2018: Mutiny Bay Courtyard Refurbish and New F&B Outlet

Its a wooden coaster with a wood style theme accompanied by a Smokehouse (wood) restaurant with some glass partitions on the edge of an area mostly themed with wood
...replacing...
plastic/fibreglass bright coloured bathtubs in primary colours with badly removed imperial leather branding and a duck based soundtrack accompanied by an English Tavern with a red roofed plastic marquee on the edge of an area mostly themed with wood

It may not match the theme at a story level perfectly but I think we will be fine.

It very much depends on how prominent the pagan/ritual theming is, how visible said ritual stuff is from the tavern and how well the glass dividers blend in.

Sounds like a lot of wood.

In a PIRATE themed area it's replacing a pirate show, a pirate themed stage and a Flume that spent most of its course hidden in adjacent woods. It went no where near the pathway of an African Themed area, was not visible on the African themed Rapids in said area and the view from at least half the area was that of merely a grassy area and a lake.

Yes this coaster will clearly make MB look far better (although it'll ruin KC) than the ghastly site of that Flume, that's unquestionable. But my concern is, the impact of a clashing coaster theme spreading to parts of an existing area. Thirteen looks better than Corkscrew but that doesn't make applying grey and brown spray paint to a prehistoric themed area a good thing.

We still ultimately don't know what either the theme of the coaster will be or exactly how this new courtyard will look so proof will be in the pudding.

Can't believe I'm saying this but I honestly think SW8 would be best without any theming at all.

Just the fact it is a wooden coaster with a largely wooden station allows it to fit simultaneously with Mutiny Bay and Katanga without clashing with either of them, much like the original log flume did for many years before the bathtubs.

It kind of sits in a nice neutral space on its own between the areas and the lift hill looks great from both the Rapids side and from the Mutiny Bay courtyard.

Do woodies really need much theming anyway? I mean look at Megafobia...

What I am slightly sad about though is the lack of water features or lake.

The smokehouse will definitely have a generic theme though, think edison light bulbs, wooden trestle tables etc in line with current high street interior styles.

Here is a detailed map of all the PIRATE themeing we are losing by these plans:

We are not losing a show as that was mothballed ages ago we are losing an abandoned stage and (maybe) 2 signs.

As per if the pathway between SW8 and Tavern is being taken out of the realms of Mutiny Bay, this is was the view from that path, hell its already improved by a fence:

The Flume and a Mexican Cantina

As for Katanga, I don't believe the ride is will have any effect to the area once you are past the waterfalls and all there is before that is the area entrance sign anyway.

I think there is enough tree cover along that path to separate mutany bay and SW8 if the theme totally different to each other.

Think of chessington, the themed areas are directly next to each other and it doesn't effect each themed area.

I think rejuvenating the courtyard is a good thing as long as they theme it to (or Merlin loosely theme it) to mutany bay.
I don't mind cross park branding of fb outlets as long as they put effort into making them fit in where they install them.

I saw on TS Facebook that nothing has happened with this yet. Are they waiting until January to start construction when there are no guests?

The fact that The Welcoming is still in place is very concerning to say the least.

:)

Maybe they're leaving it up incase they have to reopen it to make up for the lack of a ride, like Sanctuary / Smiler?

Something pretty catastrophic would need to happen for it to not open on time at this stage (surely? even with the 500 or so test runs needed). Like literally, it would have to be one of those, remove one nail and the whole thing collapses situations.
Perhaps it's because the equipment and capital arsenal that AT uses is all being used on finalizing SW8/Ride theming still, and they would prefer to carry out constructions of the smokehouse when they are done. I'm not sure either to be honest.

I can't imagine it would take long to get the restaurant up and running? They literally need to build a canopy and rejig the internals of the Courtyard building. It's not like they need to be adding extensions or creating whole new buildings.

Wouldn't surprise me if the plans were scrapped. Seems bizarre to open new outlets when the majority that already exist remain closed.

Remember the original plans for the smokehouse were to be built on the old Flume turntable (in a turnaround on the coaster) and they were scrapped due to cost.
Then this seems to be... floating away.

I think we'll keep the (internal) Tavern for this season, with the maze available if the ride is late or as an additional attraction if demand for the ride is so high and it gets plenty of publicity.

We'll see the smoke house next season. They normally get a couple of years to build something from the grant anyway.

I believe that the BBQ Smokehouse will open, But not in time with the start of the season and probably SW8's opening. I think we'll see the BBQ Smokehouse open April/May time.

And if I remember correctly that the RCR didn't open with Galactica and the start of the 2016 season, So it's probably a similar case here.
