Scarefest 2017

It should have AT LEAST basic wall coverings, an empty storeroom is unacceptable in my opinion!
thanks to that bit of laziness, the hooded section is ruined for everyone on this forum, because now, we know we are walking through an empty, unthemed (and probably uncleaned) staff room!

And what if one run through, forgets to give the hoods back? They can't keep operating as normal, there is no theming in that room, they have to either 100% skip the hooded section every 3rd group or, decrease the throughput by a not insignificant amount for at least, the rest of the night!

Sorry for that tangent... Just one of the many reasons why I dislike hooded mazes!

No... just no...
Would you really want them to theme a room no one will see rather than put that effort and money (which they have done) into the rest of the attraction, its one of the most ridiculous things I have ever read on this forum.

They will never operate it without hoods, you could take a full box of them away and there would still be plenty spare, they don't just have a few groups worth!!

As far as members of the forum knowing its an unthemed room... they also know the entire village inhabited by pagens was built in afew weeks in an old burger restaurant reusing some themeing from a pirate show and inhabited by actors recruited from Stoke! Going out on a limb here but, I dodnt think they actually sacrificed anyone either, sorry to ruin the magic.

Scarefest is the best time to visit Alton Towers IMO and I've managed to get two visits in so far, one on the opening day for Scarefest which was a brief visit on route back up North from London and most recently I visited on Saturday 14th. Towers Street looks absolutely fantastic with all the Halloween props, really impressed with that, I think the Alton Ancestors are great fun as well. I think the idea of having a connection to the past of Alton Towers with the 'Ancestors' actors is a good touch to the whole event.

Sub Species was much better than I remember from previous years, we had a fantastic run through there, there was 3 of us together grouped with 4 others and we ended up all split up doing some of it alone, it was one of the first times in years I have felt nervous in a scare maze.

Mineville Tours was OK, the set is good but I already feel like the story for it has gotten a bit stale and the scares weren't really there, but that said I still enjoyed it.

I didn't enjoy the Welcoming, admittedly it would have helped if we'd been given a slot to go through there in the dark but that wasn't the case sadly. The set is fantastic, but the lack of intro and lack of actors in there made for a really disappointing experience, and I don't get the blindfold idea, it just makes no sense to me really (in any scare maze!).

Terror of the Towers, the sets are good, but the storyline is stale and the whole idea of it has become a bore, please give us a new storyline and route for TOTT.

Finally, Nemesis looks absolutely fantastic with the red lighting and I'd forgotten how great it is after dark. My biggest complaint overall is that we need more scare zones.

I'd agree with this. That being said though I personally think the quaity of Freak Show is really good for a scare zone outside When I visited the actors were quite good. However I agree there should be another one. Perhaps near the Thirteen Entrance off to the left which never seems to get used?

Bad quality ik because it's from an old YT video. But, does anyone know what these doors are used for in scare fest? http://prntscr.com/gzixmy
They were used for several years in TotT when it had a story, the blood banquet and masters one - they were like giant ovens you walked in, they closed the door the floor went red and it got hot.

They were still visible for years but not used. Don't know if they are still there.

Oh right, thanks! I was thinking they could be the Sub-Species first doors but then I realised there is only two and the positioning wouldn't be correct.

Hey peeps! I'm heading to AT this weekend with my daughter and was wondering on how busy do you guys expect it to be? I know it's Scarefest but it's not really that close to Halloween so i'm not sure whether to purchase some Fastracks or not. Did anyone go last weekend? Was it busy at all then? I know some guys on here despise fastracks but if you queues are anything over 40 mins then i'll happily purchase fastrack tickets if it means i get to go on all rides!

So any info would be great. We are staying over on Sat eve so we'll have the evening on Saturday and all day Sunday. Also, the weather doesn't look great so will that put people off?

I think last weekend from what I have heard was quite busy, but that may also be down to the amount of travellers descending on the place. It does however tend to get busier the closer you get to Halloween. The first weekend of Scarefest the queues were on average about 30 mins.

Personal preference really - if you want to do all the rides and some mazes then I would probably get some passes, however, if you are not bothered about the mazes, you will find the park is a lot quieter in the night as people tend to queue for the mazes rather than the rides.

Well I have to say and I can’t believe I am that if this was my first time at Scarefest then ToTT would be my number 1 favourite maze.
Actors all over the place and really in your face.
Bit disappointed that it’s back to hands on shoulders tho.
But anyway. There we have it
ToTT is number 1 :p

Thats how they should all be. The good old days of scare attractions all being hands on shoulders.

I don't like this modern free-reign system thats going on. Groups seperating, seeing actors resetting, watching others ahead or behind you getting scared, actors getting punched and sets being messed with.

A tightly packed group all holding on to each other allows actors to jump multiple people in one go. Also used as a distraction while someone else attacks from behind.

I do like is mazes like Sub Species though, where you're getting separated multiple times until you're alone at the end. Thats nice!

Do have to agree on the hands on shoulders. It was a nice change to have hands off shoulders on it for a short time, but when you've got a maze design in one single direction to go in one narrow pathway, there's an obvious need for it to be there otherwise many miss out of key scares. Nice to hear some good reviews of TotT though!

Experienced the four mazes for the first time yesterday, and for me, The Welcoming was the best themed and for me it was actually the scariest! The others were ok, but it didn't help that ToTT and SS both took 40 minutes longer to get into than they should have done because they were both evacuated, but I felt there was a lack of actors in ToTT, AMT and SS to be honest.

I've just purchased the 3 scare maze bundle for next weekend

I'm going to use my phone as e-tickets but have only been sent one barcode is this right or should it be 3?
