Thorpe Park - Temporary shipping container hotel to be built - The Crashpad

Re: Thorpe Park - Temporary shipping container hotel to be built

um... Why?

Unless Thorpe are planning to host a small festival.

They are already creating club nights (which ruin a normal visit for an ordinary guest from what I have been told) perhaps the next step is to create a small festival.

It does say temporary. I doubt you can call yourself a resort with very temporary accommodation!

Re: Thorpe Park - Temporary shipping container hotel to be built

The cost per night of Snoozeboxes seems to vary from £80 to £170 per room per night...

Based on 2 adults, that's not cheap. I don't think TP could get away with anything much over £80 or 2 adults, given that their average clientele aren't going to be wishing to spend a load of money on a simple hotel room.

Re: Thorpe Park - Temporary shipping container hotel to be built

It looks rubbish, and will probably only be full when they throw their club nights...

I'd rather a Travelodge really, least you can spin a cat in there, there's no room in these things and there will be barely anything for people to do after park close as mentioned... Let alone the overall logistics of ensuring people don't bugger off into the park in the middle of the night (which considering the clientele of Thorpe, would not be surprising)...

Just might as well save the money and invest it into some important aspects of the park, such as general maintenance and fixing up Samurai...

Re: Thorpe Park - Temporary shipping container hotel to be built

Does anyone know if this will be ran by Merlin/Thorpe, like the Alton hotels, or will it be ran by Snoozeboxes?

In terms of doing things at night, I suppose you could say the same about staying in a travelodge that doesnt have a bar (which many of them dont), you simply go out and explore the area or you stay in your room.

This looks like it could be a good temporary solution before they (inevitably) build a hotel in the nearish future... However, staying inside a shipping container structure inside a Merlin park... Does this signal the apocalypse?

Thing is they want a temporary hotel before they build the real thing. A Travelodge is now temporary. For what they want this seems perfect, you're not going to be able to get a temporary hotel with massive rooms and so on. This has good looking rooms, should be relatively cheap (I hope) and is very easy to put up and then take down.

And in regards to the what to do issue. It is an issue I agree but as Michael has pointed out there is nothing to do at a lot of Travelodges, many of them don't have a bar and aren't exactly next door to where evening activities can be found. If Thorpe did keep the dome open later there would at least be somewhere to have a drink and socialise.

:)

Re: Thorpe Park - Temporary shipping container hotel to be built

What the hell?! It looks like something you'd stay in at a festival. It's dreadful. The inside of the boxes look like a decent mini version of a Travellodge, but it's still a box. A BOX!

It's almost like a self-aware joke, like they're doing it for a laugh to play along with us. It's too bizzare to hate, I just have to laugh at it.

Re: Thorpe Park - Temporary shipping container hotel to be built

Whilst I do like the idea of snoozebox, theme parks are supposed to be an escape. I don't go to them to see piles of
shipping containers. The fact that this is at a Merlin park makes it even more ridiculous.

Re: Thorpe Park - Temporary shipping container hotel to be built

The concept of this sounds dismal.

Exactly! Whilst this kind of accommodation is perfect for festivals, a theme park should have a much better looking hotel, like the two at Alton Towers. After all, the clue is in the name! :p

Re: Thorpe Park - Temporary shipping container hotel to be built

If you look at the site they have an attached marquee which seems to serve as a bar/restaurant etc. So i doubt they would use the dome.

Re: Thorpe Park - Temporary shipping container hotel to be built

A marquee? How wonderful!

Blimey, at this rate it's going to rival Smokey's Digger Camp at Phantasialand...

Re: Thorpe Park - Temporary shipping container hotel to be built

I quite like the idea in theory! If they were really cheap to stay in, I think there could be a real market for this at Thorpe, especially with the MASSIVE push they've been doing on late-night club nights this season, as obviously these would be the ideal time to stay somewhere like this.

For the target market, I think this is potentially quite an exciting temporary addition until a permanent hotel appears :)

That a Snooze Box or Flamingoland's entrance?

Re: Thorpe Park - Temporary shipping container hotel to be built

I personally think this temporary hotel is quite a good idea from Thorpe Park. The interiors are quite impressive, the items offered with the room (such as free WiFi and a TV) are good, and hopefully entertainment will be provided in the Dome until 11pm.

As a student, I know both myself and my friends would much rather stay here than a hotel, as in theory it should be cheaper. But it probably won't be. If it really will cost in excess of £80 a night to stay in what is effectively a Travelodge room in a metal shed, it loses all appeal.

This hotel has the potential to be a real money spinner for Thorpe, as it really will appeal to the age group the park attracts. The only thing they have to get right is the price, but I doubt they'll even get the price to within £30 of reasonable.

I'd pay £26 maximum to stay in something like that, if it includes breakfast.

If the rooms have a double bed and a bunk that's 3 or 4 adults, I'd say per room should be £50 max as it is only shipping containers, that means it can be only £15 each depending upon how many people share

Re: Thorpe Park - Temporary shipping container hotel to be built

Looks wonderful, cannot wait til they open. Wonder when you can start booking?

Lol though. I love thorpe.
