internal themeing, ride system and screens.

Looking at the pictures of the screens being installed really gives a good perspective of the scale of these - they are massive! Also interesting to see that the ride seats are almost identical to Soarin even if the loading system is different.

A third confirmation of a June opening for Project V came today in the Clubcard email (albeit it actually says June 2018!). This follows the same information from the Coaster Crate interview with the park and the advertisement at the back of the Clubcard brochure for this year. I think this pretty much settles the question over intended opening.

I will be interested to see if there are any soft openings given they seem reasonably well progressed. Plus a little self-interest of visiting at the end of May.

Just did a translate and something along the lines of this:

An attraction they have never experienced before
An attraction that is truly unique in its kind

Bottom bit is French. Love the name, lets hope the ride lives up to it.

"An attraction which you have never experienced before." Literal translation, anyway.

"An attraction which you* have never experienced before." Literal translation, anyway.
Does that "theoretically"* include people who have been to EPCOT? ;)

* Not me, but I'm sure EP understand that they are competing with coaster geeks from around the world here.
