Well, maybe apart from Th13teen's mis-marketing... ;)
Did they? As I stated above the marketing for Thirteen worked. They aimed above their target market but if anything that just encouraged people to be interested who might have otherwise not bothered.

I'll concede that most of the PR stunts were ridiculous. Lets not have a repeat of the age restrictions again. But they created buzz and that's what mattered.

What I meant was that the park could do what parks across the world do in that they announce the ride in Summer/Autumn and do live construction updates throughout the off-season. My Dad suggested that they should do a live feed from the construction site. I don't know, I just really hate Merlin's method of revealing rides. Especially since we know the basic premise of the ride and it's just waiting for them to confirm it. Although I suppose January isn't the latest that a new ride has been unveiled *cough* BGW announcing Tempesto in March *cough*.

There has been a segment on sw8 on itv central new this evening! I believe it's on itv +1 again at 7pm but you may have trouble if you don't get the central news. I will try and find a link when it appears online! :)

Interesting. "The SW8 will be tested 500 times with the ride cars containing water-filled dummies, and then extensively re-tested using real people."

A new ride is being installed at Alton Towers in Staffordshire.

ITV has been given exclusive access to the first rollercoaster attraction to be installed at the theme park since the Smiler in 2013.

The new ride, known only as SW8 - Secret Weapon 8 - is a wooden rollercoaster, marking a step away from more commonly seen steel structures.

Work began on the attraction two years ago on the site of the old Flume ride in the centre of the park. It took more than 100 construction workers to pour the concrete for the foundations after 50,000 tonnes of earth was moved away.

The theme of the attraction remains secret but the creator says it won't be just a rollercoaster made out of wood.

The wooden rollercoaster itself is just one small part of the experience.

''Once you're in there and going through the theatrical experience and you're hearing the story, you'll completely forget about that and this is one of the most compelling themed attractions we've built in a very long time.''

– BRADLEY WYNNE - CREATIVE DIRECTOR

The SW8 will be tested 500 times with the ride cars containing water-filled dummies, and then extensively re-tested using real people.

It will debut in March 2018 when Alton Towers re-opens after a winter break.

Also when Bradley talks about theming being the best in a long while, Best themed attraction for what Merlin or Towers? And if it's Merlin I'll wonder how they'll top Derren Brown's Ghost Train...

No rest for Francis. He's already having to make enough videos to appease the cretins without ITV News getting in on it.

Can't imagine it'll be too long before The Express go down the 'Destroying Princess Di's legacy' route after they see this.

I'm presuming the answer will probably be no, but do you guys think that Merlin will put actors in the queue for this? I hope not, because rides containing actors, like DBGT and Sub Terra for example, are the only thing I won't go on in a theme park.

It won't be difficult to top Derren Brown's two lights on a broomstick theming.

Hopefully this wasn’t the joke, but you do know Princess Diana’s and the Prince's rode Loggers Leap at Thorpe Park.
In the video it shows them on the flume so obviously done both

Not sure if this has been mentioned yet but anyone else curious as to why in the second teaser video the air poster has the runes under it spelling out "Entrance"?

It has long been rumoured that there will be a new entrance to the park, and that it may be near AIR/Galactica. Could be a hint that this may happen soon. SW9 is rumoured to be on Air car park, which could coincide with the new entrance to the park being built there.

Some nice footage of the ride. It's still disappointing how short the ride looks, but it looks like it will be great fun.

The Smiler was obviously going to be mentioned and will be mentioned constantly with each article/news piece relating to Wicker Man. Did anyone really believe the media would brush it under the carpet with SW8?

Bardley Wynne's comments sound promising, although it's all marketing spiel until we see the actual ride/experience open in 2018 and see whether it really is a uniquely themed theatrical experience.
