A member on TowersTimes has noticed that Elliott Crawford, the YouTuber in the promo videos, posted late last night something about "the Secret Weapon programme is about to get even weirder" which possibly hints at some sort of reveal soon.

EDIT: So 8pm's come and gone... looks like an agonising wait til January.

Our next bet is Dia De Las Muertas on the 2nd November, but that's clutching at straws.

There's some stuff on Facebook MAP group to the effect that the ride name won't be announced until December/January time and at the moment promotions are in some weirdly named phase, something like viral phase. Trains are supposed to arrive in the next couple weeks and things are on schedule for the ride to open March 2018.

Oh and SW9 plans are already in the planning stage with whatever it is likely to be on the air carpark site.

This is part of the post from the MAP group
1. The locations for SW8 that were considered were near the Nemesis coaster and the car park behind Glaticica. But the flume area was chosen to be a better location, and due to the flume reaching the end of it's life span.

2. The Gravity Group were one of the companies considered by Alton Towers to built the SW8.

3. On orignal plans of SW8 the larger area that was labelled as theming was going to be a themed restaurant but it didn't make the final plans.

4. The height restriction for SW8 is confirmed as 1.2 meters. But this is subject to change.

5. SW8 is on track to open for the March 2018 deadline.

6. SW8 trains are due to arrive at the park in the next few weeks.

7. SW8 is currently in pregual stage of advertising. This ends in December. Shortly after this the name for the ride will be released.

8. The welcoming maze sound track has parts of the rides actual sound track.

9. Alton Towers have a time lapse camera taking a image every 15 minutes of the construction site. Maybe we will see a video of the time lapse before the ride opens?

10. The SW9 brief has already been submitted! What could it be?

I never understood this frenzy around claims that we would get some "reveal" on Halloween. It's going on here, CF and TT. Am I the only one that thought the "logic" around a reveal on Halloween was over exited enthusiasts putting 2 and 2 together and getting 146 and a half?

Er and where does this information actually come from? Because the MAP Facebook group is perhaps one of the worst groups on the internet I wouldn't exactly trust them.

What confuses me is why didn't they do the prequel stage at the start of the season and announce the ride in late summer/early autumn like most other parks do. It would get their new ride a lot more media exposure and they could do live updates from the construction site.

Well... you say that...Somehow the ride was mentioned on Good Morning Britain today at about 7:15. Didn't get to hear the full segment but seems weird it has been covered when there is very little information. Unless something new was announced, which I doubt.

Secrecy is more marketable.

Let's compare SW8 to Icon. Icon is undeniably the more interesting coaster. It's a Mack Mega, double launch, inverting air time machine. But besides the initial announcement the hype has died off. There's nothing new to learn about the ride, we just have to wait for it to open.

SW8 however is interesting. There's plenty of room for speculation. But more importantly when they do make these announcements next year people will be planning their Holidays, perfect time for Alton's new ride to hit the headlines.

Case in point people flooded to Alton to uncover the mystery of Thirteen. Including me on opening weekend, not something I've ever felt the need to do before or since. If only Thirteen had been a Mack Mega :p

I can criticize Merlin for many things but marketing isn't one of them!
