The World of David Walliams: General Discussion

I know they are not allowed to build coasters on the old coaster corner but how great would it be to open that area up including the flag tower some how. A whole new area in place of ccl!

Unfortunately lots of this area is currently used by Merlin Magic Making and as a general backstage area. I don't know where would be a feasible place to relocate all of this to.

A Boomerang would be too tall and a Disk-o has no throughput at all (see Kobra or Airbender) not to mention the fact that they are a terrible ride experience as well. I still think a boat ride retheme (4th theme) for CATCF, a flume, return of the Toadstool, some use for the buildings (return of a soft play area, maybe some unmanned attractions like Nina's) with driving school down the far end. Theme wise? Not too sure tbh, Nicole's suggesting of an entire carnival theme might work
Whilst I'd not want one, Disk-O throughput would probably be OK hidden up in that corner.

No way will we get CATCF retheme and a Flume though.

Anything that would generate screams, I would imagine, would be unsuitable for that area.

Wouldn't Charlie take very little investment to kit out and market as a 'new' ride though? I couldn't imagine them wanting to leave such a quick win vacant for too long?

With Charlie there is still a fair bit of empty warehouse there (since the shop and party room plans from 2006 were dropped), and you also have the two lifts. So whether any of that is used or not, or the boat ride is extended, I imagine it won't be as cheap as retheming and reopening the ride as is. Unless they really want to do a cheap job of it, which would be a bit odd given the potential use of space.

It wouldn't be a bad idea if they extended the boat ride with a small lift and drop, then a big finale room. Then use the remaining space for an exit shop.

Just reusing the full boat route and retheming it to Gruffalo standard would be fine by me. I think Towers underestimate how much a good quality dark ride of this nature is needed.

EDIT- Note I said Gruffalo Standard and not Gruffalo themed.

I get where you are coming from, A boomerang wouldnt be to tall, because theres so much you can do with it, I wouldnt want them to get the same one as drayton manors down the road, they could litrally get away with getting a tiny version. Anyways, out of all the areas in the park, CCL is the one where they can build pretty high in as all around it is blocked, Yeah theres a hiss behind it so you cant skim the tree line like oblivion but they could get away with 40-50 feet which is more than enough for a jr boomerang. This would also offer a ride similar to the RMT which is needed with towers, although I think SW8 will fill that gap.

The disc-o now you mentioned throughput is probably not the best idea for towers, however according to wikipedia the model with 40 seats can get a throughput of 1000 people per hour, which is enough for towers. I cant imagine it being as much of a draw to attraction like cobra at chessington. Im not a fan of the carnival theme its something that drayton manor could get away with though, towers I for 1 expect either a strong and original theme now days, or a good IP themed area, Whatever they do though. I just hope they do try like as a whole merlin has done pretty good latley, so I do trust whatever they do with CCL in the future. Still think it will be about 5 years till they start any work there though.

*Sighs almost as loudly as I did when the GE was announced*

This community derides and ridicules Merlin for being unimaginative and going for the simplest of options. Now the aspiration is a ride that Drayton installed half a decade ago and one of the most common flat rides since the Pirate Ship...

Give me strength.

They might be able to work around that problem by building some sets at the back of the site like the did at the back of the scorpion express at Chessington. As long as it was noise dampening it could prevent the noise issue. If it was a family coaster it would make little track noise and it could be filled with sand. Could have a silent lift hill.
I think a family coaster is the most they would put there and some flat rides, water rides and a refurb of CaTCF into a new dark ride.

If they really have to use an I.P when they come to retheme CCL, I think a Dreamworks Studios area would work well.

CATCF could become the Dreamworks Studio Tour featuring scenes from various movies, this would then make the attraction futureproof as they could chop and change scenes when new movies get released.

The 4D cinema could be reopened either as it currently is with a new film, or, they could have an indoor show similar to the Madagascar show at Chessington.

I think this would be a much better idea than theming the area to just one I.P, I'm just not entirely sure how viable this would be.

I wonder if there would be some caution in using the Charlie ride system for a 'new' headline dark ride once again.

That ride would be 38 years old in 2019 and its capacity is perhaps not what would be required for something even half as popular as the Gruffalo.

I agree, the compromise would be to somehow retrofit a newer transit system into the existing hardware if possible.

The thing is, if it all works ok, I cannot see them replacing the current system unless it is absolutely necessary; regardless of possible throughput issues.

They will look for the most cost effective way to re-package it and sell it as a new attraction.

I agree. something like that would be perfect for CCL but there is no way I can see that happening, certainly not in one single investment anyway. I'd imagine initially we will see an area re-theme with Charlie transformed into a new IP boat ride. Then I'd like to think they might expand into coaster corner down the line with the inclusion of a new log flume. A new flume ride should be right at the top of Towers' new ride priority list!

:)

it would be awsome to have an adventure time theming highly unlikely though.

Im going enchanted village theming cause its near sky ride near the dark forest defo would would great either way the spinball wizzer could be relocated here or will be removed cause ceebies lands getting out of control and theres no mid thrill area just katanya cannyon appologys for my spelling Im no genius

rob just seeing your comment that wouls be great with the enchanted village idea

I'm fairly sure a Dreamworks themed area was on the cards when they were looking at options for the CBeebies area before the BBC deal was chosen. I agree it would be great, but can't see it happening myself.

Yeah I was thinking about this the other day, wasn't there a time when some storage (belonging to Merlin Studios) was found open in the Towers, and it had a full Shrek mould and other dreamworks elements.

2011 when we got nothing, Storybook Land/The Farm was meant to become DreamWorks area
