Blackpool Pleasure Beach: Icon - 2018 Mack Double Launch Coaster

Is the Skycreamer open over winter on the South pier?
You'd need a strong grip on the camera, and pressing the button at 5Gs during the 2 seconds it takes to go up might be tricky... but you with a little luck...

Nah, far simpler to use a 4K camera strapped to your wrist (like a Nintendo controller) running in video mode to get a single frame, that's what I did to get decent shots of Derren Brown's construction site, shame none of them ever saw the light of day after the dressing down I got on another site for daring to post one.

I’ve reserved my opinion on the colour scheme based on pictures etc but after getting close to the track fir the first time, it’s definitely not the polished silver colour that was mentioned. More a metallic grey.

It still looks good but when I heard polished silver I sort of expected something proper spesh. Rather than just grey.

It’s also interesting to see that the track has quite a few different builds rather than just the standard triangulated layout. There’s obviously that standard version, the flatter launched sections, the double spines sections (which I’m guessing might be for the first rises after the launches) and I also notice that the void of some of the triangular sections actually have solid pieces in. No doubt for stability but I’ve not seen this before in the likes of Blue Fire. Good to see Mack are always improving what is already a great product. I think BPB have got themselves a very well made ride here which could ride even smoother than the current Megas with these apparent design improvements.

Mack track has always had some of the triangle sections filled. Helix & Blue fire both have them.

No idea, noticed PBE on Facebook showing a photo of more track delivery this morning.

The last week of the season they were starting to tarmac and then concrete the main ride area in sections so they could still be doing that.

Pleasure Beach themselves have usually published photos themselves at key construction points so you'd imagine they'd post photos and video when track starts to be installed. Possibly with a media event to hype it up.

I think it would have been good if they had installed a live webcam showing the main ride area, so anyone could just view the progress as it happened. Shame they didn't do that.

They're probably too busy this week bowing to BBC pressure to open up sections of the park for filming to post updates, they usually have a few segments of Strictly contestants enjoying themselves on rides during the show Saturday so if you're that obsessed you might see a small update in the background or something.

Bugger all Dippy.
Went yesterday morning in the rain.
Three yellow jackets just inland of the Dippers first drop, messing with the (alleged) gas pipe inlet.
No cranes, but it looked like there was more track on the north car park.
Security were walking round the perimiter, not seen that in years.
Will have to be quick with my ladders when it all kicks off then.

They'll almost certainly be filming it for a time lapse video (like towers are with SW8), probably don't want a live camera incase something goes wrong (like an accident) and you have people plastering the footage all over the internet.

So who's buying a boarding card ?

In their t&c's they have revealed that the minimum height to ride is 130cm

It's a nice idea but as I'm getting a season pass for 2018 it's a no for me.

Also at the price their charging for this makes me think they'll put the gate price up next season.

Is it just me who thinks the VIP pass is good value for money? If it wasn't such a trek to Blackpool I would be buying one haha :)
You get entry to park between 9-10am before park opens, presumably this means you don’t get a wristband for the rest of the day on the parks other rides?

Correct. The boarding card only gives you a ride on Icon and entry to the park. So essentially, it's a ticket to ride Icon and a Pleasure Beach Pass. It's not a wristband, so wouldn't give you access to ride any other ride.

If you didn't buy a pass, would you still be able to ride Icon, or is it pass-only?
As both pass types don't include admission, the VIP one sounds like better value, even though it's more expensive.
