Isn't Up To Now a compilation?

Says the one with a live album...

Starting to feel bad for leaving out The Bends, Echoes and The Final Cut, amongst others...

It is indeed, but I hate deciding between Eyes Open and A Hundred Million Suns, so I just settled for my favourite ones which are complied onto Up To Now.

It can be any album, by any artist of any genre at all- but no best of albums or live albums please.

But you're not allowed. ;)

Then this topic is torture.

But then it's not about albums, it's about collections of songs. ;)

In that case I could say my favourite albums are my playlists in my ipod. ;)

4. Animals (Pink Floyd)
5.Wish you Were Here (Pink Floyd)

I'll give it to you, ONCE. Only because it's such a (bleep) to fix.

How about you create a list of artists I CANNOT STAND, and then right there albums next to them. Seriously though, OC, Green Day, blink-182, SNOW PATROL!!! Paramore's OK, and you can probably guess why ;)

You're partially saved at the end.

And Blaze, your list reeks epic.

After going to study music at university, my music taste has gone rather strange and eclectic. Mainly due to the fact that I tend not to really listen to any albums anymore, but mainly soundtracks, operas and symphonies. So this will be hard for me. I'm only going to do five normal albums, and then I'll do a list adding soundtracks to the list so you can see where they rank above other things.

1. Lamb of God - Ashes of the Wake
2. Take That - Beautiful World
3. Sigur Ros - Takk
4. Dream Theater - Metropolis Pt. Scenes from a Memory
5. Caravan Palace - Caravan Palace

Now with the soundtracks.
1. John Powell - How To Train Your Dragon (easily one of the the most incredible soundtracks ever made, and up there with some of the best compositions in history. Utterly outstanding!
2. Alan Menken - Hunchback of Notre Dame (like above)
3. Lamb of God - Ashes of the Wake
4. Mahito Yokota & Koji Kondo - Super Mario Galaxy
5. Take That - Beautiful World

I must add this is when I have time to listen to music. Usually when I'm walking from A to B. I never really have time after that as I'm working in the industry performing this that and the other.

Since I've never really thought about the ranking of my favourite albums, this has been really quite tricky.

1. Ágætis Byrjun - Sigur Rós
2. Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven - Godspeed You! Black Emperor
3. We're Here Because We're here - Anathema
4. ( ) - Sigur Rós
5. Red - King Crimson
6. Larks' Tounges in Aspic - King Crimson
7. Kid A - Radiohead
8. Asleep in the Back - Elbow
9. Animals - Pink Floyd
10. Weather Systems - Anathema
11. Ok Computer - Radiohead
12. Origin of Symmetry - Muse
13. Valtari - Sigur Rós
14. Abbey Road - The Beatles
15. Discipline - Kind Crimson
16. The Dark Side of the Moon - Pink Floyd
17. Missa Atropos - Gazpacho
18. Takk... - Sigur Rós
19. Bon Iver - Bon Iver
20. In Rainbows - Radiohead
21. In Absentia - Porcupine Tree
22. The Hawk is Howling - Mogwai
23. Under the Iron Sea - Keane
24. Helplessness Blues - Fleet Foxes
25. The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway - Genesis
Not sure if I am quite happy with it though, if it keeps bugging me I may have to revise my choices a bit.

^ Now this is a great list. Ágætis Byrjun is a top album. Jonny, try Spirit Of Eden by Talk Talk. It's similar to a lot of the post-rock albums on your list. I think you'd really enjoy it. :)

Cool topic. Done the best I can, but no doubt I've missed loads of my favourites and organisation is roughly about right - I guess. I will probably make edits if that's OK so maybe you could not count mine until after the deadline?

23. From Here to Infirmary - Alkaline Trio
24. Norfolk Coast - The Stranglers
25. The Dance - Faithless

I couldn't think of 24 albums that I would call my "favorites" so I only have 14, I'm afraid.

1) American Idiot - Green Day
2) A Fever You Can't Sweat Out - Panic! At The Disco
3) Sinners Never Sleep - You Me At Six

Thank you Sam! I will definently take a look at that album when I get the chance this evening. :)

Yikes... This is a bit difficult as my favorites tend to move around on week to week basis depending on how I feel at the time, oh well I'll give it a shot anyway.

