Do we have any empirical indication to the length of this thing yet? It's the one thing that's stopping me getting excited for this, frankly.

If you're worrying about the length of the ride - just think of how short Nemesis is. And it's still one of the best coasters in the world.

Definitely 'hoping' for quality over quantity on this ride.

AT has been craving a quality coasters without gimmicks for years. Just a solid coaster that is a consistent crowd puller and that doesn't have to rely on a world's first to gain any credit.

Towers adding construction viewing windows for a new coaster!? Wow, whatever next! Maybe we will get a full animated POV once the ride is officially announced!

:)

There's no point hiding it you can see it from the sky ride an from the Rapids queue.
I would say that the USP of this coaster will realistically be a theming thing. This will mean that by the time the coaster has finished construction it will be closed season then they can get up to working their magic without us knowing.

Theming during closed season, hmmm covering it in vinyl make it look pretty :)

That concept for the vekoma booster bike sounded really cool that would've been much better in dark forest than Rita and they could have some flats.
It would be cool if we got a decent duel TLC to go along with SW8 and a CCL re-theme or upgrade in a few years.

Well I can see how it will be 'ground-breaking'.

The first turn around.

A clear shot of one of the drops.

Station progression.

From TS Facebook.

Every time I see construction pictures now, It gets me excited. You can clearly see how the layout will go. And I must say since I saw the area back on opening day, a few weeks ago, construction is pacing quickly. It looks nothing like The Flume's station/final drop area now! Oh and I forgot to say the landscaping looks great too!

Maybe. But the problem is Dark Forest isn't even a forest (stupid merlin), and nor is it dark. Also I think the concept for that coaster came about long before Ug Land was rethemed to Dark Forest, and maybe even before Rita was built.

Indeed.

Th13teen was very much designed before they even tbought about the area.

At one stage, they'd not even got a budget to retheme Ug Land.

When said budget came, it was so small... hence the poor quality.

This sound probable. I reckon we could see a re-theme of gloomy wood or rename the area because of the similarity to dark forest. I could see a lighter theme for SW8 with some kind of strange house that's in the country idea for duel.

Except SW8 won't be part of gloomy wood next year regardless of what this years map shows, so don't go expecting any retheme of gloomy wood and duel anytime soon.

Please people. This new ride will be nowhere near Gloomy Wood (relatively). Give it up. The entrance is in/near to Mutiny Bay. Wake up and look at the facts.
Thing is, the map just doesn't accidentally happen. For whatever reason, the map artist(s) have clearly listed the SW8 development under Gloomy Wood. One assumes they're told what to create and don't just assume anything themselves. And if they know the park and did assume, then they'd just assume what we all had and put the development under Mutiny Bay or Katanga Canyon.

Putting the development under Gloomy Wood obviously isn't an accident and I'm pretty sure if it was incorrect, it would have been corrected before the 2017 map was approved.

I don't understand why the speculation police on the forums get so wound up when they themselves are just as clueless as the rest of us. Why should it bother anybody if others have expectations and ideas and are vocal with them? Surely as long as you yourself don't get carried away with speculation (if doing so and being wrong bothers you), why care if others do?

What's the point of discussing a future ride we don't know the facts about 100% yet, if we can't speculate and wonder about the end product? May as well just talk about soil, diggers and viewing windows.

It's just not going to be part of Gloomy Wood though. You surely can't expect people to not mention that fact at any point in the coming many months when people suggest it?

I cannot believe people are actually still banging on about SW8 being in Gloomy Wood. :banghead:

Here are 3 reasons why this waste of server database has to stop:
  1. Look on Google Maps - Mutiny Bay and Gloomy Wood are so far apart they may as well be at opposite ends of the park.
  2. Look at the plans for SW8, it's part of Mutiny Bay.
  3. Look at the numerous construction photos and videos. The MB side is fenced off, as they bring construction near the MB footpaths. Exactly where the entrances to The Flume were. No construction is going on anywhere near Gloomy Wood.
It's nice to speculate about future developments but this is getting ridiculous. I swear I'm going to have a thrombo if I keep reading this topic.

"Thrombo"

Can't say I was ever taught that Internet forums affected the viscosity of blood but you learn all the time I guess...

As much as I agree the ride is incredibly unlikely to be in gloomy wood, the terse and almost rude replies aimed at those perfectly reasonable discussions is a bit off putting really. I'm not on the team these days so I will aim not to backseat moderate but the damn thing is on a map, you might severely doubt the fact presented (as do i) but you can't criticise people for discussing something clearly written on public documentation by the park.

Sure discuss the reasons why it's not going to be the case but calling people "ridiculous" is getting extreme.

It's not like they are discussion something as stupid as a washing machine element is it

In my opinion, it was simply a space issue possibly combined with the last minute idea to list it at all. Check the 17 map and see the MB box full of names and GW obviously being rather empty.

thrombo
Essentially the same as having an eppy - preferrably in a public place.

The process to describe intense freaking-out that can lead to a full-on thrombosis, especially if left un-mocked.

Come on, you know that would have been epic. After the gimmicky drop track of Th13teen it was perfectly feasable to have a rotating track piece in order to forever hold the world record for inversions.

Speculation of SW8 being in Gloomy Wood is ridiculous because a number of hard facts prove it won't be.

I agree it won't be in gloomy wood for all the reasons you mention, but I find it hard to criticise people for ignoring "hard facts" when the damn thing is written on the park map.
