Security at Theme Parks and Other Public Places

I boggles my mind to see people say they welcome armed police. This is exactly what the powers that be want! Just look at France: they have been in a "state of emergency" since the Paris bombings. Once these "security" measures come in, they are here to stay.
... Where does it end?

In my opinion if people have nothing to hide they won't be particularly bothered about the heightened security if anything it's a positive thing. I always worry about places like Towers all those people in confined spaces such as queue lines, shops, restaurants etc. would hate if something did happen.

The armed police and army on the streets as a "precaution" to "reassure the public" is in reality pretty useless and clearly just a visual aid to give people the illusion they are safer.

Religious extremism won't be beaten by putting armoured blokes with guns in public places. I'm not reassured one little bit to see armed cops at the gates of Towers and I'm puzzled why anybody would be?

Basically, if you really don't want to be blown to pieces, try to generally avoid going to crowded places very often. It's not hard.

Yeah it's a shame it's needed, by the time those coppers have got them guns into a firing position, switched the safety off, radioed in the threat and asked permission to engage, aimed and fired the terrorist has already blown them up.

At least the guy on the right is half way serious.

If it wasn't so serious it would be Benny Hill level funniness.

Oh yes...for the rest of my life I will not visit theme parks, go shopping or to the beach and city centres. In fact if I was to avoid crowded places I shall not leave the house. That is exactly what these people want you to do...be scared. My original post was just to see if Merlin had implemented anything extra to promote safety within the park. I don't expect us to ever combat terrorism but reduce the likelihood of it happening.

I avoid crowds all the time...don't go with the traffic in the rush hour, don't go out for meals at peak times, don't do theme parks when the brats are out...off peak everything!
Not out of fear of bombers, more fear of BO and bad breath in queuelines...probably a greater risk to my health.

I'm just gonna leave this here. It's amazing how much people misrepresent what Free Speech actually means.

That info graphic is very misleading, because the government CAN arrest you for what you say.

It's all very well about people not chosing to listen or ban a person from private property, but there are actually specific laws in place which can get you arrested and prosecuted under the Public Order Act. We all know about hate speech etc but these laws are used to arrest people at the likes of football matches, and even I've been in trouble for swearing at someone over a road rage incident. Yes apparently it is a real crime to swear in a public place.

See this, Public Order Act:

Intentional harassment, alarm or distress.

(1)A person is guilty of an offence if, with intent to cause a person harassment, alarm or distress, he—

(a)uses threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour, or disorderly behaviour, or

(b)displays any writing, sign or other visible representation which is threatening, abusive or insulting,

thereby causing that or another person harassment, alarm or distress.

So basically, if ANYONE is insulted by anything you say, it's a crime. The fact that everyone these days is now offended by absolutely everything is quite alarming.

That part about "displays any writing" means you better watch what you say on the internet, or you can be arrested and prosecuted. The sentance can be 6 months in jail.

Also, on my point about thought crime, see "Mental element":

6 Mental element: miscellaneous.

(1)A person is guilty of riot only if he intends to use violence or is aware that his conduct may be violent.

(2)A person is guilty of violent disorder or affray only if he intends to use or threaten violence or is aware that his conduct may be violent or threaten violence.

There's a whole bunch of stuff under section 6.

Anyway, this is all completely off topic. Just wanted to be clear that freedom of speech absolutely does not exist and "thought crime" is slowly edging its way in. :)

I don't understand why bag checks would help...

Manchester, prime example very recently. Bag checks/metal detectors etc would not have helped.

The ques to get in probably has the largest density of people in an particular area. Why take it into the park? I cant think of anywhere else on park that would have such density? Particularly before opening.