  1. Kid A - Radiohead
  2. Radio-Activity - Kraftwerk
  3. In Rainbows - Radiohead
  4. The Man Machine - Kraftwerk
  5. OK Computer - Radiohead
  6. The Wall - Pink Floyd

  10. Elephant - White Stripes
  11. Sail Away - Randy Newman
  12. The Martyr - Immortal Technique
  13. The Idler Wheel Is Wiser Than the Driver of the Screw and Whipping Cords Will Serve You More Than Ropes Will Ever Do - Fiona Apple
  14. Moon Safari - Air
  15. Computer World - Kraftwerk
  16. Dog House Music - Seasick Steve
  17. The Beatles (The White Album) - The Beatles
  18. Alive 2007 - Daft Punk
  19. Tracy Chapman - Tracy Chapman
  20. Graceland - Paul Simon
  21. Speed of Darkness - Flogging Molly
  22. iLL Manors - Plan B
  23. Gorillaz - Gorillaz
  24. Sunny Side Up - Paolo Nutini
  25. Salon Des Amateurs - Hauschka

Can't help but feel dissatisfied with my choices as it's only a snapshot of where I'm at the moment. Oh well, I guess that's just the nature of these kinds of things.

Prepare for my horrible music taste ;)

5. Endgame - Rise Against
Although you could argue this for all of Rise Againsts albums, there's such a wide array of messages hidden within these songs - Tim McIlrath is known for putting his political and moral views out there. Topics covered on this album range from international aid to homophobic bullying.

4. Only By The Night - Kings Of Leon
Although the majority of people only know the album for Sex on Fire and Use Somebody, its loaded with hidden gems which I love.

3. A Beautiful Lie - 30 Seconds to Mars
My favourite band. A lot of the songs on here beat songs from my number one, but there's just something it seems to be lacking. There's a few songs which don't quite hit me the way others on the album do, which probably brings it down a little. Still great.

2. American Idiot - Green Day
I've seen this on several peoples lists, and rightly so. Tells a great story and keeps pace all the way through. One of the modern greats.

1. This Is War - 30 Seconds to Mars
Back to 30STM, and my favourite album, obviously. Other than the filler at the very start and very end (although I'm not sure they're intended to be songs as such, merely an introduction and ending to the album), there's not a single song I dislike.

1. In The City - The Jam
2. Ogdens' Nut Gone Flake - Small Faces
3. Unknown Pleasures - Joy Division
4. Who's Next - The Who
5. OK Computer - Radiohead
6. Doolittle - Pixies
7. Coming Up - Suede
8. Sound Affects - The Jam
9. Thriller - Michael Jackson
10. Kid A - Radiohead
11. The Doors - The Doors
12. Is This It - The Strokes
13. London Calling - The Clash
14. This Year's Model - Elvis Costello
15. Californication - Red Hot Chili Peppers
16. Stanley Road - Paul Weller
17. Neon Bible - Arcade Fire
18. Modern Life is Rubbish - Blur
19. The Stone Roses - The Stone Roses
20. Siamese Dream - Smashing Pumpkins
21. Travelling Without Moving - Jamiroquai
22. Elephant - White Stripes
23. The Libertines - The Libertines
24. Our Love To Admire - Interpol
25. 1977 - Ash

Tomorrow it would be a totally different 25 or those still in it would be in a completely different position.

Moley, your excellent taste in music has reminded me that I've missed loads out of my list...

Have you heard the first two Elbow albums Blaze? Really great stuff, if a bit more low-key, probably my favourite of Elbow's work. :)
I have, I was considering including all three of their pre-TSSK albums, but didn't want it to turn into a list of their albums, so went for just one. It was really hard to choose which one, but went with Leaders because it seems to have a bit more 'get up and go' about it, not really more confident as such, because they all feel confident, but there's something about Leaders that feels different and makes me like it slightly more than Asleep In The Back, which is one of my favourite début albums. I know Cast Of Thousands tends to be the fan favourite, but I'd actually put it third. :p

Per-lease, you hipsters, liking Elbow before they got famous. I prefer the more recent stuff tbh. ;)
