We have conflicting information as mine are also from 2015 and ONS stats where by Blackpool does not even feature.

I'm sorry but Blackpool maybe a lot of things but it is not deprived, every major town/city North of the Midlands is classed as 'deprived' amongst the 'lists' because depravity to a southerner is 'they get shit cheaper than we do'

If that's the case then I was brought up in a deprived, socially inept background disconnected from the 'modern society' of those 'down South'

I'm sorry but I've lived and worked in the Midlands - Coventry, Birmingham, Leicester, Rugby, Southam, ROYAL Leamington Spa and visited enough of our Tourist Trap "DOWWWWWWN SARRRRRF" to realise that 'The North' is where it's at :D

The Midlands is thee most depressing area of the UK I've ever visited and Birmingham is a literal s**t hole - Manchester is where it's it :cool::cool:

I am from Lancashire @Spike, before I get written off as southerner who doesn't know what he is talking about. Blackpool is deprived, I don't understand what the discussion is - from the link you posted:

"Of the 3,284 most deprived neighbourhoods in England, 162 rank as highly deprived on six or all seven domains. These neighbourhoods are not evenly distributed across England: 114, or 70 per cent of them, are located within just 12 local authority districts. Birmingham contains 26 such neighbourhoods; Blackpool, 15; Leeds, 14; Bradford, 13; and Liverpool, 11. Blackpool, Barrow in Furness, and Burnley have proportionately more neighbourhoods ranked as highly deprived on six or all seven domains: 16 per cent of all 94 neighbourhoods in Blackpool met this criterion, as did 10 per cent of neighbourhoods in Barrow in Furness and 8 per cent in Burnley."
 
Yes, I'm not sure why this is being turned into a 'North versus South' discussion. Sure, there is deprivation all over the UK, but Blackpool is clasically, statistically deprived. Not that it will solve everything (even Mack aren't that good), but hopefully it'll give tourism a major bolster.

Deprived and depraved... very different things.
One could well argue that areas of Blackpool are both, but I can't imagine a government report on depravity being produced.
 
The back streets of Blackpool are one of the only places in the UK I've felt really uncomfortable and a little concerned for my safety, and I've lived near and worked in Tilbury (a place so rotten it stood in for Grimsby set in the 80's in that film Grim, because it looks like the 80's already with pretty much no 'set dressing' required, and Grimsby itself wasn't quite grim enough). The shear volume and persistence of the street beggars on the front is also staggering, the front itself though I think is really quite pleasant.
 
I'd take my chances around the back streets of Blackpool over the estates in Edmonton any day...

Anyway, what thread is this again!?

On a sadder note there are lots of queries as to why the Mouse remains closed...managers claim it is for maintainance, but there are concerns after the last incident that the ride is now uninsureabe in the current litigation climate.
The ride is "likely to remain closed for the season"...direct comment from a senior member of staff.
I only hope it returns next year.
 
Accidental seat belt release, kid nearly falls out of adults lap...allegedly.
Was on tripe advisor...29 August...1 star review.

The mouse situation is slightly concerning. It would be a bitter sweet 2018 at pleasure beach for me if the mouse doesn't re-open, especially with it being it's 60th birthday next year.

Icon may be the most exciting development at the place for nearly 25 years but it still won't be as good a coaster as wild mouse.

If its the only way for the mouse to stay open then I will reluctantly agree, but I think it could ruin the ride.

Air time is mentioned a lot when it comes to coasters but in reality modern restraints just pin you to the seat so there is no actual 'Air' time. But wildmouse has proper air time, especially on the last small dip where you can easily rise several inches into the air (before the crunching right hander smashes you into the side :eek:)

A lap bar could make the ride more painful and remove some of the fun.

But If a lap bar is the only option then so be it as I would be gutted if we lost this historic and fairly unique ride.
 
Hi everybody, New to the forum but a long time lurker and was on the old Towers Times forum 8 years ago.:)
Anyway back on topic I pray to the coaster gods that the mouse will reopen next season without any major changes.:(

Is it possible for PB to find another insurance company if the currant one no longer wants to insure the ride?
I have no idea if that is possible or not.
